And to add some Kaidan-related stuff. Here's a question that bothered me few days ago. How do you think, when Kaidan and Shep marry, which one is supposed to change a surname (if anyone)? Major Shepard? Commander Alenko?.. Especially interesting to hear from BroSheps, really. 8P

Not 100% sure how it works over there in MEU (yeah, they don't put such stuff in codex), but in my country both can pick either of surnames, if they wish, or leave it as was. And in any moment you can change it, if you wish(takes some paperwork, though).

that's one thing that slightly annoyed me during canon play-throughs. Shepard was always Shepard, not 'john' every other character was referenced in first name. Except Shepard. I believe most people that played canon shep (and it's the VAST Majority) kept Jane/John, but it's never touched. The closest you get is the brandy drink with chakwas and even she won't say it! ...

When the L/I are declaring their love of shepard and they don't call him/her by their first name, it sounds, akward almost.

I remember when my husband and I finally got married after around 5 or 6 years I was expecting some sort of formal form to change my name but nothing formal anywhere. You just hold up the marriage certificate to the bank, to other places, and say you're changing your name. Felt so unofficial it was strange. That was in the UK, for reference.

While I wouldn't see Shepard and Kaidan getting married as a riding into the sunset thing, I could roll with it if they decided to make their relationship public and needed to formalize it so that they could continue to be together somehow in a legitimate way, what with regs and all that. Assuming they both remain in the Alliance, of course.

It did not stop spacer shepards parents from getting together so why should it stp Kaidan and shepard?

That's funny, the only part where I missed the first name was on the memorial plaque.
Other than that, I got used to everybody including LI calling Shepard by his/her last name. Maybe from ME1 when you had the difference when Kaidan calls you Shepard or Commander depending on the relationship.

Also, I thought the opening sequence from ME2 was really nice, when Kaidan says he's not leaving, he says "Shepard", and when told/ordered to leave, he says "Aye, aye, Commander.", very clever piece of dialogue.

EDIT: in the same way, as i said before, I enjoy Shepard calling Kaidan "major", it's some kind of game between them, plus I guess that as military, it would make sense using only last names, at least it's commonly pictured as such.

I thought it was rubbish too, but (and I forget her name now that brough this POV up) Kadian still 's Shepard even after the rejection(or at least any sane person would still.), so his reaction is appropriate.

Mmmh... I don't know about that... but then I don't picture Shepard and Alenko getting married at all  i'm too short-sighted. Here the woman traditionally takes the husband's name, but can choose otherwise.

When I said "I don't know about that", I wasn't stating that your "Commander Shepard-Alenko" suggestion was a bad one, I was actually answering directly to Nrieh, what I meant was "I don't know what to make of that, I don't know what to answer to that specific question", that's all! Actually, I think "Commander Shepard-Alenko" is nice, plus it sounds nice, probably better than "Commander Alenko-Shepard" in any case... 

That's it, my quest for understanding and clarification has reached an end, I can die happily now.

My Shepards in Duet Effect don't know their birth names, they're Earthborn.

The names they use now are pseydonyns given to them by the Military when they enlisted. I will reveal their real names eventually, but it'll be so close to the end of the ME series that it doesn't even matter to them anymore.

I think Kai Leng was directing the taunt at Shepard, and Kaidan's biggest berserk button is hurting his girlfriend, physically or otherwise. He already has a reason for being pissed at Leng for attacking Shepard on the Citadel, and now he's taunting her too. Yeah. Me thinks Kaidan is a bit pissed.

I got those too, I'd imagine Kaidan saying that anyway, romantically involved or not, cause he'd just loath unworthy opponents, being virtuous and all. +1 if they're stupid space ninjas.

EDIT > now, would he say that nevertheless if he's your LI and if you "cheated" on him with Thane in ME2 ??

  I love it, actually.  I kept my name when we got married.  And I call my husband by his last name most of the time.  It fits perfectly into my world view. 

Not surprisingly, my Shepard would not take Kaidan's name, nor would she hyphenate.  She is perfectly happy being Commander Shepard.

Shepard's parents didn't work together. That's the important part.

Is that true?  I don't remember learning very much about Shep's dad, just Hannah.

  I haven't heard that one before.  I like it a lot though.  I would guess Kaidan is showing support for Shep, not necessarily out of any connection to Thane (although I love Graceyn's story in which that connection is fleshed out) and also maybe trying to draw Lt. Bastard Kai Leng's attention to him allowing Shepard to pull up her emotional barriers.  My Shep would've felt like that was a punch in the gut.  She was good friends with Thane.

Where did you get this from? If I remember thing when HTL gathered faces and names for MIA Sheps - it did not seem to me that Jane\\John were too popular. I belive many keep default Sheploo face - true, but even my friend who does not care for RP much changed his name. By the way, I always thought that phonetically any two\\three-syllable name fits "Shepard" much better.

As for Kaidan calling Shepard "Shepard" - he did not have much time for practice, and though he's not an Lt. long ago - old habbits are hard to overcome. Personally I think that he eventually will switch to calling her by the name. When he'll understand how far things have come for them. 

But you know, my mother called father by surname very often(and still does). Guess, that's because they met each other at university, and that's how she used to call him when it all began. I never did so, I call my husband by the name or by private nickname. And I changed my name for his, by the way.

That dialogue was there originally, but I didn't hear it until my second playthrough. After Kai Leng says that, if you don't land an attack on him then Kaidan will respond. Otherwise if you hit him then it might skip it.

i got that with my maleshepard who romanced kaidan, i usually play on casual mode so the battle would be quite fast, so i played on normal so the battlewas really long, i heard kaidan get really angry and it first time i heard it, hehe i was happy

I like your story, yeah, that's how i see it too. I took my husband's name, out of marital pride I guess. Sometimes it's a pain cause nobody seems to know how to pronounce it

I'm pretty sure I had it on my first. Yeah, if you're too rushy, you probably skip it.
Like on the poker dialogue, I discovered an extra Shep final line sthing like "Just a few extra of them to take care of." (reapers to take down)
