Just poking my head in to show some Kaidan support. Anyway, this is Erica who romance Kaidan in ME1 and stayed faithful to him in ME2. The story is that Erica started out in ME1 as sort of an Ashley lite. She, a renegade, was a bit leery of aliens at first, even had a powerful argument w/ Liara, and kind of kept her distance from the others. Over the course of the game, however, partially due to working a/ the aliens and listening to Kaidan she was won over and was a very different person by the end of the game. At this point I have to say, I love the combination of renegade femShep and paragon Kaidan. Erica did not change him one iota, though she did ask him to loosen up.

Come ME2 and she’s Kaidanless, which isn’t exactly a problem for her other than the fact that she misses him being around, but he kind of became her moral compass. So many of the decisions I made for her, were in the line of, “what would Kaidan do?” Sometimes she would heed the advice; sometimes she would do it her way, whatever felt right. After Horizon Erica was ready to spit nails. At first she was just sort of numb, and then she got angry. She was so angry that she tried to cheat on Kaidan. I’ve done two playthroughs w/ her, so once w/ Garrus and once w/ Thane. But she just couldn’t do it. It felt wrong. Yeah, she’s going to kick his ass come ME3, but then she’s going to get over it and things will go back to normal.

Just thought I would share that.

I've been replaying ME2 and noticed something about Kaidan Alenko, but haven't found an answer for it so far. I guess here I'll find the answers, if there are any.

During the Horizon mission, Kaidan Alenko gets attacked/stung by the seeker swarm and freezes/becomes paralysed.

1) Why wasn't he taken on the Collectorship too, like most others?
2) How was he able to show up, after being frozen/paralised, a bit later to chat with Shepard?

Did I miss it ingame/does anyone know why?!

Or is it just asumed, because Team Shepard showed up, the collectors couldn't pack/grab all people and the effect of the seeker swarm sting only lasts for a while, then goes away?

They missed grabbing half or a third of the colony according to who makes the estimate. Kaidan was one of the people they didn't manage to grab (ignoring that according to tIM, they were looking for him specifically).

Most people assume the paralysis was somehow controlled by the Collector ship, and wore off when they left.

Yeah but then there other colonists still left in stasis. Kaidan had to have broken it somehow. Biotics?

"Because Mac Walters says so."  :P

Ashley broke out, too, remember.

(... do you actually see anyone else after the ship leaves?  I don't remember any in the square around the gun and just because they aren't running towards you doesn't necessarily mean they aren't there.)

Ohhh, true. Yeah, I was thinking of everyone you see in stasis before you talk to Kaidan/Ashley. And I always forget Ashley is alive too..... :pinched:

Thanks for sharing Erica, I like your backstory a lot!  My own Shepard is very paragon yet flawed, and I really enjoy reading about other people's Shepards who are more renegade and make different choices than I would.  I also love "friction" relationships, so I like the idea of a renegade Shepard paired with the more strait-laced Kaidan.  It's part of why I like the rivalry system in DA2, it would be awesome to see something like that in ME3 (although I know it's not happening).

I think the "cheating" thing was how I felt with my main Shepard, I have to admit that, when I first saw Horizon from the POV of a romanced Shepard/Kaidan, I was horrified.  Tali and Garrus had no problem with joining the team, but my Shepard's LI wouldn't?  So I was ready to move on with someone else.  It wasn't until I was half way through the game that I realized that it just didn't make sense for this character, and even if she and Kaidan are done for good, she needed to be alone during ME2, so that she could have some resolution with Kaidan later on.

Yay for resolutions, good or bad (I vote good, personally).

If there had been a captive audience, tomatoes and cabbage would have been thrown at Kaidan and Shepard.

True that.  In fact, I can almost envision a theatre full of viewers, watching Horizon play out on the big screen; when Kaidan and Shepard hug, there is applause all around, then the conversation takes a....more unpleasant.... turn, and the boooos start, followed by the hurling of food products at the screen as the conversation descends into utter lameness and stupidity.  That's just awesome :).

After reading some good analyses of the VS stasis "situation", I'm okay with Kaidan having broken out of stasis.  (1) We don't see any colonists remaining in stasis after the ship leaves (granted, we don't see any others breaking out of it either) and (2) it is reasonable to assume that either (a) the stasis lasts a limited period of time or (B) it is tied to some technology on the Collector ship or to proximity of the swarms/ship.  The Collectors definitely had to leave before collecting everyone they wanted; I belive Shepard refers to "half the colony" being abducted, so it is not unreasonable for the VS to be in the other half.

And I just love that .gif.  I don't know why, really, but I love it!

Since I hated Genesis, I think I will probably just end up playing ME and ME2 twice more to end up with all the possibilities I want. Which will give me....five characters total. Does that sound like enough to cover a nice range of choices?

I'm eleven hours late though as the saying goes "better late than never" so get well soon Bekkael.:)

Genesis a waste of money in my eyes and five characters in total I think so as long as they have different decisions.

TY! I am feeling much better today.

I agreee Genesis is garbage. The ONLY reason I am using it, is to get a save where Ash is alive. I literally can not do a ME1 playthrough and let Kaidan die. I can't. Impossible. I somehow managed to make a new Shep today (by using crappy Genesis) that saved Ash and romanced nobody. It was tough, cause when I got to the quest with the Normandy crash site, they flashed up Kaidan's picture. :crying: I seriously teared up. What kind of sap am I? He's alive in five other saves....

NamiraWilhelm, I would certainly buy that shirt! Yes, please. :o

AdmiralCheez, I seriously busted a gut at those "moves".

My man just now started a save for ME2 for the first time. I'm so proud. *sniff* :P

@Akodo its a random fan shirt by me, it'd never see the light of day, no need to be mean about it!

thanks Bekk :D

Kaidan is the true biotic god in my eyes, that Volus is to Kaidan what Conrad is to us.

Even with Gensis my controller deviates to "Save Kaidan" It's like something takes over me!

I think the only way I'll ever have Ashley is either through Genesis, getting my sister to stop me clicking Kaidan or using a ME3 choice at the beginning. I'm so Kaidan obsessed.

I'm currently doing a no-romance playthrough from ME1-ME2 I'm just not going to talk to Kaidan, only way it's going to happen I think. Or I'll cave and use Genesis, I'm always worried about lack of cameos and things when using it, but I suppose it wont be game breaking and I already have one canon save and a backup one who is going to "cheat" on Kaidan but only when I know the "consequences" in ME3, I'm such a scaredy cat!

...If stasis on Horizon won't go off by itself, I'd like to see how Council would dismiss paralyzed forever half of colony as "slaver attack". Slavers have the technology you haven't got? Sorry, scaly political asses, but you're lamers.

Ahh, some questions are can of worms. And thanks for several writers, there are questions which are canon of worms.

The only thing that really bugs me (hehe, pun) about horizon, is that Lilith, who hit the ground about 20m behind kaidan, obviously got abducted, but Kaidan didn't. It doesn't add up for me and I actually hope this is going to be explained in me3, though I sincerely doubt that. I figure it was just so that the VS survives. Period. No explanation necessary! D:

On a different note, someone mentioned a couple pages back that it would matter, how we "shaped" the VS in me1. I'm pondering whether "renegading" Kaidan will have any effect. So I'm thinking about a new playthrough...

...anyone thinking it'll be worth it? oo (well, aside from the obvious benefits of a kaidan-romance playthrough...)

Since my mind-canon says that Kaidan is always the one on Horizon (sorry Ash, I love you to bits and pieces, but unfortunately you're not voiced by Raphael Sbarge), I like to think that the Collectors' paralysis wears off quicker when it's used on biotics. Makes sense IMO because a) during the Long Walk, you see that the seeker swarms are weak against biotic powers, and B) biotics are, like, acutely aware of their nervous system, right? Paralysis in the nervous system + science fiction + ??? = profit.

But since not everyone's mind-canon puts Kaidan on Horizon, you could always just say that the VS was captured, but managed to fight his/her way out of the ship off-screen. That might explain why they were so close to the ship's takeoff point.

Huh, that sounds quite good, the most people that were taken were always civilians right? the couple soldiers posted on those colonies probably weren't the best ones at their jobs.
Then again neither Ash nor Kaidan sound or look like they'd just fought for their lives.

Well, the Collectors were retreating, so Kaidan/Ash's conversation with Shepard didn't necessarily have to be ten seconds out of the fray. Maybe they had a few minutes to catch their breath or something. Or maybe Kaidan's just that badass.

Edit:
Ahh, TOP!
Stole this from someone on the thread, I forget who...
