It's tough, you have to pursue him, but if you come on too strong I think that's a deal breaker too.  Basically you have to tell him you're interested *before* Horizon, which is hard to do, because you haven't seen Kaidan yet.  I can always interpret Horizon as Kaidan breaking up with Shep, but going after Jacob before you've seen Kaidan feels wrong to me.  I was working on it in my incomplete insanity run.  Haven't gotten the priiize yet.

Jacob never really did-it for me.  Not that I could on my mSheps, but just wasn't interested.

I felt indeed Jacob was really playing hard to get on my Shep. Everybody else was just so eager to get to her cabin to feed the fish, Jacob was the exception really. I've never seen anything but high-five Jacob in-game. I liked that he was the first character you get to meet in ME2, he fitted the role well. Ah, well, sorry Jacob...

Can Jacob really die in ME2? I know with everyone else someone takes their place in the story in ME3. Does someone else knock up Brynn?

My first ME2 PT I sent Thane... I was sad he died but he was terminal anyway.   Then I found out you don't *have* to loose anyone on the SM so on my follow on Shepards it Tali or Legion. 

I don't care for Jacob as a LI, but he's OK as a crewmember. I was mildly more interested in LotSB when he was doing shirtless situps.

Yeah, in fact I pretty much couldn't stand talking to him at all before Horizon, thanks to femshep's default "throwing herself at Jacob" pose.

EDIT>  i sent Jacob to accompany Chakwas, this kept him alive to repopulate Earth and also while getting him out of my sight. Seriously, i felt he would do good at that. Can anybody die accompanying Chakwas???

But what confused me was that during his cutscenes in the "Ex-Cerberus Scientists" mission not once does Jacob use his biotic abilities. Did someone at BW forget he had them?

As long as they are loyal, you can send anyone to escort Dr. Chakwas/Normandy crew and they will survive.

This was just after ME2 launched, no one yet knew for sure how to survive without losses.  By the time I got to the SM on my second Shepard I knew how to get everyone out of the SM alive. 

My first PT I really thought I'd *have* to loose at least someone (you know, like Virmire) and maybe even more than one person.  It's called a "suicide mission" I figured people would get lost and maybe even Shepard could choose to save the crew at the risk of his/her own life.

I knew you were kidding Mimi. I just figured the vent was a "Virmire moment" that no matter who was sent, they'd die. 

I think he menas that Kaidan, in most cut-scenes, never uses his biotics. I don't think he even users barrier, it's assumed it's becuase he's interchangable with Ash so they never spent the time to customize the cutscenes for the two.

EDIT> as soon as i did the loyalty missions, and as i saved Tali after the vents, i just knew this was no SM, but just a marketing trick. I've never felt worried about my teammates, which is a pity, they definitely could have make us make mandatory choices, à la Virmire. At least some ME2 characters would have been useful...

Don't get me started about using biotics and proper weapons in cuts....again...

You see, Jacob (same as Kaidan) does not have big blue asari ******. And only characters which have are allowed to use biotics in cuts. Rare exeption - Thane vs Cereal Killa Kavaii Leng...but that's because he was dying anyway, I think. Someone somewhere had some pity for him and allowed Thane to do it... 8E

The first time I did the Suicide Mission, I sent Zaeed with the crew and he bit the dust.  So not safe spot! lol
