I can't be the only Kaidanite procrastinating around. Here's some smoldering angst-filled Alenko.

Much obliged. Started the NG+ with beardy Kaidan mod. gorramn... there goes productivity for the next several days. But I didn't like the look during Citadel confrontation.... will replay again with Dangerous Kaidan mod and we'll see how this turns out.

The few playthroughs I've had Kaidan in ME3, I liked his scenes. Talking to him after getting back on the Normandy about his parents and again after rescuing the ex-Cerberus scientists. He also holds his own on missions.

Yay, this topic is revived! I'm doing another playthrough of my completed ME3 saves and I was considering romancing Liara this time. I never even knew you could romance her in ME3 before because I always spoke to Kaidan first on the Citadel lol.

But then my Shep ogled his rear end and I just don't know if I can deny her. Even if it's slightly flatter than it was in ME2.

I still can't find myself sacrificing him for Ash in ME1. I tried but... its REALLY hard to sacrifice the only Sentinel in ME1 and ME3. I kept thinking Shepard's life would be much harder without Kaidan around. James in ME3 was an obvious replacement for Ash so I didn't lose much (except for Marksman bonus power). I tried Miranda and Kaidan combo for Unusual Scores and Spectre + Insanity and babes, they simply kills everything that move. Multiple biotic and tech explosions on enemy boss convention. Can't get enough of that.

He has a lot more banter and scenes during missions if you bring him everywhere. I particularly like the way he kept staring at Shepard from ME1 to ME3 like he's a personal bodyguard or something. But I like most how the romance plays out with my C/SS Shepard. Both tragic figures themselves and victims of circumstances. Both angry at the world and emotionally scarred. She kept it together by being the hardened terminator and he keep it together by being a good soldier. In a way, they mirrored each other well with their personalities (she's the other half of his soul, he's her chance at normality and happiness) and they're more than evenly match in combat (especially with Infiltrator/Vanguard Shep). Every biotic/tech explosions they made was an affirmation of their love. Beautiful.

Me and Shepard have flat ass too. No problemo.

Bearded Kaidan is really something!

To be honest, I never have any intention of saving Ashley at some point. I like to try and do different things, but this is probably something I could never do  Good thing there's Youtube for Ash related scenes.

I fell in love with Kaidan's character in ME1 already, but since I usually play male characters whenever I can, romance needed to wait a bit ;) But I really liked how Kaidan was always someone Shepard could confide in, Shep trusts him. It's such a good chemistry between those two, no matter if friendship arc or romance. I'm not sure why many people say Kaidan's boring, I simply can't see it that way. He's pretty much the only one who doesn't have major issues, and if, he moved one from those. And his integrity thing is great. The guy's got backbone.

I will finish my current Engineer MShep on ME2 and 3, and I already have created another one, my first FemShep to romance him in ME1 too.

I find its weird that people kept trying to convince me that Kaidan is boring. But they usually rant about his "cutting corner" talk in ME1 which is just a small back story about his time with BAat and apparently that's enough for them to decide his characterization. He does have a lot of issues too but the game doesn't convey his personal story really well.

When Kaidan says everyone in the universe see human biotics as freaks, we didn't really see it that way because the game tone down the human biotic issue (since maybe its a problem for everyone to react differently to Shepard as biotic than as a non-biotic. Fortunately, we could see this happening in Dragon Age 2 with non-mage vs mage Hawke). In reality, being a biotic is really like being a blood mage in Dragon Age trilogy. BAat/Pragia/Ascension Project is the Circle of Magi. Biotics and Mages suffered the same prejudice too. When he says, "You made me feel human," its completely like Anders... of course, Anders went baloney.

Mass Effect Ascension is probably the best representation of how human biotics was seen in the ME verse according to Drew Karpyshyn. Besides, Handel Mitra was really a version of Kaidan. Unfortunately, since Kaidan is an optional character in the game, its hard to expand on this side of his story since it affected Ashley as well.

Of course, there's always fanfiction option.

Yes, it's true that the game toned down the "biotic freaks" issue, in fact I hadn't even thought about the parallels between them and Blood Mages in DA because I hadn't perceived the biotics issue as that bad.

I'm still a newbie when it comes to ME and it took some time to actually get really into it (not too keen on sci-fi usually :D), and haven't read any of the additional books or comics yet, but that will change soon. The first book is already on my shelf and I will soon read it. Plus I made a list what I still need to buy.

Ah true, didn't you at some point write in the What did you do in ME today thread that you're writing Shenko fics? Do you have any uploaded somewhere? I will probably not have much to do at work next week

I haven't played much scifi RPG before (the last time, I think it was Final Fantasy 8) but I've always been a scifi fan. I start playing Mass Effect trilogy last november when my PC can't render Dragon Age Inquisition right. And nobody told me that you can customize Shepard like the main characters in Dragon Age. grrr...

A while ago, I was halfway through DA2 and I found a lot of similarities between Hawke and Shepard. I created another playthrough with the intention of it being my canon Shepard. Then the writing bug start to set in (I was actually in the middle of writing an Urban Fantasy around dystopia Kuala Lumpur.. oh well, let that sit for a while..) Its around 39k right now but I'm trying to add another 50k with Camp Nano. Its a Mass Effect-Dragon Age 2 mesh with a bit Battlestar Galactica in it. I will try to publish it soon once I smooth out the story structure and the timeline. Its a dual narrative between Shepard and Kaidan and there's a lot of flashbacks with the events in ME1 and ME2.

Revka Shepard is based around FemHawke and Bethany Hawke (Warden). And yes, she has a twin brother. There's a Mass Effect version of Carver Hawke in my canon. Because evil clone isn't enough. Kaidan reminds me of Cullen, Hardened Alistair and a bit of Anders... I'll try to keep it from being too Fenris-angsty.

Yeah, it could've been Kaidan who watched the special training session :D I also thought their content was too short, but then it's probably because as a Kaidan fan, there can never be enough Kaidan scenes.

Great gifs again, your FemShep looks really pretty! The last gif warms my heart :) And the kissing looks actually good, not like in Inquisition.

I'm looking forward to experience Kaidan's romance in ME1 with my next Trilogy run as FemShep. Just not sure yet if I'll romance him fully through, let's see!

except that in DA, you can kiss Cullen/Alistair whenever you want. Btw, I never realize that Kaidan really love to touch Shepard when he's getting frisky.

I've done several different femsheps before but this got to be the closest one who kinda looks like me (prettier version of course... shamelessly). Then again, its hard to make an Asian Shepard to begin with.

I might redo another ME3 new game and replay some ME1 saves just to make more Kaidan gifs. Tumblr people really love the earlier ones I made. Apparently, I caught the gif making bug. I'm blaming my sister for this.

I didn't realize his hand was shaking when he had his gun on Shepard. But since this is my proper Renegon playthrough, I'm glad the renegade dialogue option didn't cancel out the auto-trust thing. I really like Raphael saying "put the gun away" like he really mean it. And Garrus wanting to shoot him but Shepard stare him down until he relaxed. Made more sense with the subsequent dialogues anyway.

I realized that a lot of folks were turned off by him arguing with Shepard (especially in ME2) but I really like it since conflict made their relationship realistic and him being less too agreeable.

Nice find with the shaking! I loved that confrontation so much, I was at the edge of my seat during that.

Raphael does a great job in general, I'm a big fan of his acting.

I also felt the arguing from ME2 on was very natural, they're both right and wrong, both accuse each other without really understanding the circumstances, that's what people do a lot.

Kaidan is right in not trusting Shepard with Cerberus involvement from his standpoint, as he was kept way too long in the dark, so how else would he react? And given what we've seen Cerberus do in ME1, he can't be sure Shepard is not controlled by them, especially since the resurrection. And he's not that far off actually, Miranda does admit she was playing with the idea of implanting a control chip.

I partly blame Shepard for this whole scenario though. How hard could it have been to let him know he/she is still alive, and maybe explain the circumstances a bit? But then again, that would've resulted in a different plot, so if it was the way writers wanted it to play out we have to go with it :)

I figured his reaction was due to Cerberus' lies. In ME Redemption, when Liara gave Shepard's body to Cerberus, The Illusive Man had it plan out to turn the Alliance against Shepard and use Shepard to further his propaganda even before s/he woke up. And very few people who knew about Cerberus' Lazarus Project and from what I gather; Liara, Hackett, Anderson and the Shadow Broker and maybe the STG guys as Kirrahe confirmed that Shepard was really dead. I assume Wrex told Liara about Shepard's body from his old Shadow Broker connection but from his reaction on Tuchanka, he didn't know about the reconstruction project.

I assume nobody told Kaidan about Lazarus Project and I imagine he's the only one who would publicly defended Shepard's innocence against the Cerberus rumors throughout the years but Shepard's presence on Horizon virtually confirms that s/he is working for Cerberus. I prefer to be neutral to him and didn't force him to come.He did said that Anderson stonewalled him and from The Shadow Broker dossier, it seems that Hackett prevented the Alliance military from approaching Shepard in 2185. So, his rage was logical. He was betrayed by Shepard. But his letter redeemed him in my case. My Shepard was too miserable for a fling in ME2.

In my Shepard's canon, she missed Kaidan badly but she knew her ties with Cerberus would only make him a target and it did. TIM used him as a lure for the Collectors because he knew about Shepard's relationship with Kaidan. And it wasn't the first time she put Kaidan in real danger by association. Even later TIM ordered Eva Core to kill Kaidan on Mars. He could have sabotage Shepard by making Eva self-destruct with the Prothean blueprints but instead TIM was able to punish Shepard directly through Kaidan and he used this trick again through Udina by making Kaidan a Spectre and a human shield during the coup.

How was this ever boring anyway? Its plain genius. Kaidanmance ftw.

Yes, it's pretty clear Kaidan didn't know anything at all, he stated on Horizon that there were rumours of Shep being alive/working for Cerberus, but that's all he's heard.

Oh yeah, I can see him being the only one defending Shepard's innocence, would make sense. I'm sure he thought plenty about Shepard in the 2yr span and was still loyal to him/her until he actually sees Shep is working with Cerberus.

What I love though is that when Kaidan leaves he says "be careful.", which indicates for me how much he still cares for Shepard, but needs to get away for a while to let things sink in.

Raphael Sbarge said that the relationship was really about underlying "something that want to be said but can't" subtext. I start to look into their interactions closer. Now I'm convinced that "Take care." and "Be safe." and "I care about you" as their private way of saying "I love you". They always have these stare thingy.....

Spoiler

And they're both very very helpful with writing and characterization.... Lol, I'm totally abandoning my real novel for a fanfic project (my writing group people are going to kill me.. but I need muse... and all I think about is playing ME). My WIP is now a four-part Kaidanmance story and I'm writing them all at the same time. Each I reckoned a short story length 20k. Sigh.. I'm nothing if not ambitious. Still need beta readers though.. I will put them up on Ao3 once I finish half of them... but editing is always a pain when you're a ESL writer. tsk

So...

Yesterday I ended Mass Effect 3.

While I think that the ending is awful, I loved the game, especially all the dialogues with my crew.

Romancing Kaidan with my MaleShep has been very satisfying.

I think that their relationship is very well written. It is deep, mature and real. I really enjoyed it.

Bioware, you have my thanks for this :)
