@Graceyn I admit to not reading your chapter updates in a while. But no worries, no criticisms from my side and I'm still a fan~ But detailed endings (Earth stuff) makes me hurt too much, and seeing your fic, something I followed since the beginning, reach that precipice...I dunno, I guess I'll abstain from it until it finishes to moderate my FEELS (wishing for a happy Kaidan ending as well...do I dare hope?) :crying: Keep up the good work; I look forward to the nearing end~:wizard:

As much as I like looking at this, it still hurts me :P

Awww, thanks for saying something.  I totally understand if you want to wait until the end to read the "entire" end.  If that's the case, come back around...:: looks at the calendar::...August 29th, I believe.  The publication schedule will be accelerated a bit so I can finish before the hubby and I go to PAX Prime over Labor Day :wizard:.  Plus, all the final chapters are already drafted and are in various states of editing.

I don't want to give away too much, but I will say this.  In my opinion, the worst travesty of the original ME3 endings wasn't the lore contradictions, or the lack of information about what happened to the people you had come to care about - it was the sense of desolation and despair they evoked.  And I would never, ever do such a thing to anyone.

As for the final arc (Cerb HQ to end) - emotional, dramatic, intense, suspenseful?  I hope it is all of those things, and then some, I really do.

But I did not write this far, for this long, to do a sad ending; it's just not my style B).

:: scrambles for yet more Kaidan ::

@Mimi (to my reply many pages ago): oh, wasn't really replying to your post. Just whenever I see artefat, it reminds me of the From Ashes DLC.

Haven't seen that gif in a while...now those push ups are going to distract me for the rest of the day.

Oh dear, three hours without a post?

Champagne is awesome. Thanks for all the birthday wishes from the lovely people here - I knew none of you last year, I now check this forum many times a day and enjoy the daily banter and discussion - not sure what I'd do without this!

11 days til more Kaidan dialog! (28th, right?) I shall set the countdown clock!

Agreed, the lack of closure and information was just insult to injury.

Team Kaidanite made it Image IPB - so what use is that shield for?
That first round last night was possibly the WORST i've ever played, personal dying record here.
I want a better Saber...

EDIT > that push-up gif is way too distracting for a no-coffee-yet saturday morning.

I won't go back there, just painful memories. But yes, desolation it was, in many ways.
I'll juste quote this, pretty sums it up for me Image IPB > this made me laugh 2 months ago, thank god, i could still laugh about it.

@Graceyn and other disappointed-of-the-ending sympathizers I definitely agree. While the EC does show a picture of "hope and triumph" for the galaxy, the whole ending just feels so...divorced from Shepard. Not to sound selfish or anything, but I played and got hooked to the series primarily because of the characters and the most primary of them all is that bull-headed Shepard--and when the Mass Effect stops being about Shepard so abruptly...well. Yes, I understand that they got things coming for them because of their survival of many impossible feats and that the universe doesn't conspire to what that someone wants no matter how hard they try, but leaving such a message for a series that used to be about "defeating the odds because that's what Shepard is" just evokes this feeling of...emptiness and nihilism that I'd never want to experience again. So Graceyn, thank you for not doing that and I definetely look forward to it.

As an aside, I wished the ending gameplay made full use of those friggin' war assets we took the time to gather and Shepard's leadership skills. It was done beautifully in ME2. I wished it became some sort of macro-scale ME2 suicide mission--Shepard ordering the fleets and ground forces to do certain strategic things (and maybe have consequences for bad assignments) ala Dragon Age: Origins and the suicide mission, while Shepard and Team Normandy kicks Reaper ass (and Harbringer boss battle arrrrrgggghhhh). This way, your assets are not just a number to get a slightly different cutscence, but something seen and worth it in actual gameplay. But bah...(lol never been this bitter about a videogame).

for MP: I haven't used the Paladin yet... as I am not good at being that close to the enemy

Although they added the extra "I love you" scene in the EC, it was heart-wrenching to see Kaidan's holding Shep's name plate. I am glad the Kaidan I had didn't' have to put it up.

The shield negates damage. Negated Brute's charge and Banshee's Warp + That-Close-Range-Bubble-Attack. The shield could also take the three shots which Ravager shoots before breaking. B)

@lindtchoco > ok about "artefact" Image IPB

@laikabaws > i'm sorry, "war assets"? What is that? Ooooh, you mean that number at the bottom of the screen which is the sum of OTHER numbers, and then to which you apply a multiplier to get yet another number? That same number that used to result in something pre-EC and now results in something different post-EC? ...

I totally expected an epic wargame style ending, with you as Hackett (more likely than Shepard) dispatching assets strategically with real-time updates and so on. It didn't need to be anything fancy, just... smart and fulfilling. And NO, codex-style lore for each war asset is NOT fulfilling.  Where to dispatch Special Ops? Where would Aria's mercenaries would be more efficient? Make me make choices, decisions, make me play, put me in control of Shepard's and ME destiny, that's what i expected, that's what i needed to feel part of this story.

You know what is so ironic, and somewhat sad though?
I'm speaking for players who where emotionally involved in ME3 - others played it very casually, for instance without LI, and really, good for them, although they probably think we are crazy people.
If i had felt any kind of emotional fulfillment from the ending, even that predictable rainbow happy ending, i would have probably overlooked all the gameplay and narrative failures of this game.
That feeling of utter... emptiness, felt like a slap in the face, a denial of the value of every emotion i had invested in the franchise. For some reason, it came from the game itself, not from some random stranger. So yes, i felt like i had been fooled, almost insulted.

I totally agree with you! And haha yeah casual players of the game tend to think im a little crazy being so bothered by the ending, im glad you guys are here haha, but yeah the ending left me feeling so empty too and really sad Image IPB

Love the pictures by the way!

It also makes me so sad that, after that goodbye scene with Kaidan, from the picture you posted above, im thinking yeah I can't wait to see Kaidan again after this mission, Bioware is not going to put him through the heartache of loosing me again!

But nope, they do exactly that! Although obviously as im sure a lot of you do too, in my head they find eachother again Image IPB

But yeah just all that upsets me ><

"In case of emergency....use your imagination" - should've been written on a game box, instead of "take Earth back" BS, really...

And also I'm not sure were they aware about it, but all they did (with EC included) - complicated any logical way of reunion. You can either ignore everything that happens post London-goodby, or screw tech lore and codex (and some simple logic) - if you accept all of in-game content as headcanon - to have your reunion.

Two words - Jungle Planet (since EC - with another two words "evac naow!"). Remove former - and you don't need later...but noooo, BW chose to fix one plot& logic&characters hole with another one(plot&logic&characters&lore).

Not Kaidan related, but made me think about Bed Gamers United > THIS is how i play console video game.

http://derlaine.tumblr.com

@JosieFrances > there's no doubt in my mind that Kaidan & Shepard found each other again.
Oh yes, i wanted the game to tell me that, not Kaidanites and I trying to convince myself.

Terrible, painful things sometimes happen in real life and they can't be help.
Shepard was about making the impossible happen. AND this is video game.
The original ending gave me the same sinking feeling you have when you wake up in the morning from this dream you made in which some awful event was just a joke or make believe. So you wake up and reality dawns back upon you, and that's one of the worst feelings i have ever experienced.

@Nrieh > about Jungle Planet, that's the most ridiculous thing ever. It was clearly intented as some sort of New Eden Prime, with all the Jesus Christ / Shepard BS and so on, and now, with EC, all of a sudden, it's just this random planet where the Normandy makes a stop to refuel gas... Since this is so much nonsense anyway, i'm perfectly OK with plot gaps and absurdities, fortunately for me. I just assume narrative / metaphysical nonsense is OK, it makes me peaceful.

Bah... i knew going back there was useless, but if any newbie Kaidanite lurkers read from here that there are other people who feel the same, then at least it's something.
