You're saying you've never had someone change your thought process before? Or a teacher who exposed you to a new idea that changed your perception of an issue? A coach who encouraged you and inspired you to be greater than you would have been without his/her influence?Nrieh wrote...
And also about personality changes. I don't think it's right to consider that player can really change character's personality (or orientation, yes, DA2, I'm looking at you, or anything else). Non-player characters are called so for a reason. They are constants, given by videogame writers or live GM or anything. Player - is a variable. I did not like "hardening" thing in DAO the way it was put there. Yes, you can inspire your friendloversquad to shift one's opinion, one way or another. But I doubt we can talk about some permanent nature changes here, that can be visible 3 years later. How do you imagine it, I wonder? Kaidan (or Ash) saying something as mantra each morning, just because Shepard thought about it once?

Yes, of course. But good teacher never does anything besides helping student to be what (s)he actually is. It's not really about changing one's mind or following one's path or something. Shepard influed all of his\\her squad - that's true, but I doubt those changes can be represented as something linear - like "shepard renegaded Kaidan - Kaidan became renegadish". I don't think you can pick consequences of those "changes" from entire character we see in ME3.You're saying you've never had someone change your thought process before? One moment he's there and then he's not, lol. Hopefully something can be done to fix it. It is minor but minor flavours really do enhance the overall experience! E: Oh, actually I'm just misremembering. I remember a few occassions when Shep and Femshep had eye animations that annoyed me. Mainly with their eyes not opening fully. It grew annoying.

Well the game mechanic is, at times, inelegant, as you aptly described, but it still serves as a nice parallel to real world relationships. I think that both Shepard and the Warden can be good teachers if that's how you rp them, even if it is represented imperfectly.Nrieh wrote...

And as for DAO "hardening"....that's just a bad example of "teaching". "Master" says it this way - student follows ( or better say - decides to follow) way shown by master.
