I don't think it's that they knew each other before (even though I imagine that in some of my playthroughs) but more to do with the role that Kaidan has on the Normandy. He's Staff Lt., which is why if Shepard says only he and Kaidan will handle things, after meeting Ashley, Kaidan speaks up encouraging his commander to allow her to join them. As a Staff Lt. Kaidan is responsible for those immediately below him and he handles things so that the higher ups can focus on more command decisions instead of all the little every day things. So Shepard listening to the advice of the one who leads those below them is the smart thing to do. I do believe they have been on the ship for a while and if I had to guess Kaidan was as shocked by Shepard punching out the assistant as the two ladies. He, Kaidan, won't hesitate to give you an earful if you give him the chance. That's the fun that is Kaidan.

Interesting explanation, I hadn't thought about that and I like it!
To be honest (and I'm a little ashamed about that ), I never searched what Staff Lt. really meant, I mean even if I understand the word in French, I hadn't figured out what it could correspond to in terms of military tasks / role / rank. It's a pity, cause I find all the military lore from the game very interesting, so thanks for the highlight!
And of course, always loved that "That... might have been a little extreme, Commander." thing.

For the uninitiated...Captain Malcolm Reynolds, Zoe, Jayne and Simon Tam are characters from the most awesomely epic space western TV series, Firefly. Seriously, you should watch this. There was only one season, 13 episodes. Zoe and Shepard would totally be BFFs.

10th Doctor is the 10th incarnation of Doctor Who, as played by David Tennant. He's handy with a sonic screwdriver, what can I say?

How can it be different if it is codexed that he was aboard before Anderson picks up Shepard? Anderson, Kaidan, Joker and Chalkwas meet Lt.Cmdr. Shepard before player does. What kind of relations was it and how long did it last, however, we do not know. It can be few days bfore Eden Prime mission as well as several months. They could barely noticed each other or become kinda friends. Headcanons for everyone! 8)

I'd think about something like few weeks - one month term, and though I don't think there were any romance hints at that period, but they had to get ready for Eden Prime mission, so some collaboration was needed. And also Shepard needed some time as XO before geting ship under command. I doubt Anderson'd agree to step back if he did not see Shepard capable and more or less experienced (and also - familiar with all the crew and some routine). So I doubt Shepard stepped aboard first time night before Eden Prime.

it's not a big problem to make proper icing and cupcakes, but you need to make stencils yourself first(unless you're very good at drawing).
