@Nrieh > about Jungle Planet, that's the most ridiculous thing ever. It was clearly intented as some sort of New Eden Prime, with all the Jesus Christ / Shepard BS and so on, and now, with EC, all of a sudden, it's just this random planet where the Normandy makes a stop to refuel gas... Since this is so much nonsense anyway, i'm perfectly OK with plot gaps and absurdities, fortunately for me. I just assume narrative / metaphysical nonsense is OK, it makes me peaceful.
It's true. I mean, we see them leave so you could easily headcanon that they're home in a day or two. Heck, maybe even with enough time to find Shep in the rubble depending how injured she/he is. I'm glad they did that new scene, but it is kinda silly that the planet thing exists at all. I guess it was just an easy way to fix it without getting rid of it.

@Beep > yes, it IS ;P
@AshTheBrave > well yeah... makes you wonder why that puzzled / marveled look from Kaidan when he goes out of the Normandy... Not that i understood it pre-EC anyway
At least he looks hot as ever in there (sun frowning Kaidan is too lovely for words
It was just a recycling trick, but absolutely, it makes it easier to figure they leave on a search & rescue mission and find Shepard and all is well. At least that's the way i see it.

@Graceyn and other disappointed-of-the-ending sympathizers I definitely agree. While the EC does show a picture of "hope and triumph" for the galaxy, the whole ending just feels so...divorced from Shepard. Not to sound selfish or anything, but I played and got hooked to the series primarily because of the characters and the most primary of them all is that bull-headed Shepard--and when the Mass Effect stops being about Shepard so abruptly...well. Yes, I understand that they got things coming for them because of their survival of many impossible feats and that the universe doesn't conspire to what that someone wants no matter how hard they try, but leaving such a message for a series that used to be about "defeating the odds because that's what Shepard is" just evokes this feeling of...emptiness and nihilism that I'd never want to experience again. So Graceyn, thank you for not doing that and I definetely look forward to it.
As an aside, I wished the ending gameplay made full use of those friggin' war assets we took the time to gather and Shepard's leadership skills. It was done beautifully in ME2. I wished it became some sort of macro-scale ME2 suicide mission--Shepard ordering the fleets and ground forces to do certain strategic things (and maybe have consequences for bad assignments) ala Dragon Age: Origins and the suicide mission, while Shepard and Team Normandy kicks Reaper ass (and Harbringer boss battle arrrrrgggghhhh). This way, your assets are not just a number to get a slightly different cutscence, but something seen and worth it in actual gameplay. But bah...(lol never been this bitter about a videogame).
Absolutely this - now that they have reduced the Magic Number for the "best" ending there's even less of a challenge to get that ending if you've played through moderately well across the series with minimal losses. So really, they have four endings which is only one better than before, though the dialog with kid was much improved on the pathetic previous version.
But you're spot on @Graceyn about the dispair feelings - ME2 gave us awesome music and a sense of hope despite the fact that it was a suicide mission... And do you keep that base or give it to TIM? Who else thought that was a big decision? I got to the end of that game and felt elated, ready to start up another playthrough right from the beginning, because my Shep's stories were freaking awesome.
ME3 has some amazing moments - beautiful moments like Tuchanka, tear-jerking moments like Legion's sacrifice, but from London onwards it is just a bleak ugly mess of screaming banshee.
Anyhoo, have a Spectre Kaidan - one of the things ME3 got right!

I can't canon this EASILY (and to be honest I can't and won't headcanon this at all). Common sense - where were you when they wrote this??..It's true. I mean, we see them leave so you could easily headcanon that they're home in a day or two. Heck, maybe even with enough time to find Shep in the rubble depending how injured she/he is.
Let's assume (and we will be very optimistc here, by the way) that there's always a Jungle Planet when you need to crashland. Note to self - it's still uncharted. Local cluster has unknown double moon planet with life, water and plants and this planet is within one day of FTL from Earth.
They needed to make repairs and lift up. Forget that Normandy SR2 can NOT land on surface and fly within atmosphere same as shuttles and SR1 - that's codex and EA God forbit writers to read codex before writing. If it was just a minor problem - why landing at all? Joker needed bushes to pee? If it's not minor...ok, Adams is Engineering God (and they have Tali and Gabby), he can fix anything with a duct tape and omnitool. Within, let's say, 24 hours.
But here comes the biggest trouble. Memorial scene. They are safe and close to Earth, they are repairing reeeally fast. 2 days passed since beaming Shepard up.
Kaidan Alenko will:
a. Kick everyone so that they lift up and head to Earth ASAP to find what went on, and where is she, see her dead or alife
b.waste some time on ceremony holding her stupid nameplate with non existing rank "Commander" (and honoring magically confirmed Anderson's death , not to mention that they had to get those nameplates somewhere or make them)?
But...ok, it happened so, planet was close, repairs were quick, Norandy heads back to Earth. It's like 3 days total. Minimum. Should I remind anyone Shepard's state of health by the time of last explosion (not to say AFTER it)?..I really hope Hackett did not wait that long.
I honestly have no idea how to headcanon any of it. I can't think that they headed for Shepard, because I understand that Shepard (even Shepard!) will never make it that way, unless picked by another team asap...but then - why memorial scene (again!!!)? Anderson found dead, Shepard either found injured or still MIA.
/end of angry rant,
Sorry. I just hate it that they made me create my own ending. Because common sense could not accept what they offered. I'm happy with mine. But all the situation - is just stupid. And I never asked for reunion or rescue scene, I only wish they did not prevent me from headcanoning my reunion according to what they put in game, not against it.
ps: I actually know "why memorial scene", because ending movie timeline is one for all shepards, no matter alife or not. But that's metagaming excuse, it does not add in-game sense. Same as previous count of survivers by "1-2-3" (Joker, Joker+LI, Joker+LI+squad) depending on your numbers...

Champagne is awesome. Thanks for all the birthday wishes from the lovely people here - I knew none of you last year, I now check this forum many times a day and enjoy the daily banter and discussion - not sure what I'd do without this!
11 days til more Kaidan dialog! (28th, right?) I shall set the countdown clock!
I can't believe I missed your birthday! But now it's glorious Saturday so HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

But kidding aside, for the ending talk...it just wasn't Shepard-worthy to me. I finished ME1 and ME2 in an afterglow you feel after conquering some difficult work, like that urge of bringing out beer, dancing in the streets, hugging and crying...but ME3...

Heck, I was feeling more triumphant curing the genophage and saving both the geth and quarians. Yes, there were sacrifices, but it was triumphant all the same. ME3 was like
Edit: And yes as I stated before, I hate headcanon-ing for the sake of covering plotholes. The ending Shepard deserves shouldn't be forced to headcanon.
But anyway I come bearing gifts

Well then there you go, nothing to see here. Don't torture your brain with this.
Just one question: when do you see the "breathing" scene happening?
EDIT> i know you said you won't headcanon this, but just asking in theory.
Note > OF COURSE, Joker needs bushes to pee.
