@Laika: to keep him alive, lets say...he will send you emails regularly, but if you bring him to missions, it would be inevitable that he dies, but if he is right next to Hackett, well, odds of survival greatly increased, although I think both Shepard and Kaidan would hate such an arrangement

Such an option (sending him to Hackett) is given to players who don't like Kaidan, which I have no idea why, since they saved him on Virmire in the first place, maybe this acts as some kind of payback for what happened on Horizon?

Well you have to save somebody on Virmire. Maybe some people didn't like either of them? Seems silly really. I mean, we don't get the option to send away or kill anyone else do we? Or I guess ME2 was pretty much just this.

I hear you, leaving Kaidan to Hackett just because you don't "like" him, there's no logic in that.

Agree with Ash, it'd be hard not to have him on the Normandy but if there was a post-game payoff...    hard but I'd do it at least once.

Actually, i've seen some comments like this, people who just couldn't care for either of them, they usually hate Ash cause she's a racist, and/or keep Kaidan cause he's more useful as a squadmate > usually their romanced Liara. But yeah, i never understood WHY they had to add an extra opportunity at killing them.
I always take it as the promised "reward" for staying faithful

Keep Kaidan with you... and then mod the game just before the ending to get the perfect ending nevertheless

I've actually never done it. I love him on the team too much. I have kinetic and it's just really fun yelling "Kaidan reave!" Saw it on youtube though.

He won't find you in the "breath" scene as it is now.  I don't need to send him to Hackett to know that, if it wsa in game, we'd know.  Interesting head-canon and fan-fic idea though.

One of my PTs was "friendship"  as I romanced Steve on that one.  The rest are all Kaidan romance PTs... who could resist that smile?

About sending Kaidan to Hackett, I tried it...but after a while I reloaded a save with no regrets, much like what I did with the Virmire decision. I just need him...gamplay-wise too (support meh!).
