Agreed. Kaidan said it didn't mean anything and I believe him. Especially with how he talked about Rahna and their days at Brain Camp. They kept their hands off each other.

I really don't think that Kaidan had any sort of special attachment to "the doctor" he mentioned, I think that was just a classic example of Kaidan leaving himself "a way out," you know?

He does say in the letter 'nothing serious' and that kind of insinuates that neither party took the date to heart. At least we know he didn't. (Drinks, that's all. and in two years, one date... and they wonder why we're loyal).

I think people wish it was awkward and stiff....
I think the date went like any other date, normal conversation- they had non-awkward small talk, nothing spectacular, just drinks. Kaidan was a gentleman as usual and the Doctor was flirty and intelligent. Kaidan honestly tried to put his heart into it, but couldn't. And he didn't lead her on at the end of the night, because they both knew there was no connection; they weren't right for each other. There wasn't even the slightest bit of a spark. So they had a good night and left it at that.

Oh, definitely! It's my headcanon that Kaidan went out with that doctor even he didn't romance Shepard, but he only did it so that his friends would shut up about his personal life. The "date" probably lasted all of ten minutes:

"So, tell me about your work!"

"I can't really discuss my work."

"Oh, okay... What do you do for fun?"

"Well, you know... the usual... I watch vids... and... go on the extranet..."

"... ....oh! Your friends told me that you fought in the Battle of the Citadel! That must have been-"

"I should go."

Quite right, and I don't imagine that Kaidan was "brooding" at all during his "date"... I just can't imagine that he clicked at all with that girl, or that he had any real idea what to say to her. He probably just let her do all the talking, and when she ran out of steam, he paid for the drinks and left.

I imagine that Kaidan's job made it more awkward than his history (whatever it was) with Shepard. Being a special operations soldier, and not really being able to talk about anything he does, eliminates a whole lot of conversation. It takes a toll. There's a reason that, in the real world, Special Forces soldiers have something like a 50% divorce rate.

Aww, I rather imagine her demeanor like Dr. Chakwas. Serious, collected, intelligent, etc. I think he'd like her on a surface level, just not romantically. Also, Kaidan would have been comparing little things about her to Shepard (She doesn't have Shepards eyes, Shep's cheekiness, etc.), and then scolding himself for doing so.

Kaidan did say in the letter to Shepard that it took him a long time to get over his guilt for surviving but he did say the he moved on.

I rather imagined that the doctor would be very interested in him, but he wouldn't really be that into her. I always thought she'd be a real beautiful and intelligent woman, but there'd be no spark on his end. (she is not, after all, a woman of action)

He might make polite small talk, but his heart just really wouldn't be that into it. He'd still feel really vulnerable about getting close to anybody after Shep. He might've smiled and even shared a laugh with the doctor, but it just didn't sit right in him.

Sappy, I know. But that's how I think about their date. (better than thinking he actually sat down and enjoyed it. lol)

That must be it. He certainly isn't the kind of guy to cheat or be less than honest in a relationship. He's pretty much a knight in space.
