New chapter is up: If It Meant Living-63: The One That Got Away / Alt. DA Link.

The subject-matter is Eden Prime, but the theme is the past, the ME1 team, the Protheans, the beacon.  But most of all it's a tribute to Ashley.  I've always liked her, and Virmire sucks every damn time.  :: gives the evil eye to Bioware ::  I hope it's poignant and touching - I'm fairly certain I made my husband cry a little, so I think it is.

By the way, is anyone else finding FF.net borked again?  It took forever for the chapter to show up, and email notifications still haven't gone out.

Topic du jour:  I have no problem with imagining Kaidan being bi, even in ME1.  He was just more hesitant to admit his feelings to himShep because he wasn't sure if Shepard was...or other reasons.  It's cool.  Besides, it means that I got to watch my husband romance Kaidan on an ME3 playthrough (via Genesis, he couldn't manage to kill Ash in ME1) and it was...hot.

Other topic du jour:  Kaidan using his biotics.  Stickyfingersmcgee did another gorgeous piece, and just look at those glowing eyes!

...You do realize that all (\\most of) your problems were caused by stupid ME3 game mechanics, lazy coding and\\or writing, and not even close any of mentioned have anything to do with Kaidan's personality and\\or cahracter, right?..

(damnt, I can't google that picture, with Kaidan and line "in case of emergency... use your imagination.")

KaidAn is a character in a video game. This means he can never react like a real person would and is limited to what his writers and animators were allowed to do with him.

All characters have these issues. It's nothing that is exclusive to Kaidan.

They leave a lot open to your imagination. There is one dialogue that hints that they've been together since the Citadel date. It's very little, but it's there to show he's not supposed to be desinterested. It's not part of his character.

You can't do anything against dialogue that hasn't been written for him. It'll always be Liara and Garrus who will talk to you during the emotionally charged scenes. Sometimes Tali, Ashley, Cortez and Traynor suffer from this, too.

You can get Kaidan to help you on Ranoch (I think) under very specific conditions. And often other squadmates take priority in dialogue. (Mostly Garrus.)

I believe their fans are complaining that most of their dialogue is not unique for the romance but repurposed friendship dialogue. Garrus and Tali fans are a bit miffed at the underwhelming romance scene. Tali fans are a bit miffed because of her lack of screentime since you recruit her later in the game. Ashley fans are disappointed because of a perceived lack of dialogue compared to Kaidan and issues with her personality and heavily sexualized character model.

Kaidan is not exactly one of the fan favorites, so assume Bioware didn't extactly trip over themselves to include more content.

If you need a LI with more screentime go for Liara or Garrus. I can't promise that you'll be entirely satisfied, but at least you'll have more to talk.

It's just a matter of what you can expect from a game.

My shep is going round helping everyone else, telling them to grab what happiness they can when they can and what does she get from HER man? Nada! It makes me feel like Kaiden is a real loser..

Thane dies, where was Kaiden, not comforting shep thats for sure.

Kai Leng nearly kills shep and takes off with the catalyst stuff, shep is horrified, traumatised by seeing Liaras homeworld and people get totally destroyed and she feels like a FAILURE and who is there to comfort and hold Shep? Who tells her she is fantastic and doing brilliant and gives her a warm and loving hug? NOT KAIDEN!!!

I felt for sure he would have some comfort for her so I ran her down to him in engineering and he was there having a great chat with the engineers and feeling sorry for Liara!!!! What about HIS woman??? OMG I AM TOTALLY SAYING DUMP THIS LOSER NOW!!

So I pop in to see good old Garrus and he gives her a pep talk and a bit of a shoulder to cry on.

Would I pay Biware for better romance dlc, hell yeah! Cause its probably the only way they will do a satisfying realistic job on a game relationship. Game immersion has gone for me cause Im so upset by how dark, depressing and futile this whole game is and the lack of love and support from sheps LI is the last nail in the coffin.

How hard would it have been to dump those lousy and irrelevant dream sequences and put in some proper effort on the relationship for shep. Im sure throughout history every great leader had much better love and support from their husbands, wives and other halves.

Not wishing to upset any hardcore Kaiden fans, but really would you let yourself be treated like that by your man? I sure as hell wouldnt.

My Shepard's always been more playful than the Major. But I feel like they're a perfect fit. They need each other. They balance each other. I wish we had snarky Shep options like in DA2.

Fabulous work once again - most of the fics I have read have been set in ME2+ timeframe, so it's refreshing to get some ME1 flashbacks and Ashley in particular. I've not managed to get her past Virmire yet, but it's never an easy mission to get through. Looking forward to your perspective on Javik!

If possible, could you resize one for me to 1600x1050? That is doubly awesome wallpaper for me, because not only is that a hawt picture of Kaidan...but you used lyrics from Breaking Benjamin. (No...I'm not a BB fan at all...why, no, that is most certainly NOT a BB logo tattooed on my inner left wrist...you must be seeing things. )  And now, everytime that song starts up on my mp3 player, I will realize how perfect it is for those two...especially that line "You left a hole where my heart should be".

But you're right, its is so very disappointing. Especially the lack of exclusive contents for ME1 faithful femSheps, the non-existence of a proper reunion scene (I wouldn't call the Citadel date that), the lack of specific interactivity.
Problem is, if they do it for Kaidan, they should do it for all LI, and just look at what happened to ME2 LI...

On the content matter, I don't really expect them to be too cuddly, cause they're military and all, but yes, it would be nice to have something "special" going on with your LI, there isn't enough difference between romanced and unromanced version of a character.

I totally agree. I also think Bioware are fully capable of doing this, I am still a fan depsite various complaints I have because lets face it, they do a  heck of a better job than most other game devs out there. Just want them to raise the bar a little. Kaiden is so not an **** but thats the way he behaved in this game imo.

Well, there's your problem right there. You're with the wrong guy.

In all seriousness though, the points you brought up have been talked about a lot. It's not just Kaidan though. Which is why people want the DLC. Things just weren't handled right. LI should have had priority in several situations but was denied (Pulling Shep up, consoling). It was just very out of character. Overall though I felt Kaidan was handled pretty well. Just felt like some things were left out. So I put them back in.

I was pretty miffed at him about the whole Thessia thing though

This is not different from any other LI, as others have mentioned.  While I agree it would have been nice to have more dialogue with him after the date, are you really *mad* at the character for behaving like all the other squadmates?  He actually gets more dialogue onboard the Normandy than Ashley does! 

Yeah, you get one "pep talk" with Garrus, but you get a conversation with Kaidan after Jacob's mission...does that mean that Garrus doesn't care as much about Cerebus, because he doesn't talk about his feelings about the scientists?  They just have conversations about different things at different times.

The Thane thing is pretty sad, but that's the entire crew, and the entire *galaxy*...nobody cares about Thane after he dies.  Nobody, and Shepard isn't even allowed to grieve if she was in a romance with him.  Does that make a Shepard who romanced Thane a giant jerk, because she didn't get better dialogue?

I don't know, this looks like you just don't like him.  Maybe Garrus would be a better match for your Shepard, you don't seem to be holding Garrus to unrealistic standards for a character in ME3...

Ashley just doesn't have much dialog on the Normandy. Each squad mate had a line count budget. Though Ashley has the same budget as Kaidan, the writer for Ashley decided to use the budget more on the Citadel than the Normandy, so she doesn't have as much to say between missions, but she has more to say during her Citadel moments.

Don´t really like the way the majority of dialog was handled in ME3. I´m not a big fan of autodialog, where I can start talking and then just walk away in the middle of a sentence. Doesn´t feel very serious...
