Though, if you think about it, adding more into the plot/enhancing the plot is going to feel like it should have been there from the start.
And, I've seen worse. Assassin's Creed II took out two of their 13 levels for DLC.
The way I see it, SP DLC In ME3 has two ways to go;
A) clarification for the star brat, the reapers, or Cerberus. I believe I can safely speak for the community that the star child is hated. Not necessarly the endings, clearly there are people that enjoy them, but the child? it's almost universally agreed that inserting a major character (THE most major character) at the last second and then giving him a bad explination of what the last 300 hours has been was just wrong. No amount of insight, clarification or context will assist in softening the blow, and Cerberus? They've mangled Kai Leng and TIM enough. DLC like the proposed leviathan DLC seems to be heading in this direction.
-Or-

a nice shoot-emup run like what Omega would turn into. The problem with this is, without a significant impact on the ending of the game(which we established with EC will NOT happen), what purpose could this possibly serve? A nice distraction? EMS? Shepard even has time in the midst of a rushed reaper invasion to help Aria round up her thugs and force Cerberus off a dead rock that has absolutely no strategic value? That's being held by an orginzation which you evenutally wipe out with the 5th fleet anyway? Besides, they're constantly drilling it into you that if you want to shoot things, play MP.
You know why LOTSB was so sucessful? The characters. The proposed value of the context you were being provided for the current game and
future games. Yes the combat was a little nifty for the broker, yes the plot was amazing, the music engaging and the scenery beautiful, but when it came right down to it, you enjoyed it because of Liara whether you romanced her or not (and if you did, BIG bonus points for liara sexy time..) Because you thought ' MAN! ' how could it be any better than this? I wonder what they'll do next time!
There is no next time. You've finished ME3, you know what happens, nothing they provide you with will change that. Which is why anything similar is going to feel empty or you'll do it to have just a few more moments with your characters, and a lot of people can be satisified for that with youtube.
I don't think even new characters will be all that great. Javik was probably about as good as it's going to get, and what did they do with him? He tells you he's going to committ suicide after it's all over. They couldn't even manage to not kill off the DLC character lol.
Sucessful DLC for ME3 is going to be;
Character Dialog/ scenes, or even non-shepard playable DLC.
Shepard's story is over. Bioware's made that clear, so giving us some more clingy time is just going to open old wounds. It's just going to make people cry out- why the heck wasen't this in here before? They keep wanting to avoid the topic hoping we'll move on. They won't accomplish this with DLC that exasperates the issue. They need to move-on themselves and it needs to show in the DLC.
