The first avatar can take anywhere between 1 min and 2 days to show up.

Yes it does, but you can check on the Dragon Age profile to see if your character files (Player Profile Diagnostics under Dragon Age Online Profiles)have been uploaded.

You don't have DA:O installed?  That's really all you need and the avatar pic but Thin already did that for ya.
