It was funny too. That particular Sheploo run was already on the Citadel, ready to click on Kaidan for the date and eager to start the romance...that's when I realized HOLY SHIZZ I FORGOT THE WHISKEY!!! D: D: D:

And then I've read on what "happens" if you missed it and I was panicking for an hour (and Sheploo was looming behind Kaidan for an hour too, probably creeping him out). Afterwards, I was like meh I'll go for the date and see what happens. The entire date scene my heart was pounding so fast, but then the romance went as planned. I was like WHEW :'D

In other Kaidan-y news, I will never have the heart to do this, even with my most renegade of playthroughs. So I'll leave you guys this to cry over enjoy  :'D

Is it easier for this to happen with a first time romanced Kaidan? I can't seem to not save him. I don't mean that I've tried. I'm just saying that it happens without my trying at all.

Uhm..and what happens? 8) I missed it on femshep first time and gave it my second one. Did not see the difference...so, is it sheploo-specific? I remember that it does "something", but have no idea what exactly.

because before i started playing ME3 i was looking up who i could romance ETC. ETC.

then it said Kaidan was romancable (SCORE!)

So i then read onwards and it said he could "die" during the coup if "shepard didn't do this" etc etc...

that why i went nuts and made sure i did everything.

It's just a supposition, but maybe being a douchy renegade to Kaidan (starting from Mars) or missing at least one hospital visit (I don't know how you manage to save him on the Coup this way if you do so), might trigger the "let's be friends" thing on the date. This happened to me with Liara and Traynor--my pure renegades didn't have the option for romancing them (initiate romance lines were cut from the dialogue wheel). Otherwise, it's a faulty import (faulty Genesis-comic thing).

I also don't think it's Sheploo-specific because that would be unfair for other M!Sheps haha.

or too lazy to head to the citadel for 5 minutes of their time...

Well, I've read the romance guides on the web too, like obviously a lot of us, and they always say you should buy the whiskey to help the romance. My guess is that there must be some kind of romance score system, where you gain or lose points depending on your actions and dialogue choices. The initial score at the beginning of ME3 is probably different depending on your past history with Kaidan (so that's it's easier for faithful ME1 Shepards to lock Kaidan romance).

So it would make sense that buying booze adds points (hey, it's booze, but still, it's a gift), while renegading and not visiting makes you lose some.

I've always wondered why Ashley had several gift options though (at least flowers, Tennyson's poems and a 3rd one i think), while for Kaidan it's only booze.

About Kaidan getting back on the Normandy, Shep glances at his butt at that moment, since you only lock the romance later on, I was wondering if it was faithful Shep specific since it's "auto-dialogue", you don't actually choose to glance at his butt! I was surprised by that, since the dialogue is so neutral (no romance hint at all), and wondered what triggered that. Don't tell me that you look at his butt even if you don't want to romance him?!

Yeah. I would have liked the chance to give him flowers or candy so he wouldn't have to wonder if I was flirting with him or not.

That's only for Shepards who romanced him in ME1 (and I believe stayed loyal through ME2 though I'm not 100% sure about that). Too bad it was auto dialogue. My M!Shep totally would've taken that option had it been offered.

Yup, Hophazard is right. Got it only with my faithful F!Shep (my poor Sheploo didn't stare, my default Jane Shep didn't stare either--poor Sheps missing out)

My bad, I said no romance hint at all, but he actually says something like "it's not everyday you nearly get to shoot someone you love", at which Shep answers... nothing important... blablablah, and then they shake hands (REALLY???), and then butt glance.

It's really too bad that Shepards don't get to actually chose to do that or not, some sort of "romance interrupt" would have been great!!! Better than buying booze anyway

I feel the same way. But I'm headcanoning that Shepard is just so into "Commander mode on, don't flirt with your subordinates so openly--ahem...superiors. Don't let him see me blush...please" haha. Or maybe Shepard just doesn't want to assume what exactly Kaidan is feeling for them (after Horizon and all) and is so oblivious to see that Kaidan is still head over heels (adds to the unresolved tension).

Of course, it's very understandable, but then why the butt glance?
It would have been nice to to have actual options here... The butt glance really made me laugh the first time, but I think i would have really enjoyed being renegade on him at that point while still taking him back on the Normandy of course... "See how you made me suffer on Horizon??? "

Honestly when I've seen that buttshot I thought that it's not femshep targeted..but if you say that it's romance-specific- mshep can not have one without tweaks...I don't know, probably, that's just me (or local culture and mentality thing), but I can't see male butt as any bit attractive "fetish" for a straight female. Last thing my femshep would be staring, really. Even back of the head would not feel so out of place to me (especialy, if combined with some proper angle and quick glancing back form Kaidan).

But, as I mentioned before, making buttshots requires much less effort than making proper facial (like halfsmile) or model (like footlocker) animations.

 I loved the butt glare, it is sad that so many Shepards miss out. That butt bit made me laugh though!  Thought it was a great little bit to add for those who have been waiting for Kaidan to be back on the Normandy since he left. 

ME2 was such a painful wait for Kaidan haha!  

Although for people who only romanced him in ME3 it does suck you didn't get the butt glance, or atleast the choice, because I do think it's a nice addition to the romance with him!
