Ehhhhhhh, given that you can't have Shepard respond to said email (which bites, by the way), it would be presumptuous of Kaidan to think that sending an email is going to make everything all better and that Shepard is going to give him a chance. I could see him being hurt that she moved on and won't give him another chance, but he shouldn't expect it.

That's just my opinion though.

Yet, after a short period of time in Shep's point of view, she goes and f**ks someone else. It seems a little impulsive to me..My cannon Shep wouldn't do that to Kaidan, and I have yet to decide if I want to make a double-romance Shep.
So in my opinion, even though it's not technically cheating, it's still hurting the other person. Which some people think Kaidan deserves...
And some Sheps are "impulsive" (I'm trying to say this in a non-negative way..passionate? man-eater? ) and if that's what they wanted to do, more power to them!

I didn't read it as he expects.  more like he hopes, but he expects or assumes nothing.  Kaidan doesn't assume, despite some of the questionable writing on Horizon.  he doesn't start walking away untill after you tell him you are connected to cerberus - this confirming the intell he already had.  he is willing to listen untill that moment.  sure we were railroaded into it - no matter which option you chose in that convo - you confirm your cerberus connection.  but...he still doesn't assume.

of course it will hurt him all over again.  but its not like Shepard wasn't hurt.  and for Shepard it was a lot less time, inmagine Shepard who cared and they are racing to see their beloved, someone they didn't see for a few weeks, and that beloved yells at them and walks away.  they hurt each other.  in relationships?  that happens.  sometimes you weather it and only grow stronger.  and sometimes?  relationship dies.

and it hurts when relationship dies, but you cannot always fix everything.  sometimes?  you move on, becasue staying would only casue more pain.

Going to throw my opinion of the letter and stance on the FShep/Kaidan relationship thingamajig.

I don't think it's cheating, Shepard died. But Kaidan makes it obvious that there really hasn't been anyone else due to mourning. He then see's you alive etc. Relationship isn't back on by defualt but in the situation they were in ME1 (well for my shep anyway) she would never be with a fellow soldier like that. Due to regulations etc. What she had with Kaidan was special. Again it's not cheating but waking up after 2 years and expecting your "widow" lover to suddenly act like nothing happened/ be happy with the horizon situation would be wrong.

To contradict what I say in a way, even with the way he behaves on Horizon, my canon FemShep didn't romance anyone in ME2 due to her feelings for Kaidan and for her to be with someone else would be like cheating even though it wasn't, for her it wasn't 2 years and I think Kaidan could see it as such if you suddenly jump the gun with someone else.
To be honest, it's not really a situation that anyone would ever really be in. It is how you as a player interpret it.


I can see where people come from and saying Kaidan blew it with his behaviour, fair play I can see that. I have one file to have for a "cheating playthrough" (still decided whether to do it or not )

I just understand his anger.

My shep didn't see it as cheating. She just thought Kaidan was a douche and had strong urges to beat him with his own skull while screaming out "WTF!?"

The letter...if only you could reply with "Shove it!" That letter while it does seem like Kaidan is giving you a chance at something later as a female that was just complete bs. You don't apologize or do whatever that was in a letter. You send a nice holo so we can see your face and not misunderstand your intentions. And also so we can vent at your projected image and let out all that steam.

I've done multiple "cheater" plays, Thane, Jacob(*shudders), Samara, just to see the different outcomes in ME3 when they arise. Admittedly, they're all with the same Shepard who is an impulsive little cow. She's had no long term relationships and after Horizon she figured she'd continue with the same trend. That's when she started up her new relationships, Alenko ended it on Horizon and she wasn't interested in sitting around moping. She isn't a moper.

When she saw Alenko's email, she considered it a safety precaution more than anything. Kind of like keeping his options open in case he actually gets around to seeing her point of view.. My impulsive Shep didn't like that one bit, peeved her off no end. So she figured if being with Thane/Samara/Jacob (*shudders*) hurt him, all the better. She's petty like that. A petty little impulsive cow that doesn't mope.

I find this all very fascinating. Let's say, hypothetically, in the beginning of ME3, things get handled the way Horizon should have been handled -- Kaidan (and Ashley) apologizing face to face, whatever -- would that be sufficient for a do-over or is it way too late? Would your Shepard be willing to give a second chance or stay committed to the ME2 LI? I've been wondering how compelling the circumstances would have to be to turn around to the ME2 LI and say, "I'm sorry, but the VS has been the one for me all along." Wonder how that would play out. =p

That being said, i consider Samara to be more of a romance than anyone else in ME2. Call me crazy. She cares enough to nearly break her code for you, then brutally rejects you. Rejection is refreshing and a lot more "real" to me than anything else in Mass Effect so far. Eager to see how Samara will play out in ME3, cause i reeeeally like the character.

I don't know what Meghan Shepard will do.  I have, however, been threatened on pain of bodily injury against her breaking Garrus' heart.

I'm of an opinion that either both should apologize or neither.   neither Shepard nor VS were at their best on Horizon, both made mistakes.

as for second chances - that depends on a Shepard.

I only have one Shepard who moved on as of right now.  and I'm still not sure what she's going to do.  I'm leaning towards keeping her with Jacob  (I adore his romance path, seriously, i find some of the cheesy lines indearing rsther then cringe worthy - its the Shepard that makes me cringe there, at least in the beginning, once you get past innitial flirting - its fantastic).  She cares for both. she's not completely over Kaidan, but she grew to genuinely care for Jacob.  so its going to be tough.

Sia's Meghan better stay with Garrus >_>  Kaidan is just not the right man for her, you can love someone and still not be right for them.

I'm wondering if I want to do a playthrough where ME2 LI would be the one dumped in ME3.  but none of them are coming across as casual.  the only one I can imagine is Garrus and even he eventualy shows that its not just casual for him, so femshep I can invision right now, would just let him go gently during the pre SM scene...

hmm... something to ponder..... for science.

My Shepard was hurt and angry after Horizon and would she have had the opportunity to kick his butt there, she would probably have done it in her first anger ;P (She has a little temper ^^). The letter calmed her and gave her hope, but that's just my point of view on it. And actually I enjoy to see all the different views. Some even make me think about my own, while I don't agree with others...In a way I think it's even great that we can interpret it in different ways, isn't it...

The great thing about BioWare is that the way things play out means we are all free to interpret how we see fit, dependent largely on A) the kind of person we are and How we choose to RP particular characters..
So if you play and think you are cheating, then you d*mn well are BUT if you choose to move on and see it as such, then for sure....  you moved on and didn't cheat 
Most importantly.... If someone elses game play doesn't ruin mine, what does it matter?

My Shepard certainly believes she has cheated on Kaidan with Thane, but that doesn't mean I think everyone's Shepard is cheating, just how I choose to view that Shepard in that scenario
