I know it's not quite proper place to ask, but here are so many nice and helpful people <-)
I just saw that DA2 is on -50% sale on origin. I'm still dealing with DA:O, and I even like it, but only "technically", it never became that personal to me as any part of ME. And I wish ME1 was that long...I'm at about 45hours now, and my longest ME1 was slightly less then 30h. But that's probably more because of mechanics and design, not because of longer and richer plot... And don't even make me compare Kaidan and Alistair. I can only say that one of them feels like real, living adult man to me and another - like cartoonish archetype character.
Anyway, how do you think, should I get DA2 or not? And is "awakening" DLC needed before DA2? I would not even consider buying it if not for nice sale price.
Taken on it's own merits, I really enjoyed DA II. While not as "epic" as DA:O (you're basically in town of Kirkwall and the outlying areas for the entire game) I found the story to be quite intriguing. My only quibbles with the game was that I wish Anders wasn't as militant in his 'free the mages" mode and that Knight-Captain Cullen was romanceable. (the things my male Hawke would have done to him would have made him forget all about his Chantry vows...)
Sorry, I'll stop drooling now.
If you do decide to pick it up, make sure one of your playthroughs is a male Hawke with witty/sarcastic responses (the purple-coded ones) - the delivery was hilarious! The 2 DLC's for the game ("Legacy" and "Mark of the Assassin") were quite good as well.
Besides, for 50% off you really can't go wrong.
As for "Awakening", some of the events in that game influence a few of the quests you get in DA II. I personally would play everything offered for DA:O and Awakening DLC-wise before starting DA II but I'm a completionist (which is a nice way of saying I'm obsessive-compulsive)
