Ah... words, difficult things to handle.
Not sure why you related this to what i was saying, what i was refering to by "ME1 artefact" is all the remaining occurences of KaidEn spelling from the game files (for instance video files names) and from what AkodoRyu said > dialogue text files. I seem to remember 1 or 2 occurences in-game since i actually turn subtitles on, which is interesting, because most english native speakers wouldn't bother and probably never saw that. Probably, at some point they hesitated between two spellings, and decided for KaidAn, and all occurences were not properly removed. OR it was KaidAn all along, someone made the mistake, and it was copy pasted by some other dev and so on, and it was never double checked during quality testing process.

Quick thought about misspelling while waiting for meal to be ready.

Looks like Alenko's character is full of totally unique features. I mean - show me any other LI that have problems with name spelling. Especially - with spelling in official site. Well, may be Gar®us sometimes lacks of one 'r' on BSN...And also Mordin\\Modrin things exists. But those are slightly different kind of typos.

People are just that silly


But for a serious answer, a couple of ME1 cutscenes misspelled his name (noticed it twice ONLY though <_<). Bioware also misspelled his name in some other promotional materials, such as that ME3 website (you'd think they know the characters they make <_<). It's also a common mistake for ME fans, not that I get the logic in that <_<.

I'd give you a long answer about "where this name came from", but I dont think you were talking about onomastic aspect here. 8P So I'll give you short one.

Name exists in real life and has a lot of spelling variations, with "Kaiden" being one of top popular ones. Alenko's spelling is unique. Was it writer's (Drew? I dont' know who wrote Kaidan for ME1) intention or just a typo, which happened once and became "canon" - we don't know.So - I understand why people may misspell, but that still does not look good.

As for inner files and variables - I already told that those sometimes have nothing to do with reality. E.g. I've seen DB table containing contacts and names of employees which could be mildly translated as "poor silly things".
