Can we please knock it off with the same-sex romance junk? Have as much of a problem with it as you feel is necessary; BioWare obviously disagreed. It's not a debate that will have any impact beyond people getting upset.
Huh ?

I must say that's one thing I totally love in Kaidan ME3 looks...I can't imagine Kaidan without it now !
I think I prefered young Alenko who knew how to shave with that lovely shadow under his cheeks.

That's it, I'm thirsty.
Then have a drink with Kaidan !

Yikes, devSin. Were people getting so riled up about it that it upset you that much? Didn't really see any hating going on but I've been skimming mostly so maybe I missed it...
I think it's an ok thing to discuss. I mean, he was presented as a love interest for femshep in the first 2 games and only a love interest for broshep in the last game so I think it's natural that people want to discuss how this fits in to the overall narrative.

You can "turn" Kaidan renegade.
He can't help but love you anyway.

I'm not being upset because he's gay, I'm annoyed because he wasn't in ME1 (from my point of view at least).

It's a bit how you percieve it I suppose. For me, I suspected he was bi at least in ME1, and somewhat upset when I foundout my gaydar had been deceived. Facutaly however, I don't remember Kaidan ever declaring his sexuality in ME1 or ME2. The reason why I love that they choose Kaidan for this role (beyond the glaring realization that he's the only viable character after all the other male figures are considered..) is because he's not some last-minuite job like Cortez, or Traynor are. He's an established character who has been with Shepard from the begining, so there's a connection there (fan-made or not) already. I don't have to start trying to 'get to know' Cortez, or Trayner, I already know Kaidan.. I already know that I had dared to hope, and finnaly was given an opportunity to act on it. The reality is, that people who romance him as a femshep only meet this realization on the forums, I can't entirely feel too upset for them, I could possibly feel a little for players who liked Kaidan as a 'friend' and suddenly that friend is a bit too friendly, but you know what-- that happens in real life. If you have problems with the akwardness of S/S relationships, the reality is that it's not going to get much easier for you as it becomes more socially acceptable.TheMiffins wrote...

Actually, though I tend to consider them myself as s/s, Liara in ME1 was not considered as a lesbian romance but as a xenophile one. Same for Samara/Morinth. But I agree with you on that point.
Kelly and Diana ? Come on, there are not real romance. And I didn't even know FemShep could hit on Diana. I never romanced Kelly myself but all the FemShep I know who did - did it for Kelly to manage their fish tank (I prefered to check on them myself or let them die, no way I'd hit on Kelly - not after hearing Mordin's suspicions anyway)
The only real female s/s romance is Traynor. She's the only human lesbian character.
I am happy for gay BroShep, but I was rather surprised when I discovered Kaidan could be romanced by BroShep... I was a little disapointed... because AGAIN a male character changes his sexuality based on the gender of the player (like Anders in DA2 which annoyed me a lot).
Kaidan appears as straight in ME1 : his story with Rhanna in BaAT, his comments on Chora's Den, the compliments to FemShep... In his apology for Horizon, he says that he was seeing a doctor.... (hmm okay, the gender of the doctor is not given in english, but I think in french it was - though it could be an interpretation from the (crappy) french dub team).
And then, bam ! ME3, he turns out to be bi (for MShep - he is straight for FemShep).
If at least, it had been implied in ME1 that he was, I would have no problem with it. And I don't know... I felt like "yeah, he's sensitive, posed, he does have a nice firm ass, let's make him gay"... just too cliché <_<
So I prefer to see him as not gay : just in love with Shep, whatever his gender. A bit like Garrus when he says : "I'm not into humans. Just you."
I feel like it's more like his character (and I like to imagine BroShep going jealous when Kaidan peers at Miranda's ass or Jack's breast)
In reguards of the troll, it's not even a rumor... just a post here on the Kaidan thread... IT'S A TRAP.
Edit : And then, why can't Ash turn bi as well ? My characters are usually always straight but maybe I would have tried a s/s romance with Ash if she was.
I don't think they throw it in there as a bone to the LGBT community. During the whole dialogue on the citadel when you first initiate the romance, I feel Kaidan coming to Shepard as something that he didn't initially have but that has grown over the past years they've known each other. Kaidan is probably more into girls, but at the end of the world he wanted something with someone he knows and cares for - Shepard.
I agree..The straight-by-default assertion always bothers me.
Kaidan's sexuality didn't change. Because you perceived it one way does not mean that he was ever identified as exclusively heterosexual (and some of the instances you bring up don't ever even happen in a universe where Shepard is male).
To me, saying you're disappointed is saying that somehow the character has been diminished by finally being able to express how he feels about male Shepard. And that does upset me.

With no disrespect ment, what I took form his L/I was I was helping a friend overcome the death of his husband and then proceeding to get crunked at the club and getting into his pants. I found it on the verge of being predatory and stereotypical. Gay men dancing at a night club...I'm shocked Shepard and Cortez had their shirts on still.Ranger Jack Walker wrote...

Agreed.. I think they could have eased into that *much* more subtly and in a less 'I'm gay look at me' sort of way. That goes back into my discussion in another thread about how both of these L/I's seem forced or akward, although Kaidan is better obviously since there's *some* implied background if you want to believe it... That reminds me of an article I loved on this particular topic..lol?
I had no idea Cortez was gay until the first talk with him and I asked about family and he just blurts out "I had a husband"..
If that wasn't sudden, I don't know what the term means anymore. It certainly wasn't subtle

Lol. Well that one can go wither way. I know plenty of straight guys who don't get women.

I think he's saying that Cortez had flashing lights and sirens. You know right away that he's the gay guy, and there's no way you could end up having a spontaneous romantic moment with him unless you choose it (because you'll see it coming).blmlozz wrote...

Kaidan, meanwhile, treats you like a person. The romance is handled no different than were it opposite-sex (it's not any more "forced" than it is when he asks female Shepard if there's more to their feelings than just friendship and respect). That said, I wouldn't have been opposed to being able to drop mad hints before the date. He already accuses you of flirting with him in the hospital; it might have been nice to throw an actual flirt or two his way. ;-)

I... edited it to sound less harsh, but yes, this is exactly what I was getting at. Kaidan didn't have to remind me every 3 seconds that he was gay, he just happened to be gay, He was still Kaidan to me, just finnally the Kaidan I always wanted. The problem with Cortez is his time was too short to establish any sort of relationship, so they had to go loud and short. The outcome of this is that he constantly reminds you that he likes men and that 'it's hard to say no to you shepard' <_<I think he's saying that Cortez had flashing lights and sirens. You know right away that he's the gay guy, and there's no way you could end up having a spontaneous romantic moment with him unless you choose it (because you'll see it coming).
