lololol killing time before ME3 (I suspect I'll end up beating /both/ DA games before ME3 even comes out) ... THEN AGAIN I COULD REPLAY KOTOR. Or ogle Kaidan a lot.

Dont ask me how i managed it, i honestly couldnt tell you. Im starting to think some people just shouldnt be allowed to mod. We are inferior and cack-handed, and random things happen. Like this
*snip*
I will have to agree with you there, I'm not brilliant with computers and if I tried to mod anything I probably wreck my game, saying that good job I play on the Xbox and not a computer.
Well at least I know what kaidan would look like with blond hair now.

Anyway, I'm abruptly de-lurking to see what people think of something I've been wondering about lately. Sorry if this is absurdly random, and sorrier if I'm about to open a can of worms...
So, did anyone else feel as if the surplus of biotics in ME2 kind of undermined Kaidan's role? They made a pretty big deal about his powers and how dangerous they were back in ME1. You could even go so far as to say that his main role was, if not The Love Interest or The Best Friend, it was The Psychic Guy. But in ME2, half the team had the same powers, which kind of cheapened it in my opinion. Isn't a stable human biotic supposed to be supremely rare, thus making Kaidan that much cooler of a character? Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but I feel like a character having biotic powers should always relate directly back to the story. For example, Kaidan (stable L2), Liara (asari), and Miranda (genetically modified, timeline issues nonwithstanding) are in the clear, but Jacob (just kinda has them) bothered me.
Note: My canon Shepard is a soldier. I've got nothing against bioticShep - on the contrary, I love biotic gameplay to bits and pieces - but for roleplaying/story purposes I always see her as Badass Normal. That probably puts my opinion into context.

I did not feel that the abundance of biotics undermined Kaidan. His story with biotics was specific to him and revolved around him being L2 - the early more unstable iteration of human biotics, in a time where biotics were more feared and misunderstood. The situation with Jump Zero can't really be mimicked.
I will say though - human biotics is no longer impressive. That is to say, if they introduced yet another human biotic to the team, it would not be inherently interesting anymore. So it didn't affect Kaidan, but it did affect the prospect of new human biotic squad members.

And I agree with you about more human biotics being uninteresting, but that's kind of my point. I thought human biotics were supposed to be a very recent development, so unless any new characters are, like, sixteen, then they should fall into or at least somewhere close to Kaidan's age group. Thus, they should also have a similar backstory to him. And we don't want that - part of his backstory was the emphasis on how unique it was.
Man, I'm being kind of a downer. So...hmm...did anyone see aimo's new drawing?

Oh, I forgot about Jack. Good point.

Entire situation with biotics in ME2 irritates me. Genetically engineered woman biotic, guy whose biotics are never explained, super human biotic, drell biotic, crazy powerful asari - or one really crazy ardath-yakshi... If Mordin would be biotic too, how several voice files indicate, I'd lol.Kyakan wrote...

To be honest, the situation with tech experts isn't much better. Miranda and Garrus are relatively mediocre at tech, as I assume, but then: master thief, genius salarian who can alone lead the insane number of reseaches, the tech expert who is highly appreciated even by own race of tech experts, and the AI.
That's the trick. Every one of this celebrities would be valuable and exceptional if only one person would have such traits, but when Normandy is that crowded... "Tali is illoyal so rendered useless on SM? No matter, we have two other tech experts".

I've heard that Bioware has you covered on that. "Smaller squad with deeper relationships" or something. That makes me a very happy camper.

The biotics after Kaidan's generation already had it better because they didn't have to go to BAaT and because medical advancement had progressed, the L3s are safer (though both Garrus and Wrex said it's ridiculous to trade power for comfort)
they had to include so many biotics to give players enough options, else they would complain that they're stuck with the same two characters if e.g. only Samara and Jack had biotics. And bigger squad thus means more biotics as well ... though personally I would have loved to see more aliens among the squaddies.
when working on MEC and putting together the list of squadmembers, I tried to give each race their fair share; but couple this with an even distribution of biotics to choose from and you end up giving biotics to non-asari species, who codex/canon-wise only have limited numbers of biotics to begin with, so it's always a stretch why 'all' the biotics seem to end up on your list of recruitable characters.
Also, was it any better in ME1? Half your team had biotic powers. Liara with her natural biotics aside you ran accross a krogan mercenary who happens to have biotics (though the krogan were apparently exposing pregnant women to get biotics prior to the genophage) and then you happen to have one of those super-rare human biotics on your team, too ... nu-huh
EDIT: also when I was just on the wikia's page for squadmembers, Jenkins was listed as temporary squadmember ... if that is an indicator as to what will happen to some of the characters that aren't confirmed as permament squaddies yet, there will be some anger spreading through the threads in march ...

Please let this be true. I thought the squad in Mass Effect 2 was a little too big (resulting in less deeper relations compared to Mass Effect 1). Garrus with his constant calibrating for example...I would absolutely love a smaller squad who has more interaction with Shep and with each other.

I also heard that the ME3 squad will be smaller than what we had in ME2, though I can't the quote that says that. I will keep trying to find it.
