Raphael Sbarge said that the relationship was really about underlying "something that want to be said but can't" subtext. I start to look into their interactions closer. Now I'm convinced that "Take care." and "Be safe." and "I care about you" as their private way of saying "I love you". They always have these stare thingy.....

 

And they're both very very helpful with writing and characterization.... Lol, I'm totally abandoning my real novel for a fanfic project (my writing group people are going to kill me.. but I need muse... and all I think about is playing ME). My WIP is now a four-part Kaidanmance story and I'm writing them all at the same time. Each I reckoned a short story length 20k. Sigh.. I'm nothing if not ambitious. Still need beta readers though.. I will put them up on Ao3 once I finish half of them... but editing is always a pain when you're a ESL writer. tsk

 

Very true, there's always these subtle words and actions, and... stares, I love the stares.

So...

Yesterday I ended Mass Effect 3.

While I think that the ending is awful, I loved the game, especially all the dialogues with my crew.

Romancing Kaidan with my MaleShep has been very satisfing.

I think that their relationship is very well written. It is deep, mature and real. I really enjoyed it.

Bioware, you have my thanks for this

Zevran and Anders romances are good, but Kaidan's is definitely the best.

Playing as a gay man, I felt terribly lonely during the first two chapter, especially before going to Ilos and before starting the suicide mission. I was going to save the galaxy and there was no one at my side to reassure me

 

 

Am I the only one who felt this way?

 

Thankfully, in ME3 my Shepard found his man

We had to wait a lot, but it was worth it. So much worth it!

Right now I'm roleplaying a Shep that focuses on the mission in ME1+2, so there's no room for love (it was lonely, yeah, but he found friends among the other squadmates). Another possibility would be if they both had a thing for each other but never dared to say anything

 

I'm not gay (I'm not even a man ), but I was so curious how they made Kaidan approach Shepard in ME3 that I went through with it. And I was so blown away, it was beautifully done. The chemistry between those two (I guess this will count for FemShep too, but I have yet to play that)...

I usually always play male characters because for some strange reason I like playing them more than females, so falling for Kaidan was a no-brainer, as he was always my favourite character anyway, and I wanted to see more content.

I like how the BroShep's romance inserted seamlessly into the narrative although they were quite different and unique between either Shepards. Its sad that BroShep/Kaidan was written out in ME1. I had the feeling that Handel Mitra (from Mass Effect Ascension) is supposed to replace Rahna in Kaidan's BAat backstory. 

 

I haven't finish with any BroShep playthrough so I haven't exactly experience BroShep/Kaidanmance outside watching vids on youtube. In fact, I'm playing an Earthborn/Ruthless/Renegade BroShep right now but my PC seems to hate the guy and kept crashing every 30 min...

Once he was mad at me because I complained about his ST3's acting on twitter and it goes downhill from there.... very awkward.. since he like to google his name, I'm going to stop talking about him right here

There was a lot of unique dialogues between him and Kaidan but a lot of Meer's tone doesn't mesh well with Sbarge's reaction when the scene melded with FemShep's. I like to read people's tone when they're speaking and its really confusing with Meer's delivery.

Haha, that is supercute, and very accurate! About the vibes, they're definitely there I think. I have no trouble picturing them being secretly in love all this time. It's so well done And the look he gives Shepard right at the beginning of ME3, when they see each other again, it kills me every time. So much longing and sadness. They seem to really have put a lot in Kaidan's facial expressions, because they're really extraordinary.

You got a point there. To be honest in the first game I really wasn't warming up to Shepard's voice at all, he sounded like he's not caring and too much playing tough guy no matter if Paragon or Renegade. In the second it was a bit better, but he sold me in game 3. His voice-acting really seemed more nuanced to me, and I loved it there. It's much more emotional and he's got this warm tone swinging with it in those hearty moments, it was pretty cool to see.

I'm looking forward to how FemShep is because so far I wasn't too impressed with her from what I've seen either, but let's see.

Uhm... I played with the Italian localization, where Kaidan has been voiced by Lorenzo Scattorin and Male Shepard by the great Claudio Moneta (who is a sort of legend in my country). I must say that in my language their dialogues do not sound off, but I can easily imagine that things are different with the original voice actors

Regardless of the history, Shepard has always been a sad and tragic character and it work well with her personality as she goes on.

 

But Meer didn't have that same impact to me. Like I said, BroShep sounded and behave exactly like Casper Van Dien's Johnny Rico in Starship Trooper. He is a very archetypal male protagonist in scifi and gaming especially in western RPGs and maybe it work well for the demographics but it was tiresome trope for me.. and very predictable.

 

Alas I don't really like talking about this voice actor versus thingy.. reddit is filled with that.

That's understandable. English isn't my first language either. Usually, I prefer gaming anything in their original language, like playing Japanese RPGs in Japanese, korean RPGs with korean audio. Sometimes things can get lost in translation.

Yup, been there. Though I actually loved the ending, and there's always place for head-canoning our happy end

Of course we're not going into actor vs. actor It's always personal preference. There's probably good and bad in both.

But I agree, in ME1 Meer was really quite static. It's funny because I believe that's the reason I couldn't completely get into my character at first, but later on I was more happy with it.

I've been thinking about Kaidan recently, mostly in a melancholy vein. 

 

I've started replaying ME for the third time. I think, as female Shepard, I'll never romance any of the other male options. I couldn't resist romancing him in ME1, and I could never bear to cheat on him in ME2, and let go of the scene with the picture before the suicide mission. 

 

It still makes me sad that I'll never see another scene between he and Shepard.

and oh gosh, its nearly 4am here and I'm arguing with people on Reddit about Kaidan and their issues on his concept of "cheating" in ME3 because apparently he said everything is over between them in ME2 and they slept with someone else in ME2, and EVERYONE starts to argue with me about Kaidan suck because they don't see their Shepard double timing him in ME2 because Kaidan left her at Horizon and dissect each of his lines on why their rage about cheating thing is justified because Bioware people wrote badly on this part and they want Kaidan to be okay about Shepard sleeping with another and no hard feelings and all....and then they immediately concluded that Kaidan is full of sh^te and rage and rage and rage.... .... .... .... ....

 

This infinite need for Kaidan bashing because they had one awful playthrough.... come on, I mean, its fine if you love the rest of the LIs but crucifying Kaidan because of one relationship bump in FemShep/Kaidan romance arc if you romance someone else in ME2... and start using f-words because you're angry at him accusing you....seriously, if you don't want him to be brutal at you, then don't romance him at all in ME1. No cheating drama. Happy ME2 romance. But NOOO, you have to do it because its they're playing it naturally and they didn't know what happened in ME3......

 

Dude, my Shepard was a miserable puddle of broken heart in ME2. Joker notice this. Kelly notice this. Liara notice this. I still haven't gotten the ME2's romance achievement and its not for the lack of trying. I flirt with everyone in my last playthrough but it felt wrong when suddenly a romance lock-in show up while discussing something really off topic. And I have issues with my Shepard being in a Cerberus ship filled with hidden cameras. She doesn't need a bed mate. She need a soul mate and he's several light years away being this badass Spectre candidate and getting his biotic squad thingy. Since when relationships ever been so simple and completely about romantic devotion from the start. I actually like this arc because it made Shepard totally anti-Cerberus because TIM kept trying to kill Kaidan all the time.

 

Like seriously, she's stressed and plain miserable without him. 

How can people not see this sad face!! grrrr

He really does.   In both ME1 and ME3, his eyes are easily the ones I find to be the most soulful. He always looks like his feelings are right there, even when he's being dignified and professional. 

 

I remember the first, second...and now third time I played his ME1 romance, I would/do approach him so often, just to see the animation of him turning and looking at Shepard.   I love his big brown eyes and that velvet voice. ::sigh::
