"Soldier's" is a possessive that does not belong in that sentence. I fixed it for you . As an actual soldier, I agree; soldiers aren't marines and vice versa. But coloquially, "soldier" fits since, as a rule, people don't grasp the distinction.

As a matter of service pride, I'd argue that special operations troops probably trace their lineage back to the army, when there was still an army. I respect the hell out of the marines, but linear thinking isn't their forte.

Hello, all!

Been lurking for a while here but finally managed to catch up to y'all by completing my first run-through of ME and ME2 over the course of these past few weeks. Actually finished ME2 this afternoon (everyone survived!) and not ashamed to say I cried after Shepard's successful "leap of faith" to the Normandy at the end. 

Played modded MaleShep (using standard Sheploo face) to romance Kaidan in ME and stayed true to him in ME2. Made him 100% Paragon. Hey, what can I say - I'm a pushover for knights in N7 armor and the biotic squires they court. Can't wait to see Kaidan again (hopefully in a more forgiving and accepting light) in ME3.
So yeah, Shepard saves the galaxy again. But we all know the reason why he really did it, don't we?

I think she would, but only after her duties were done.

I just finished my pro-Cerebus Shepard with Jacob as the romance. I had planned on getting around to him eventually, but bumped it up in priority when I read in here that Jacob was written by the same guy who wrote Kaidan in ME1. Definitely an enjoyable game. Similar attitudes, they both have their stuff together, Kaidan's a little more cautious in his approach while Jacob has boundaries firmly established. I picked Jacob to be the fire team leader both times and was reminded of Kaidan teaming up with the salarians, giving status updates over the radio, coordinating things with Shepard. And I laughed at the end when my Cerebus-Shepard chose to save the base. Jacob was all "hell, no, bad idea" JUST LIKE when my renegade Shepard didn't save the council and Kaidan didn't think it was a good idea either. Just found the similarities funny with the way they both played out.

@Gilsa, There's just something I don't really like about Jacob, but I've heard that a lot. Perhaps I should just romance him to see the similarities firsthand. I'd have to get past Shep's voice though...

I love Jacob's romance. He and Kaidan are very like-minded, it's true, but they share some key differences... like the fact that Kaidan would never, ever, ever join Cerberus, no matter how fed up he got with the Alliance.

On several occasions I've been tempted to make a femShep who romances both Kaidan and Jacob... but I don't want to break their hearts. They're both good men, and I don't want to have to choose between them!

Not always. Only when referring to a specific Marine or "the Marines" as in the Marine Corps. I did jack up once, there, but if you're talking about naval infantry in a generic sense, it's uncapitalized.

I have 2 FemSheps for Kaidan and so far 1 for Jacob. Currently I'm actually playing a FemShep that moved on from Kaidan to Jacob and it will be pain in ME3 because I really like them both. Have no idea how I will get through that PT but I want to see how it plays out when you have had a FemShep that moved on. Expecting a little bit of drama but no catfight-thing. But yes, I really appriciate them both, they feel like real men standing by my FemShep.

Wonder how they will work together if FemShep isn't involved with them both, hoping that they will be able to have some kind of perhaps friendship. Simply because I think that they are both good guys and feel like you said, like minded.

I love the Jacob romance too I think there are a lot of similarities between A) Kaidan and Jacob and Kaidan and Jacob threads.....
Both are long suffering and both are deal with the hate with a quiet dignity that many fan threads could learn from...
I have a shedload of Kaidan saves and two Jacob saves (one on PS3 and one on 360, both via Genesis, so that Shepard is single, he deserves that much imo) They are both honourable men and both are trying to do the right thing, Jacob is open about distrusting Cerberus and TIM knows that, but Jacob won't sit on his hands. Where Kaidan is working on showing the Alliance that the threat is real.. but they are both doing it with integrity (imo)
I don't take Jacob with me for the final fight, I'd like to.. but damnit, if the best team isn't Miranda and Thane for that little jaunt........ :/

Well, I've always imagined that Ash, Kaidan and Shepard belonged to the Alliance Marine Corps...so that's probably my head canon speaking.
