I liked the fact that Kaidan stood his ground.
I just could relate and put myself his position, that's how I think.

Oh, god, there's another one? I keep popping up in these threads and presenting the (apparently ridiculous) idea that both the VS and Shepard were right to be upset, that neither acted in a particularly adult manner, and that each should apologize to the other, a la:

VS: "Hey, Commander, sorry about how I acted on Horizon."
Shepard: "No worries, I get it. Sorry I didn't explain things."
VS: "It's okay. It was just, you know. Cerberus."
Shepard: "Man, tell me about it. Eff those guys. Just be glad you didn't have to work with them."

I've been on this forum for one day and, from just browsing, it's a landscape of repeated threads and angst. It feels like those Mako sidequests in ME. Same things over and over.

My (one and only) FemShep is with/waiting for Kaidan. I can't help but project my own behaviour onto my character! *points at Mr Embrasse accusingly, with all his devotion and commitment and what not* :bandit:

Ah, well I'm English and a lot of people generalise us too......... I tend not to judge a person by geography, it seems a bit............. daft....... :)

I agree. I personally don't want Horizon to be given too much of a focus. In my opinion it was a shoddy plot device, and Kaidan as well as Shepard should move on from it quickly in ME3.

Kaidan ~ ''I'm sorry, I should have given you time to explain, Shepard''
Shepard ~ ''No, no..... I'm sorry Kaidan, I totally understand where you were coming from it DID look bad''
Kaidan ~ ''Look, we both were stupid on Horizon, but damn... Seeing you alive... knocked me for six... can we just put it in the past''
Shepard ~ ''I think I'd like that''
Simple really, isn't it.......... though Kaidan should say as he walks off to his part of the Normandy.... ''Still, I was right about Cerberus though...'' *snigger*

I completely understand why Kaidan and Ash reacted the way they did on Horizon and I can see FemShep and Kaidan talking it over and then moving on. I might roleplay that my unfaithful FemShep who moved on took it in a bad way. Well, it would explain why she moved on. So, I understand them but it's a pretty good situation to use in different ways for science with my FemSheps. Who was relaxed about it and who got mad at him.

She's from Alabama, she's entitled to form an opinion about the place she lives.  I think it's pretty normal to dislike where you are, at least occasionally, especially if you're young and want to get out into the world.

It would also be lovely to see people rage about not being able to fulfill the revenge fantasies they've been harboring since ME2 came out.

Well those people are going to rage anyways, because we're fighting Cerberus, and everyone I've come across with designs of revenge upon the VS is a xenophobic Cerberus apologist. I think most people are just slightly annoyed and disappointed.

If the VS is a LI, my Shepards get incredibly drunk. If not, their response is "wha teh eff," and then they move on.

That will be hilarious. Sometimes fan rage over such small things is entertaining.

Seriously though, they're mad because Kaidan/Ashley are staying true to their characters and not rushing off with Shepard (aka their avatar) and agreeing with everything he/she says? How dare they not agree with and worship Shepard! <_< Having everyone agree with the PC all the time is just... lame, no matter what game you're playing.

He only says it once, but if I remember correctly he says something in the same vein a couple of times. But I could be wrong; it was just a slightly offputting trait from a character I otherwise respect a good deal.

Also, holy BALLS you people have been busy while I slept.

Criz was exactly right.

If you're talking about this conversation, then I would notice that Shepard asks Kaidan for personal input. Kaidan gives an answer, but he apologizes for not being able to say much more because he has a migraine. That's not whining, that's just telling your CO why you're not on top of things at the moment. Anyone who has had a migraine knows that it's hard to concentrate on anything when you have one. You just want to pass out.
Also, Shepard asks Kaidan if there's anything he can do to help, and Kaidan basically says, "No, but thanks." A whiner would have went on and on about his terrible migraine.
And yes, he does continue about his past, but that's how normal conversations go when you're getting to know someone. Especially when Shep is interested in Kaidan's past.

I always just thought the whiner part was Bioware calling back to Carth (also Sbarge) in KOTOR who was on a frequent basis called a whiner by the fans - and then in KOTOR II by Obsidian.

Fair enough. You guys obviously know the conversations better than I do. It's been a while since I played ME1, longer since I conversed with Kaidan. And my 360's broken, so I can't just play it and see for myself. I'll take your word for it. Like I said, it doesn't affect my opinion of the character, which is generally favorable. It was just a strange incongruity from vaguely remembered conversations.

I was just responding to RAF1940, who seemed to imply that YayCookies wasn't speaking from her own experience.  I grew up on the upper West Side of Manhattan, which is a great neighborhood, but by the time I was eighteen, I wanted to get out of NYC really, really badly.  I think it's natural, the grass is always greener and all that.

My problem was that he started mistrusting the PC way too early in the game.  After the big reveal, yeah, he has a very good point.  On Taris, or the first few planets, it's heavy handed, the way he emphasizes not trusting you.  He's your superior officer, why should he be so suspicious without good cause?

And to bring this back to Kaidan, I hope there aren't ongoing trust issues in ME3.

Well, my mum is dead (but she would have laughed, she was pretty cool and played some games, not like Mass Effect, only like Tetris) she died nearly two years ago.... And my father plays games (he is 74) like Sims and NFS and so on :P
Not to mention at 45 people tend not to question you as much ;) My eldest son is 20 and my daughter is 17, the little one is just 29 months :) So anyone trying it on would be sent away with a flea in their ear :D

Sorry to hear about your mother's passing. :( But your dad, there will never be a day I get my father to do that.  Apparently, 77 is too late to play "friolous" games. :D
