I had a lot of issues with Jacob as an LI, but none really as just a subordinate/friend. The romance just seemed totally forced, which is exactly opposite what it felt like with Kaidan in ME1, and thus is even more glaring. I just hope that whatever writer is working on Kaidan for ME3 1) actually likes the character and 2) has a knack for writing dialogue that feels natural, especially if it's romantic dialogue.

I actually liked Jacob's romance because like Kaidan he is a normal dude who doesn't need Shepard there to 'fix' them. He will actually get mad if Shepard presses him on the issue on his father. I still like Kaidan's romance the best.

Jacob always seemed like the opposite to Kaidan in my eyes. Yes they both want to 'do some good' but Kaidan is very open about himself where Jacob is closed off (of course being around Cerberus people doesnt help him). For all my FemSheps being told by Jacob that hes not interested to share was a big romantic turn off. Some of them had issues with Kaidan not trusting them on Horizon and moved on but Jacob felt like a step back. I dont know if Im the only one to see those differences between the two.

Really I see Kaidan as very closed off. Yes he talks to Shepard about BAat but that isn't to open up and share his feelings. It was more of a warning than 'share time'. Chakwas even tells Shepard that Kaidan keeps to himself mostly and had Shepard not pressed Kaidan he might not have told Shepard anything about himself. The only difference between them when it comes to that is that Jacob gets mad when pressed on the issue and Kaidan laughs and gets bashful. Jacob isn't interested in sharing because there isn't anything to share. Asking someone over and over again 'are you okay?' 'are you sure your okay?' 'do you want to talk about it?' when there isn't anything to talk about can get on some people's nerves.

All and all I do see them as two very different men. And they both they have things I really like about them. More men who don't need the main character to hold their hands and fix their problems please!

I thought Jacob was boring before, but given time he is a very interesting LI. I think every character is worth the time in various unique ways. For Jacob, when I choose him as LI, there was a certain feedback to one of my Shep just like Kaidan. And the reward is great (and I don't mean the special scenes ... although those are nice too ^^). They give Shep a chance to express an opinion, not a response. Shep respond a lot during the game - paragon/renegade etc what-have-you - but not a lot of personal expression/opinion.

So it was special for me to hear Jacob ask my Shep what is on her mind. Like meonlyred have said Jacob and Kaidan don't need the PC's hands to hold and cling onto. Your party members just need to have a little backbone once in a while.

I think there are a lot of comparisons that can be made between Jacob and Kaidan tbh.....
For a start they both have patient and long suffering fans..
Both suffer an entirely undeserved reputation (Kaidan for being whiny and Jacob for being creepy, which he isn't ~ Shepard is)
Both are sensible and honourable and don't ask or want to be *fixed* by anyone. They've dealt with it already....
Both are a *one man woman* in their approach.
They both have excellent voice actors too, tbh.

As a LI Jacob is lovely, he is romantic and thoughtful and deceptively well written he suffers for Shepard's *dog on heat* tone which is Hale's fault and for *The priiiize* That's it, that is all that is wrong with it... but that can be laid at other doors than Jacob...
So yeah... I have lots of Kaidan-faithful Shepard and I have one (but planning another) Jacob save (I created a single Shepard for him....
Kaidan is and always will be my main squeeze in games though

I agree a 100% with what you said Jen and I feel ashamed that I thougth so bad about him at first. I was even thinking about having one single Shep for Jacob, but my Sheps can't stay away from Kaidan..

Wow. Luke wrote Jacob, Kaidan and Joker =) these are my fav guys in ME.

Don't want to gush too much about Jacob in the Kaidan-thread but I think that Meonlyred and Jenova said it well. Kaidan is my fav ME-LI and Jacob my fav ME2-LI. They are both mature guys, both have gone through some rough things but they did so themselves. They don't need my FemShep to fix that. They are there for her, just as she is there for them. What can I say, Luke writes really niice guys.

Getting closer to horizon on the current FemShep. It might sting but it's the only bit of Kaidan that she is getting in this game so I guess it's for the best. Continue with the Kaidan-love =)

He always survives in mine, my cheating Shepard and my Jacob romancing Shepard are going to have some tough times on the Normandy in 3 :P But I would say Jacob is worth at least one play through

This vid was indeed very sad...and well, like I said I will try, I just hope I don't mess up as I did with Fenris in DA2...lol...(do you remember how that went ?^^). Also I think want to give Thane a chance in one playthrough, but Kaidan...well...he's just my absolute number 1 and that's why it's so hard to give another romance a chance...

I'll be honest I'm curious about the confrontation in ME3. Which kind of inpact it might have when you have cheated. How things will work out and which consequences Shepard will face during the game...I just don't know if I want to find out myself or rather watch it on Youtube ;P

Lol, I know what you mean, but watching it on youtube just ISN'T the same..... You don't really get the concept of consequence until you actually *face* it iyswim? So I did it.... I did it on my first play through too (got it out of the way)

I figure, I've already waited a long time and if it sucks everyone will have already been through it, so I will be prepared  And if it is amazing... then, for sure I will be glad I saved it

I know Thane and it's not really cheating. But even one of the devs are using his word in this case. For me it's this way: you have been in coma and just woke up, so for you the world hasn't changed and you still have the same feelings for the person.
Horizon was only one chapter for me. Not a great one, but one I can live with. Oh well, there they had a fight and argued, but that doesn't mean everything is just over because of this moment (which the message you get proves).
So my Sheps are staying faithful to Kaidan. There might be a discussion about what happened, but they have still strong feelings and hope that things will work out. That's the way it works for my Shepards in my own opinion

Except it is cheating. Particularly when it comes to Kaidan. If it had been left at just Horizon, then no it wouldn't have been cheating. But his letter is what turns "moving on" into "unfaithfulness".

His letter basically says "I'm sorry, I was an idiot. There hasn't been anybody since you. I still want only you. But we're both in the middle of dangerous stuff neither one of us can talk about. Can we try "us" again when we're not both staring death in the face? But, you know, only if you want to, since I don't know how you feel and I don't want to push. P.S. I have faith in you."

Also? That bit about "That night meant everything to me"? The blatant subtext is "You meant everything to me". He's extending the olive branch that says (however hesitantly) "I love you and I want to try to make this work. To make us work.". So, yes. Moving on from the VS after you receive that letter most definitely is cheating.

He doesn't say he wants nothing to do with Shepard, he wants nothing to do with Cerberus and he is right (imo)
What do you honestly think Kaidan would do if Shepard went....

He would take her off in his Alliance shuttle right there and then...  Then he could take her in the shuttle....  (mind went somewhere else then, sorry, lol)
