I know it's not quite proper place to ask, but here are so many nice and helpful people <-)
I just saw that DA2 is on -50% sale on origin. I'm still dealing with DA:O, and I even like it, but only "technically", it never became that personal to me as any part of ME. And I wish ME1 was that long...I'm at about 45hours now, and my longest ME1 was slightly less then 30h. But that's probably more because of mechanics and design, not because of longer and richer plot... And don't even make me compare Kaidan and Alistair. I can only say that one of them feels like real, living adult man to me and another - like cartoonish archetype character.

Anyway, how do you think, should I get DA2 or not? And is "awakening" DLC needed before DA2? I would not even consider buying it if not for nice sale price.

Taken on it's own merits, I really enjoyed DA II. While not as "epic" as DA:O (you're basically in town of Kirkwall and the outlying areas for the entire game) I found the story to be quite intriguing. My only quibbles with the game was that I wish Anders wasn't as militant in his 'free the mages" mode and that Knight-Captain Cullen was romanceable. (the things my male Hawke would have done to him would have made him forget all about his Chantry vows...) Image IPB

Sorry, I'll stop drooling now.

If you do decide to pick it up, make sure one of your playthroughs is a male Hawke with witty/sarcastic responses (the purple-coded ones) - the delivery was hilarious! The 2 DLC's for the game ("Legacy" and "Mark of the Assassin") were quite good as well.

Besides, for 50% off you really can't go wrong.

As for "Awakening", some of the events in that game influence a few of the quests you get in DA II. I personally would play everything offered for DA:O and Awakening DLC-wise before starting DA II but I'm a completionist (which is a nice way of saying I'm obsessive-compulsive) Image IPB

I loved this. He's so funny isn't he? Kinda ruined me for the other two options. They just seem so flat. I hope they do the same with DA3.

I really wish Shepard could have gone that route.

Absolutely! I haven't gone 100% witty yet because some quests won't complete satisfactorily unless you give a diplomatic response.

But telling Knight-Commander Meredith that "her outfit was a wise choice" and that it was "too stylish to be an accident" had me laughing out loud. Image IPB

I really liked DAII actually. Although most of the complaints people made about it were totally justified. I'll just come right out with that. Regardless, I thought it was pretty awesome. I also really liked Awakening too (Nathaniel Howe...) so that's worth picking up. Also it has some implications for DAII.

Aw..look! He does not want me to play DA.... Sorry, Alenko, I promised myself I won't touch ME untill I'm done with DA:O. And I'm in the middle of some....renovation in our appartament, which makes things even worse. Where is a keeper when you need one, huh?..

I really like DA2 as well, I thought the story was more interesting, and less manichean than DA:O.  Sure DA:O was epic, but the storyline was really common.... DA2 had more scenaristic dephts in my point of view.

I am curious about what you said about tAwakening though.... I was never able to load my Awakening save in DA
.... I don't remember the exact phrasing of the error message, but I think it was something like the Archdemon wasn't dead in my playthrough so I couldn't choose this save for DA2. I could only load a save from DA:O (without Awakening) :?

Could you guys do a sanity check for me? I'm doing my first full game since the EC and getting autodialogue instead of a full convo the first time on the Normandy after the coup. What gives?

I'm doing my first full game since the EC and getting autodialogue instead of a full convo the first time on the Normandy after the coup.

Full dialogues are hard to miss, there are 2 of them on Normandy (excluding "quick drink"). Family talk (about dad) and Cerberus talk. Rest of talks were click-me. After coup in docking bay there is a recruiting convo, but it's not Normandy yet.

That's what I mean. I normally get the first convo about his family immediately after returning to the Normandy with him. His model was still posed leaning against the glass, but I got ddialogue about how nasty Udina was instead.

That's odd. Did you talk to anyone else first like Dr. Chakwas? Or have you fulfilled any sidequests after returning to the Normandy, but before talking to Kaidan? Try talking to Kaidan first before anything else.

Edit: Oooh, I never got that nasty Udina dialogue coming from him. What does he say exactly if I may ask?

"Family talk" is triggered if you asked him about family while in hospital, afair. Either you did not, or you got a glitch.

Ah, that may be it. I didn't exhaust all dialogue in the hospital.

That's interesting.  The only thing I can think of was that maybe you weren't loading a completed save? The archdemon (as far as I know) is always dead at the end of the game.  What platform are you playing on?

DAII has a few carry overs from Awakening (Nathaniel Howe 2.0, hawt stuff, for instance) but mostly I just like it because it finishes off the Warden's story and, like Mage, I'm kind of OCD about completing everything.  It provides more insight into the whole Anders/Justice relationship and a few Darkspawn/Blight related issues.

Well it was a completed save since my Warden in Awakening was an imported Queen of Alist... huh, I meant Ferelden :D I had finished Awakening too, but none of the Awakening would work in DA2.

It didn't bothered me much since Awakening didn't seem to impact much on the DA2 storyline. Maybe I missed some things but it didn't feel like it was something big... I mean, not like if Kasumi or LotSB content had not been taken in consideration in my ME3 playthrough. That would have really felt weird.

But with DA3 I'm wondering if I should worry about that

Maybe I should try to replay DA:O/Awakening and replay DA2 with those new saves... but I must admit I didn't liked Awakening at all (I liked the characters but the story... it just seemed like it had nothing in common with DA:O... like the Warden in Awakening was another Warden in an alternate universe). Having to replay Awakening again just for having a neat save to load in DA3 would be... meh.

And I play on PC.

Finally caught up with Four Years Later and I think it's put me in the mind set to finally finish off my Mshep playthrough.  Though the comments of some of the writers/devs at Comic-con nearly made me want to give up on ME/BW for good (<_<), it also made me realize how important fans like alishatorn and all of the other brilliant writers and artists (and endless speculators, I love you) are for carrying on the story and the universe long after the franchise has ended.  You guys are great!

Well, if you played other DAO DLC, I know you have to do it in a very specific order for it all to be imported into DA2.  Personally I thought that was a really crappy problem with importing but whatever.  Doesn't look like it will ever be changed or fixed.  You definitely have to play Awakening immediately after DAO (and have Nathaniel in your final party or else DA2 will think he's dead) and then the Golem one and then Witch Hunt I think.  Overall, DA's import problems are terrible.  So many bugs no matter which save you import from.

Awakening was notorious for the bugs that were never fixed, Yeah, it was a pain in the glutes to wallow through it all but knowing you got a 'complete' save by playing that and all the DLC's made it somewhat tolerable.

And before I get spanked (oooooh, baby!!) for not keeping this post on-target, some hunky biotic goodness cometh:

You can find some, or at least one, arguably ridiculous comment here that they probably should just not have said out loud regarding the breath scene.  Sure. Everyone was thinking it, but I think the smartest thing would have been to just stfu about it.

Lols..
Ending sucks for you?
OK fine, here's some more filler
Still sucks?
Headcannon

Oh wait, since your headcannon isn't right, let us fix it for you and &**& everything up

I give up. You've won Bioware. I don't even want to play MP, not that I really care, because your network intereface and the way it drops missed and truncated packets is horrific (ie disconnects from EA servers and Host servers OFTEN)

Guys, remember that Bioware ALSO said that they intended the scene with the LI at the memorial to suggest that there will be a reunion with the LI in the future. It's all speculation - they aren't trying to drive anyone in any particular direction.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
