Well, Found something interesting.

So, You know that scene after the Cerberus Mission with Jacob where Kaidan is all "Those were good people right?" Well, I always thought the "Are you flirting with me?" "If you have to ask, I'm out of practice. Later, you'll have to let me practice line" scene was always romance spesific.

Apparently it isn't. After 3 playthroughs, I finall got this scene AFTER I locked in with Miranda. I was laughing my ass off for some reason.

Probably the sudden head turn Shepard gives after "You'll have to let me practice". XD

It's not romance specific, but it's only supposed to play if you're still available for romance (there's an alternate greeting for when you're not).

Maybe Miranda doesn't have TrueLove, or maybe it's not where you think it is? Otherwise, it sounds more like a bug (wouldn't be the first Kaidan bug, sadly). (I know it works correctly for at least some of the squad romances.)

Interesting. I had actually just locked in pre-Cerberus Mission and had the dinner with Kaidan just after locking in (I go to all coversations after locking in). Right after the crew quarters dialogue, Kaidan also talked about having steak on the Citadel.

"Kaidan, I though we already had steak."

"THERE IS NEVER NO TIME FOR A GOOD STEAK AND LAGER SHEPARD!"

Yep. I always wait till I can lock in with Miranda before going to any of the other lock-in conversations (Kaidan, Steve, Kelly, Liara) and get them all done in one quick swoop.

I'd chalk it up to a glitch.

Alternatively, you can complete the mission first, ignore Kaidan when he asks you to go to the crew's quarters, then travel to citadel to have the date and then come back on the ship and chat about Cerberus...

IIRC, the only romance-specific dialogue (that requires you to be locked into his romance) in the main game is the remark after the Rannoch mission (that one checks if the rescue mission was the last to be completed and if you're locked into his romance). (Leviathan adds several romance-specific lines as well.)

??? okay maybe there is something wrong with my game file, cos I have been trying to get that line for some time, and only had it after I romanced him... I always take it as romance-specific because it would be strange for mShep to say that line to Kaidan without romancing him... hmm, maybe not so strange if they intended that line as a joke

But I do understand you saying that line acts like a reminder to activating a romance with Kaidan, I think the implementation of that line is either overlooked by BW or it was intended to be incredibly subtle

Just got home from school~ Thank you for your "get well soon" greetings last night. Sorry I wasn't able to reply; fell asleep lol. I'm feeling much better today (got a mild cold though). Regarding the "are you flirting with me" line thing...I only managed to get it after I locked-in romanced Kaidan. My Garrus-mancing Shep never got it. As for inviting you to steak sandwiches after the Ex-Cerberus Scientists mission, you always get that banter even if you've had dinner with him in the Citadel already or not.

for the Kaidan banter + steak date: I also got it after my 2nd playthrough. As for the date, I had an instance where i was invited (but couldn't' lock the romance in) before the ex-cerberus mission. So I am not sure if you can go on 2 steak dinner dates with Kaidan.

Same here, I assumed that line serves as an acknowledgement of a relationship and an exhibition of intimacy... I am asssuming that line is character-specific because I never romanced anyone else and would not know the differing purpose of it in other romances  , the key to get that line is to romance him before the lengthy Cerberus conversation

I love all the pictures today and in playing KOTOR 2 I realized one thing Bioware really does hate those in relationship. If you romance Carth (almost called him Kaidan) in KOTOR 1; when you meet him in 2 he asks about his love (mind you in KOTOR 2 you're an exile not the same character) saying he is waiting for her....so makes me wonder will Kaidan wait for Shepard? He didn't in ME2 remember he went on a date lol!


Just made me a little sad that Bioware gives you this great story and you become really invested and love these characters and their relationship only to have it destroyed for the "great good" lol

or I'm nuts and over tired with that good night everyone!

I wouldn't blame Kaidan for going on dates and ete. You sort of died. If he didn't move on, I'd be worried.

To be fair, Kaiden watched Shep die and it took more then a year for Alenko to get over that pain. Speaking as one who lost a significant other, you can't keep wallow in the pain of loss forever, it'll drive you crazy. At some point It changes from "god I wish they hadn't died" and "I wish I'd died with them" to "wow he/she would have like this" or "he/she would have been intrigued by that".

Well, my Shep didn't die in ME3, so hopefully, they would be reunited soon. I really wish Bioware would release a patch specifically for the aftermatch. In the Destroy ending, Shep is still alive, so there's a chance for them to be together again.
