I just get discouraged sometimes when I see it brought up as a supposed "paragon" option.

Did we all miss the conversation that just happened where our paragon ideals made us tell TIM that controlling the Reapers, even from a desire to expand and protect human interests in the galaxy, was utterly insane and hopelessly evil?

To me, control is the pinnacle of evil. Taking control of the Reapers thinking that you're the one to somehow control how the galaxy develops is megalomania, not beneficence. (And sooner or later, when the galaxy grows weary of being under the Shepard AI's thumb, they will rise up against it, and hopefully this time they'll just destroy it.)

I don't think of it as an ending.

It's merely something BioWare added to allow the player to opt out of making those ridiculous choices (it tries not to penalize you too much for doing so, at least overtly, but you don't really win the game this way).

Each ending appeals to every person differently. See with me? I have valid reasons why I decide to take any of the options at all. My Shepard's personalities dictate what options they'll take. My Fem!Shep, her intial ruthless incarnation would Destroy without a second though. After character Development, she may consider other options.

My Bro!Shep is an Earthborn, he's a solider but a leader and peace maker. He's more open to accepting the idea behind control and Synthesis. But he would never agree with the Illusive man's idea of lifting up just humanity and downcasting everyone else.

Depending on which Shepard I play as and how psychologically sound they are, that determines the ending I choose.

@Aurora313 Yup, same with my Sheps. It depends on them which ending they pick. My main paragon, paragrade and renegade pick destroy, my simulated Bioware "canon" paragrade Shep picks synthesis, my douche renegade picks control. But personally, I still loathe the endings (destroy is still the best option for me).
@devsin Haha yup, that's why I tend to forget it. It doesn't warrant space in my brain cells apparently

I never thought of it that way, I've always been selfish and choose destory I want my shepard to live lol....maybe if my lover wasn't Kaidan and I do try other LI but its not the same lol

Appearantly Shepard had a fair share of dealing with street gangs, I nearly fainted where I read somewhere on Wikia that you get paragon bonuses if you have a colonist background and renenede bonuses for earthborn background, but luckily I reached full paragon nonetheless

I only play paragons, and each playthrough is just a more refined version of the canon playthrough, I have never selected anything else except destroy :innocent: and my Shepard is always sound and calm

I don't think that Shepard really cares about his/her survival or returning to their lover by that point in the story. Its gives me the general impression that Shepard accepts what the Catalyst tells him/her simply because s/he wants the war - and by extention his/er pain and burdens - to be over. And given the with the injuries they have, Shepard's probably dying anyway - I don't think s/he believes that returning to the love interest is a very realistic possibility, thus writes it off completely.

@Jackie My Sheps never picked destroy for Kaidan, and went along with it with full acknowledgement of them dying. They didn't know they'd be alive by the end of their decision. I personally thought they'd die when I first played it with my canon though (silly me for believing that starbrat) . And it's all for the preservation of the galaxy, even if it meant losing everything they love and ultimately themselves in the end.

You shouldn't get discouraged because paragon is not "good". Don't let it mess with your head, dude. I hope it doesn't sound angry, I don't mean it that way. I just don't like someone feeling like paragon betrayed them or something. Ignore paragon and renegade. Go with your gut.

It's bioware showing you that it isn't good or evil. The choices just are. I know some people think I'm giving them too much credit but quite the opposite. It's just confusing. That's why they stuck TIM in Control and Anderson in Destroy. The options are not good and evil. Trust your instincts. It's better to see the choices without the paragon and renegade colored goggles. They don't mean anything.

And Dev, I always believed that Control ends up with the galaxy taking Shepard down. But that's just my headcanon. If someone wants to see it as benevolent Shepard forever, that's cool too. Why deny them? The game doesn't say:devil:








I'd also go for more banter from Kaidan than story stuff. It feels more interactive that way for sure. I hope bioware keeps up with the squad banter for the next DLC. Wasn't there a tweet somewhere that said they were focusing more on that since the ME2 DLCs didn't have much at all?

Also, yup that's why I don't consider control or any ending a "morality paragon renegade" choice in terms of color. And your speculations regarding the implications of control, brings up this BIG problem I have with the Leviathan DLC...but more on that later, after I finish my playthrough, which I seemed to stop doing lol.

Also, regarding your question I like squadmate banter better for Kaidan <3

My first play through of ME3 I choose control because my game glitched and I couldn't go back lol. However part of me thinks Synthesis is the best option; and I know shepard believes s/he will die however the paragon option for the last thing you said to Kaidan "....you better be there" makes me have a small tiny hope that I'll live and that is why my shepard chooses Destruction because there is hope that I will live "you will most likely die" and since ME3 is all about hope destruction is my hope choice.

Lol Jackie. I chose the wrong one the first time I played. I accidentally chose Synthesis because I was looking for the way to choose Destroy. I missed the fork in the road and was just walking. I was like, "where do I blow up the reapers?" Then Shepard went running towards the beam and the whole time I was yelling "go back!" And then Shepard melted and nothing's been the same since. It was very traumatic.

Hope in destroy is larger than just one's survival, it is also hope for galactic independence from the reapers, hope for peace, hope for freedom
