The third one would be my first Mass Effect game. I kinda skip over the first two games because I kinda find it unfair you can't pursue a gay relationship like with Dragon Age. Also, having Kaidan around and can't be romanced would be such a tease. I did play the other two at my friends' house though.

This is really bothering me now. I thought for sure it wasn't a romance specific line (aren't there even people here who do it before the date specifically because they think it works better with his "steak" line)?

I could've sworn it was the same as the hospital "flirting" line (you just need the romance to be active instead of needing TrueLove).

Maybe I'm misremembering? Oh, well. I don't have ME3 installed to look at it anyway. (And I always do the date first in my playthroughs, so not really that important to me.)

@devsin I usually do the citadel dates before the ex-cerberus scientists mission, so maybe that's a factor? Even then, my douche Shep turned down Kaidan and then answered Garrus than leaving Kaidan for later to get his friendship lines...so maybe that's a factor too? :'D

Edit: Theory time: (Disclaimer: I don't hate Miri, I LOVE HER!!!) Maybe Mirimancers get the "are you flirting" line too because the game seems to think the player is available for Kaidan--because the game doesn't consider Miri as a "main romance" (dodges arrows). I would have loved an actual Miri romance in ME3 though; would've made another M!Shep for her <_<

Also lookey lookey someone got the floating Kaidan bug in that 3rd Leviathan mission like I did (with special participation from Vega lol); I'm not alone :'D

You know that scene after the Cerberus Mission with Jacob where Kaidan is all "Those were good people right?" Well, I always thought the "Are you flirting with me?" "If you have to ask, I'm out of practice. Later, you'll have to let me practice line" scene was always romance spesific.

Ok, ok, that was sarcasm. And as for that line - I had it before locking up in ME3 (but staying fathful since ME1 - not sure if it matters). Other than dinner, quick drink and goodby - only true "romance specific" thing I know is "next time wake me" banter. I do not consider DLCs (and EC is also a DLC).  

Maybe Mirimancers get the "are you flirting" line too because the game seems to think the player is available for Kaidan--because the game doesn't consider Miri as a "main romance" (dodges arrows).

If I'm remembering right, there should be two states: inactive, and TrueLove. When you commit to somebody, they're TrueLove, and everybody else is made inactive (except Diana, and possibly Kelly). And apparently there are other conditions for whether a particular romance is still active (like people say choosing all "renegade" responses with Kaidan can kill his romance early; there's also gender of course, and import-only options default to inactive).

The "wake me up" line is TrueLove. But I thought the flirting was simply a check to make sure it wasn't inactive (so it would happen for both the active romance and for TrueLove), and I thought I even checked it in the past (I wanted to see what lines were actually meant for the romance and which were static).

If you already turned Kaidan down or did something else to make him ineligible for romance, then it definitely shouldn't play. But I guess the question is whether it requires TrueLove or just requires an active romance (I've never tried importing a character with a previous romance, so maybe that does something as well).

@devsin It's forever a mystery then :'D Can't have the heart to romance any other option anymore to test...even if Garrus' was fun, I sorely missed Kaidan (yeaaaaaah, I'm that sensitive for him). In fact, I seem to not have the heart to play any more ME3 these days...lol (my poor other playthroughs).

Ahah, yes - although I think the lines are exactly the same for Ash or Kaidan. Or maybe not all of it, i don't know. Ash also says "Don't Ash me!", which was a bit disappointing at first, but then it fits her relationship with Shepard and her character well too.

Yeah, the conditional is a lot more complex than I thought.

I don't know what all those flags are (I know some are TrueLove for the other romances), but it's either that whole list of plot flags needs to be false and Kaidan's "points" need to be at least 10 (I *think* 10321 stores the points for how much Kaidan likes you—it's used in other conditionals for him) OR you need TrueLove (19723 is Kaidan's TrueLove).

So the easiest way to get it is to have TrueLove (i.e., after the date), but it still should be possible if you have a strong enough relationship with him and all that other crap is false.

In contrast, the conditional for "wake me" is relatively brief (you just need TrueLove):

@devsin Mind went blank for a sec there...very complicated indeed  Also yup, maybe that's why Mirimancers and other sidelined romances still get the "are you flirting" lines from him--the "programming" of the main romances are already complicated enough...

Now that I'm looking, it appears "You're real enough for me." on Mars is also supposed to be a romance line for new players (but it'll just play for almost everybody, due to the way the game is set up). It's set up to only run if he likes you and you're not locked into another romance. (I think I've had him say it to me in the game before.)

Also, it looks like you need at least 6 points to get the date (there's a bunch of other flags that need to be false, presumably all the relationship flags for other characters). If you don't have a strong enough relationship with him or you have a romance with somebody else, you go straight to his friendship lunch.

@devsin real enough for me in Mars or Cerb Headquarters? If it's in Mars (the husky Cerb trooper was what you were referring to, I think?), I do seem to recall it being different with my non-import Shep...don't remember how though

All the main romances (the squad and Steve and Sam) have their own TrueLove (LiaraTrueLove, GarrusTrueLove, etc.). Only one of them should ever be set.

Ach, you're right.

So that's also a romance line in the main game. (The fourth and final one, outside of the date and sex scenes, it looks like.)

So there's the flirting in the hospital, the flirting after Jacob's mission, "wake me up", and this line on Cronos.

Why only new? It is romance-specific for import as well. And it's Cronos, as was already mentioned. I forgot about it, yeah - second romance-specific line. through the game.

Interesting. What is pass check for Coup? I think I've seen score list somewhere, but I can't remember. I thought it's impossible to pass Coup check AND stay out of high score. Unless there is some way to loose score after passing check (I wonder where - you have only Normandy talk).
