And I really hope that my Venetia Shepard and Kaidan will have some of this moments in privacy

I have a hard time not seeing Kaidan's reaction completely in character. He believed Shepard (romanced or not) to be dead. The only "resurrection" in the ME universe that we are aware of, prior to the Lazarus project, is in the bible. As such, Shepard showing up, alive and very not dead on Horizon, would make the first leap of logic to suggest that Shepard faked their death two years ago, and then let the universe believe it. Add into the matter that Shepard is with Cerberus, a known terrorist group? And, I don't fault Kaidan one inch for (a) reacting the way he did, and (
He has literally come face to face with a person that until five minutes ago, he probably still believed in some respect was dead, despite the rumors. Because he would think that he knew Shepard well enough that Shepard wouldn't do that. And then to see the actual living, breathing person?
Now, I can explain why I think even Shepard's lines are perfectly IC as well, but they work for my character - mostly in the context of the romance. Most of it has to do with the fact that she honestly felt that Kaidan had been abducted when the Collectors took off. I, the player, might know better, but her honest reaction is to be completely flummoxed when she sees him because she thought he was gone and was desperately trying to keep from losing control. So all those "derpy" lines worked for me. I understand that it doesn't work for everyone, but I do my best to work with the tools that BW gives to me. I've played through Horizon enough to know how to make the dialogue flow best for each of my Shepards, regardless of romance status.

And I agree that Kaidan has the right of it, in his reaction....
I guess I see where you are coming from with Shepard, I still think relief would caused more than ''How you doing''? though

So what do you guys/gals think of Kaidan ranking higher than you now? My shep calls bs. That is a lot of ranks to climb in such a short time.

Two ranks isn't really a lot-- it's likely that he hopped a rank up from the whole bit with Saren and another rank could have been hopped up from something else entirely. (Or well, hell, Shep's death could have compelled Kaidan to throw himself into work to completely mute the pain.)

As for Kaidan going up in rank, I think it's entirely plausible for him to gain two ranks in that time period. Shepard comments about the amount of commendations Kaidan has in ME1, so I think chances are he was already being considered for Lt. Commander prior to the events of ME1, and like Kia stated, those events likely propelled him into that rank. And I also agree that Kaidan is the kind of person who likely worked through his grief, by burying himself in his job. (Especially since I suspect that Kaidan was likely doing quite a bit of work to prepare against the Reapers - as much as he could at least without getting locked up for being crazy.) And given his official status for ME3? That might have also been the catalyst for the second promotion.

Seriously, this has become such a cliché in Bioware games. I was so glad when Dragon Age (mostly) broke it, allowing the player to determine the speed and intensity of the romance's development at whatever plot-appropriate time we found fitting.Myaku1313 wrote...
Always! Just before you run off to commit suicide! O.o Why does shep only get Kaidan time just before impending doom of some kind.
Since ME3 gives us the challenge of starting a game with a certain level of intimacy pre-establish, I will be super-miffed if it just leads to a pre-final-mission love scene. We already had that. What the final chapter needs is evolution.

I didn't say I thought the lines were bad. I actually thought, given the fact she was being watched and probably recorded, they seemed on for someone trying to keep Kaidan as far off the Cerberus raidar as possible. The "Ashley" flip out concerned me though. Yes, she meant more to him than he apparently let on--had never said "I love you'. It is because of that I think they ca get past it. However, the email...My Shep can't decide if it really is from him or PsyOps. When she thinks its from him, it only sounds really good when she's drunk. Sober, it really upsets her.

I agree that he probably thru himself into work. Also the council sees Shepard working for a terrorist group. Given his commendations and loyalty the council needs someone to trust. They have no idea if Shepard has gone rouge. Who better to investigate? Obviously someone who served with her/him. I don't mind him being a higher rank. It will be nice to have someone else making some decisions so I won't be blamed for every action.
I think his SpecTre status and new rank was acheived investigating what Shep's been up to. (Maybe Anderson's last act has Councilor to try and clear the air for Shep.) And, somehow, finding it. Investigating Liara's "disappearance" would have turned up the armor with all its recorded telemetry "black box" info.

It's actually only TWO and it does happen. He was a Staff LT in ME1 and he's a Staff Commander now. The only intervening ranks are LtC (Shepard's rank) and Commander. Not too big a jump if Anderson/Udina's got him running errands for the Council.
However... doesn't mean I didn't have fun writing out how *I* thought they'd work it out.
