Since Shepard didn't physically age since 2183 and Project Lazarus, technically, Kaidan is five years older than Shepard by ME3. I was surprised that he was already greying.

I know what you mean XD He does have a gorgeous cheekbones... *le sigh* restarted my ME1 playthrough because I have been missing the couple alot >.> cant wait to see him in all his gorgeousness in ME3 <3 Also im not sure if ive asked this but does anyone have a story about his run in with the vorcha? its been bothering me for days :/....

He mention it in Citadel DLC right? I don't think there's any story about it. Fanfic material?

He mentions it in citadel dlc but is never brought up again so most likely fanfic material... which is actually a really good idea XD guess ill go searching wish it was expanded in game though... and despite being 5 years older he is still pretty hot...

Vancouver Adventure: The Kaidan Quest

Hi there Kaidan fans, I thought I'd share a little about my recent trip to Vancouver, British Columbia. I live nearby and have been meaning to visit for a few years. Vancouver has a reputation for being a beautiful city as well as a foodie mecca. When I first played the opening scenes of ME3 I thought “hey, I know that place” and since decided that I would try to find some spots that inspired the game. I also have to give credit to G. S. Jennsen who wrote about her visit to Vancouver and close encounter with Mr. Alenko http://gsjennsen.dev...aidan-325863062. I know some people will say “Hey, Kaidan was born in Singapore, why not go there?”. Well, besides the fact that his parents live in Vancouver (in the future), they have an orchard near Vancouver, he's spent time drinking Labatt's on their Vancouver balcony and he owns property north of Vancouver on the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver is a lot closer.

Anyway, Vancouver is a gorgeous city. I assumed the water and mountain views from the opening of ME3 were exaggerated to make the Reaper attack more dramatic. But in real life, the waterfront is MORE impressive. Tall peaks reflecting off the bay, a beautiful cityscape of glass skyscrapers, I know why the game designers chose Vancouver for that epic intro to the game.

Some players recognized the Vancouver Convention Centre, Harbour Green Park and that funny looking disk just off the shore (Dead Man's Island). With the help of a flycam and google maps I was able to locate the future location of Alliance Headquarters. I will admit this is a surprising location since it currently holds many overpriced condos. I'll assume that Vancouver's real estate prices will be dropping in the next 160 years.

My hotel was a few short blocks away in a curiously quiet neighborhood that also sat next to the immense Stanley Park the many beaches. I didn't have G.S. Jennsen's luck in meeting Kaidan (and in an alt-universe confluence, Ashley too!). However, among the nearby Korean and Sushi places I did find a Ukrainian restaurant, no doubt run by Kaidan's great, great, great, great grandparents. Unfortunately my busy eating schedule didn't allow me to lunch on Alenko family cooking this trip. Maybe next time. I did, however, manage to eat one Canadian delicacy while viewing English Bay.

I encourage anyone interested in visiting Vancouver to do so. While it's difficult to find glimpses of what will happen 160 years in the future, this is a fun city wander around in. Not only are there many restaurants (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, African as well as poutine, smoked meat....), museums, concerts and performances, but also beautiful parks, beaches, nearby mountains and a very convenient public transportation system. See Vancouver before the Reapers attack!

Awesome pictures!

I'd love to visit Vancouver, and have been wanting to ever since first playing the intro to Mass Effect 3. I also liked BioWare for choosing it and London as Earth cities to feature in the game, as opposed to the usual ones that are always featured in sci-fi or alien invasion scenarios!

One day Vancouver, one day! Alas, Italy top to toe first, then a trip of Mass Effect cities starting with London lol

I liked Kaidan coming from Vancouver as well, and really having a strong origins story with his family and growing up there, and his home always keeping him grounded despite all his adventures in space with Shepard and the gang!  :D

Well one of my oldest friends with really dark thick hair started greying at 28 I think. But it only made him look "distinguished" or something. :D

I turned 27 last December and I still look like a teenager.... although I was surprised to see some of my childhood friends started balding. Some people age differently I guess.

36 here and both temples are complete grey/white plus a streak forming on the right side of my forehead, and it's been doing this since I was 24. So Kaidan starting to grey in his early 30's is not so out there.

I knew someone who was 18 and already greying, no joke.

If anything Kaidan greying in his early 30's is more common than a rarity.

Finished a playthrough recently where I, for the first time, did a full Kaidan romance. Before this, the only character I fully romanced was Liara.

The romance itself was solid. Unlike with Liara in ME3, I do not feel like Kaidan forgets he is in a romance with you. I have always liked his character although I have found him a little unbelievable; almost like he is a Disney character. He is just so nice, so in control of his emotions, so understanding of others... I keep expecting to find a big skeleton in his closet.

One of the angles I enjoyed was how, for their love to continue, Shepard had to sacrifice Ashley. The game never covers it much, but I had head canons for the guilt Shepard felt for saving the one she loved over a squad mate, and rationalizations for it like it being right because Kaidan was a superior officer.

The playthrough did make me feel a little bad about all the times I Virmired him. Normally, I would only save Ashley though if I planned to shoot her in ME3.

Lastly, I love the music that plays during the Citadel DLC when Kaidan makes dinner. Very romantic.

I hope you choose renegade with him after the dinner.  ;)

I have sacrificed a romanced Kaidan in ME1 and in ME3 Shepard said "I missed him" unlike the semi-lengthy talk about Ash and target practice. I didn't romance anyone in ME2 at that point and she sounded so forlorn that it kinda felt like she direct it at me and blame me instead. *wince*

I think what was missing about him was this deleted scene, which possibly an alternate scene of his talk about his father as the line sync right. (Ashley's equivalent was her asking Shepard about afterlife)

Kaidan: I'm not the best company right now. You might want to leave while you have the chance.
Shepard: What's up?
Kaidan: Nothing. Nothing specifically. Just... everything!I'm f*cking pissed off and I was just looking to blow off some steam in private.
>>> Shepard: I'm listening Kaidan. You can talk to me.
Kaidan: Talking's not going to do anything!
Shepard: Come on. Just breathe for a second.
Kaidan: No, frankly. I want to punch things. It's all so freaking unfair! We didn't do anything to disserve this. People are dying at the whim, the freaking whim, of something evil.
Shepard: Yeah, The Reapers have nothing to do with karma.Feel better?
>>> Shepard: Yeah, that's right. Get it out.
Kaidan:We didn't do anything to the Reapers. We did nothing to incur their wrath. Nothing! Is some kind of payback for the horrific things that we've all done to each other?Do they see us waging war on each other and decide that we all need to die.
Shepard: {exhale through nose -- "You said it"} Yeah.
Kaidan: Well, it's what I need to believe to keep from losing my mind. I need it to make some kind of sense. {Turning to Shepard} But you don't need this. I certainly didn't mean to unload this on you.
>>> Shepard: Next opportunity I order you to take a little time on the Citadel.
Kaidan:I'm fine. I know I'm supposed to be the steadfast one. But every now and then even I gotta blow off steam.
>>> Shepard:I get it. Sometimes you gotta work it out. {pause} I can take it.
Kaidan:I'm glad someone understands.
>>> Shepard:Just make sure that you're getting what you need to keep it together,
Kaidan:What I need is to end this war so that I can get back the life that the Reapers freaking stole from me.
>>> Shepard:Okay, take care. I'll maybe see you later.
Kaidan:Sure. I'll be around.

....except I know someone will complain that is too whiny... as always

He shared a lot of Bioware romantic male qualities especially seen in Dragon Age's Alistair, Anders and Cullen without the broodiness and baggage but for me, it was a more mature take to Carth romance (without the dead wife and errant son which was relegated to Thane). I don't really think he was that unbelievable since it made sense that he have better control of his emotions because he could kill people easily with his mind if he snapped. So, the part where he could be a male version of Jack isn't that far from the truth. Although he does have a lot of his own personal conflict if you look at the trilogy in the bigger picture.

But I'm mostly interested in Shepard's reaction to him. Much of their trilogy interactions was largely non-verbal and what they said to each other often times don't synced with what they actually mean. It was littlest things that they do but mostly how they look at each. I could probably fill half of this thread just on screencaps when they said I love you with their eyes but Shepard was too chicken to say it.

See, Kaidan never gets that emotional. It is hard to exactly pinpoint what it is about him that I find unbelievable. Liara, for example, holds many of Kaidan's qualities yet I find her believable. And those few times she gets angry, I believe it. Kaidan though, I find hard to take seriously; even when he is upset. Ex: After Sanctuary.

And yes, I absolutely picked the renegade option after that dinner. ;-)

Liara simply have more scenes together than than everyone else which allowed more expansion of her character although I felt all the focus was on her own emotional state rather Shepard's. But I'm just not really into the whole "a girl have to be pandered with a lot of sweet words to make her open up more to you" and Liara herself like to play on Shepard's emotions with the whole "just friends"...  (didn't she say the same exact thing with her and Feron)

I think the only time Kaidan was reasonably angry was in ME2.

wNqIHsFl.jpg

I still remember the backlash because players didn't expect their gentle Kaidan to be mean to their Shepard (and even more rage in ME3 when Kaidan accused them for cheating). But I thought it was appropriate considering the Collectors took half of the colony (around 300,000 people including children) because TIM suspects Kaidan had a relationship with her...

Maybe it seem unrealistic that he didn't show extreme emotions or multiple moments of vulnerability/broodiness as various other LIs, but this is a guy who was given a second chance with the love of his life who happens to be the savior of the galaxy, who don't fall apart easily when faced with impossible odds, who faced politicians, military leaders, machine gods and even death with single-minded determination and stubbornness. Why wouldn't he mirror this aspect of her?

But I like that I have more flexibility in their relationship. There are surprisingly several types of Shepard that I could play in his romance compared to the limits of other LIs.

I think Kaidan is fairly conservative, but passionate in his convictions.

I know people like him, reserved, oft broody, but fiery and spirited in what they believe and in where there loyalties lie (though sadly I don't know anyone as near as good looking lol)

I play as a MaleShep, but I like his romance with Kaidan, and I've never really felt like trying another LI, cause I like there natural progression from ME1 through 3.

And I've watched the full romance of FemShep and Kaidan on YouTube and agree its one of ME's best written romances. But cause I'm a gaymer, ill always stick to my MaleShep and Kaidan romance!
