Shepard has a Hampster in a tank/cage in his/her cabin so I see that as Kaidan showing love to Shepard's Hampster.

That's weird... Shepard gets the same animations no matter the gender, maybe it's less visible on female Shepard? I should check that out, but I like the smirking thing

About the hamster > absolutely!  I totally forgot about Space Hamster cause by Shepard never bought one

If you bought the Hampster in ME2, it's on the Normandy.  You have to catch it, it's in Jack's sub-basement.  You'll hear it.

If you're on PC you can also just Gib it.  

If you watch for a few you can see the path the hamster takes and find a spot to catch it.
