I chose for destruction and was justified by my romance.
Honestly, that BW confession puzzles me cause as a player i just choose whatever i want to choose and i can't see how it is a problem for anybody
On my very first PT, I knew that Anderson's path was probably my Shep's.
Before making that choice, i spoiled myself cause i knew vaguely about the breathing part.
It just confirmed my choice. Actually i didn't get the breath anyway
I remember people here calling that an epic fail > choosing because of Kaidan but ending up dead anyway.

It's not that huge a difference, I don't think (also, the variables lists seem to be huge arrays of different data types, so they're probably free to use as many as they need). One is probably a measure of affection, while the second is more a measure of trust.Nrieh wrote...
Not same?? You mean "coup trust" counts separately from "affection"?? Wow, that means extra variables...And Coding God forbids to make extra variables unless really necessary! 8P
I'm charmed by BW logic. Throw out and cut off all sorts of things for sake of simplifying and resource economy, but write multilayered logic for killing (or keeping alive) Kaidan Alenko...
I'm assuming the first one is influenced more by buying him gifts and being nice to and supporting him, while the second is more limited (did you import a romance, were you faithful if you did, did you fight him on Mars, did you manage to save the salarian councilor, etc.).
They simply did not have time.Mimitochan wrote...
The fact that there is a specific event or set of events that determines a boolean value (i.e. referred to as TrueLove here by Laika). Of course, it's easier said than done, but why would the fact that you're actually romancing one character would cause other characters to behave differently towards your Shep?
We can all say how it would have been wonderful to have more nuanced relationships, but the fact is that they were intending to make the game in under two years (and they failed, even with all the time-saving decisions).
I wouldn't necessarily say this is true. It's simply that the conversation is far more complex. It has to track all the possibilities for that scene, handle both Ashley and Kaidan, and has a bunch of options for varying levels of trust.Mimitochan wrote...
As you said, the Coup logic seems to be a lot more sophisticated, I just wished the romance logic had been as elaborate.
The logic for the relationships doesn't need overly-complex conversations—you either meet the requirement or you don't. (Plus, it plays out over several conversations, some of which don't require a romance but which do increase his affection for you—the coup is a one-time deal.)

Mimi, I think the "epic fail" people were referring to was on BW's part, not the players. Maybe that is me projecting, even with the EC, "epic fail" is still my feeling.
Oh, forgot to mention, when i said "here", it was on the BSN, not from this thread. Somebody answered this to my post at that time >
I guess some of this is true but I don't really careSo you murdered the Geth in an attempt to save yourself (ostensibly to make sexy-time with Kaiden) but ended up dying anyway. Fail

Eh, one can never have too high expectations when it comes to romancing Kaidan
What really bothers me is the "lock" feature > i would find it more natural and more immersive to just have an overall romance score all the time that would determine if certain options are available or not to the player; such a during the Coup, rather than having some sort of romance "commitment" (boolean = true) that is irreversible > once Kaidan is locked you can be all Renegade you want with him (not that you have that many opportunities to do so). I would have found it more interesting and realistic that the relationship keeps evolving no matter what, and this would not have needed complex programming or intricate trees.
For instance, what i would have really liked would have been LI to have more memories on events or missions he shared with Shep, or more specific romance banter when paired with another squadmate and so on.
This is not really programming but rather budget wise, for writers and voice actors mainly (which are linked on the overall project, of course).
But i wouldn't want this to become a dating sim either. What they did for Leviathan for instance exceeded a lot of my expectations, so it prooves that i's possible without moving too faraway from the usual developing path.
