Loved it! I'm only part-way through my Garrus playthrough so I can't yet compare the two, but I do like how it's written. I have to say I'm rather tired of fighting Reapers, I guess that's partly from MP but Kaidan and Garrus kept trying to hug the Brutes. I need to remember how to order them around
I think it's a combination of standard Reaper forces and the fact that there really is nothing new or original in the encounter design. The "escort" mechanic (my god, are we playing single-player or multiplayer here?) just gets you to move—it doesn't add anything to the fights.
Bring Down the Sky added staged fights (Release the varren!) and the moving turrets. Overlord added some different combat elements for the Hammerhead, more staging (remember the elevator?), and explosives (I think they had one or two clever uses somewhere in there, although I'm finding it difficult to recall exactly what). LotSB added waves, environmental factors (the lightning towers... I can't remember if you could also blow them off the ship with biotics), and two unique boss fights.
Leviathan adds nothing new. Run and gun the same three enemies, exactly as every other standard fight in the game. The explosives they added aren't even that useful (it's just fun to set them off).
Squadmate dialogue is huge. It's the most important thing to me. But I still wish they could have included it in something that actually had unique and engaging gameplay (Leviathan would have been better with no combat at all than these bog-standard fights).
But I'm pleased. All I wanted was new squad content, and I got it. Now I just need to figure out the optimal squad loadout for each of the missions (I think I'm only going to take Javik to the final mission, so I need to figure out who to take for the first two).
