Nice! So wait... this is your VERY FIRST ME1 playthrough???? (But you've seen vids right?)
Oooooooooh, lucky you, awesome ME1 is the best, enjoy, and tell us about it!!!

That's right, I hate playing on computers and I dont have a xbox360. I like games for their story, not for their genre, and I was told that Mass Effect had a good one. So I watched a few trailers and decided to give it a try (ME2) and before that, I read a little bit about ME1's story and watched a few videos so I could catch up, and at least the PS3 version comes with an interactive comic telling the main story of the first game and  it let you make the important decision, like for example let Kaidan or Ashley live. But yes, this is going to be the first time to enjoy the full experience for me.

Nrieh wrote...
You see? High-res ME1 Kaidan loves clean laptops! 8) Enjoy! And don't listen to anyone. The only thing that game lacks of - is same grade sequels. And, probably, slightly less oldschool-console controls for PC version. :) And don't be afraid of mako - she's cool!

If only I could play with a controller... the controls are driving me crazy...
Dont know who is Mako yet, but that name reminds me of Final Fantasy VII, oh good memories...

@Beep > you mean missing Kaidan, right? I'm sorry for you mSheps, yeah, no Kaidan here if you play unmodded...
@SiberianHusk: are you?

Thanks I will enjoy it, that's for sure!!
Yes, Im playing with mShep and without mods. But it's not a problem, I'm planing to kill Kaidan off anyway and romance Ashley. Just kidding, I won't do that, I won't miss this opportunity to learn more about Kaidan, but seriously,  someday I'll have to try an Ash playthrough, at least so I could know what I am missing for killing her everytime on the ME2 interactive comic.

On a side note, I've been playing ME3 multiplayer and I finally got one of the new DLC Earth characters, yay!! I have the N7 Destroyer. So it has been a great Mass Effect day to me

Also, Doodle, I'm on Xbox so I don't know why we haven't been kicking ass on multi-player together. It's a tragedy, really.

I only saved Ashely on my full on renegade playthrough where I also romanced Liara...sooo...MOST BORING PLAYTHROUGH EVAR.   I just can't get into it.  I just finished the coup but the only thing I'm looking forward to is the EC Renegade Control ending.

And playing Mshep/Kaidan w/o mods is not so bad.  It makes the whole story a lot more romantic IMO.  Mshep is secretly in hung up on Kaidan for 3 years and they finally come together.  SO DAMN CUTE.  Also there's a little bit of romantic-ish dialogue I think just because he was cut as a s/s romance at the last minute.  Maybe I'm reading into it because I love that couple but that's what I'm going with.

That's right, knowing that these two are going to end being together Im going to read their conversations from another perspective.

And actually I had a renegade playthrough in ME2 and I let Ash alive, but I stop playing before arriving to Horizon. Renegade Shepard may have hillarious lines, but I find playing with paragon shepard more entertaining.

Oops, It's too late in this part of the world, I should leave and have some rest. Good night!!

And that's what I don't understand. Considering that large fanbase has long-term relations with this game (those who started with ME1 as it was released), considering all the feedback, how could they miss that game is already NOT just a game? I mean not a regular videogame. Not for each and every player, yes. But, hey, they were continuing to sell it as "personal saga, no-canon, choice matters". So..they knew about players' feelings, about..addiction? They had basic ideas how it all worked...
And then - boom - "we did not know you would need to see more of it, we did not know they were important to you".

Either someone was lying, or someone did not do his job. Something tells me that now they highly regret that they "killed" series. No matter how high players hopes are - Shepard is...over (even if some still alive). And so does MEU - there is no place for post-ending plot. Unless they decide to make "canon" ending...there was "canon" council, after all... But, probably, it's for better (I mean burned bridges to ME4 and further story).

And no matter what BW will make now - people will compare it with ME1 (and DAO). We will search for signs of Alenko (not visually, but as a writing quality, as a depth of character) in future LI. An no matter if we find them or not - we may be disappointed.

Honestly?
I totally believe the rumor that was posted (and then subsequently deleted) by one of the BW writers; that Casey and that other guy went off into a room to finish up the ending of the game. There is simply no other logical explanation for the lack of quality in that part of the game.

I would also have to agree with your assesment of the franchise. a ME without shepard is pointless.

So is this kind of the general consensus?  The ME universe can't exist w/o Shepard?

I do definitely agree that people will always compare future games to ME1 in terms of character development, but to be honest I think they did a pretty good job (in that respect) with DA2.  Writing good characters is never something that BW has ever had a problem with IMO so I'm not too worried about that for future games in the universe.

I'm kind of thinking too that they'll make some kind of canon outcome (if they choose to make more games, which..come on it's EA so they probably will) that will result in everyone being on essentially the same page.  Some kind of future struggle that will make your final choice pretty much irrelevant (yeah, I get the irony).

Anyway, I'm of a fan of the universe over all.  I think I'd buy more games just to see where it goes. and I don't agree that Shepard is necessary for the story to go on.  But this is probably because I read the books/read the comics so I'm kind of used to the universe existing w/o Shepard or at least with him/her as only a peripheral character.

I felt the same way. I explained it that my Sheploo was secretly in love with Kaidan but did not want to risk the whole fraternization headache, lest the mission to stop Saren become totally compromised. The hardest part was trying to be nice to Ashley and Liara and Tali and Jack and not get ninjamanced.

And you're right - the fact that Shepard and Kaidan can finally be honest with their feelings towards each other in ME3 makes the romance that much more special...and completely heart-breaking at the evacuation scene. Posted Image

Damn you, BioWare.

And boy howdy, do I feel conflicted by that!! On one hand, I did so want a reunion scene in the EC but if there was one, I never would have had the pleasure of being introduced to your awe-inspiring artwork.

Or would I? If there was a reunion scene in the EC, would you have done the artwork as well?

The cute push on Mars, "Don't Kaidan me!," buttshot, Harkin's princess-comment, "We are both women," etc. are all worth the trouble of doing a modded Shep.:innocent:

Highly doubtful, but while I'm glad to paint them I still would have preferred to have it happen in game.  Kinda like the "I love you scene" seeing it actually happen was so much more gratifying than just imagining they had said it.

Definitely! Kaidan's not the clean shave type

Major Alenko - may be, but Lt. Alenko used to follow regulations more...welll..some part of regulations... 8P

If only I could play with a controller... the controls are driving me crazy...

They say that if you have any kind of PC controller - it makes life easyer. But I'm a heavy keyboard-lover, and most of layout is more or less traditional.

Dont know who is Mako yet, but that name reminds me of Final Fantasy VII, oh good memories...

Oooh....Mako, yes. Mako is your faightful, allmighty, all-terrain, multiwheeled...tank that you use to explore planets. 8)

I would also have to agree with your assesment of the franchise. a ME without shepard is pointless.

That's not exactly what I was going to say, I even like DA2 shifting protagonist thing. It is good. I did not finish it yet, so - I'm not yet sure about all DA2 hating. But that one was 100% good.

Lack of Shepard is a small part of post-ME3 games problem. 4 totally different outcomes - are a problem. Because either they make one universe version (and announce "canon" ending, and ruin their own strongest feature) or they have to make 3(!!) different universes (and those who picked deny will still be pissed, but I can't see how this one can be continued), and each should include hell amount of choice and living characters variables.

I wish they made Vega-based game instead of movie. Or anything ME1\\2-timelined. Which "respects" Shepard and choices. And which has another main character (random good alliance soldier). And may, possibly, include some squad and crew (thinking about Kaidan Alenko, who had plenty of time to do stuff while ME2...). So, if they write something like that, in a proper way - I may even consider preordering. That's the only possible non-breaking spot for a game in series I see.

And...*sigh* and I know that if they include Kaidan - he will share plot spot with Ashley...again. And he may not even be playable (non-squad, questgiver)... But you know, seeing Kaidan who thinks shepard is dead...Is it just me who finds such game plot an interesting one? I'm not sadistic type (like if I love to see him suffer), but, hey - we missed two years. We have no idea what it was...I still wanna know. <-)

He lacks his iconic bushy eyebrows :'D

On another note, I just realized that with my mShep (imported if that counts) as he carries the injured Kaidan on Mars he goes in hysterics: "Kaidan! Kaidan!" while my fSheps were all quietly concentrating on lifting him. I didn't notice that difference until now~ And it's been a while since I played my Sheploo again (seeing Sheploo in action again rekindles the hots I have for him haha)

Well, i don't know how much of a Kaidanite you are at that point, from only meeting him in ME2/ME3, it'll be interesting to have your input! Also, it's nice you're fine with the unmodded mShep playthrough, it would be a pity to not be able to appreciate the game because of that!

Hint: do not drive directly up (especially, if the mountain is hard). Drive up+side, as if you were going to move "serpentine" style, like most of real mountain roads go. Or give controls to Kaidan. He's hell god at makoing (if only you use seatbelts)

I just realized that with my mShep (imported if that counts) as he carries the injured Kaidan on Mars he goes in hysterics: "Kaidan! Kaidan!" while my fSheps were all quietly concentrating on lifting him.

Was femshep also imported? I can't remember her shouting. And mine was imported. Probably, same bug as with "Steeeeeve!!1111", but vice versa? 8P

ps: oh. me on top. cool. Have some Kaidan makoing then! 8P  (use rightclick- open image to see full scale)
