It's unclear territory. Several lines in game are recorded for Shepard talking to/about the LI of gender s/he can't (currently?) romance - there are several lines of maleShep to Kaidan, femShep to Ashley, maleShep to Thane, femShep to Liara about romanced Jack. Maybe some else I've forgotten about. However, they are absolutely identical to lines of Shepard of opposite gender, Ashley's and Kaidan's dialogues are not full romantic line, and it's hard to assume LotSB was going to make Jack bi, so the question of their origin is rather unclear. There's no other indication that Kaidan intended as bi - again, as far as I know

Both Ash and Kaidan were at one point considered to be an option for s/s romance but the idea was dropped due to time constraints. They felt the dialogues from opposite-sex romances didn't fit when copy+pasted unchanged into same-sex romance so they would not only have to rewrite some of the dialogues and record them then but also create custom cut-scenes that are time consuming. Unfortunately, gay players are in the minority so they've prioritized romances for the majority and scrapped same-sex ones, sans Liara.

A lot of us are hoping that Kaidan will finally be allowed to show off his biotics in ME3. Until then, ME1 and ME2 will have to suffice.

This pic made me think that I would preffer if the wedding was in military uniforms and had a general military wedding feel to it. No big white dress and tuxedo.

 Wow, I had no idea that Holly Conrad (the awesome FemShep cosplayer) was so anti-Kaidan.  I was watching her Wrex head-piece sculpting Livestream tonight, and there was a point where I just had to turn it off.  Like, wow.  I think I just lost some respect for her.

I don't get the hate against him either, and I don't find the whole "because his VA is the person who did Carth in KOTOR /whine" to be a vaild excuse.

I don't find it a valid excuse either considering that I'm deaf and didn't realize that they're both voiced by the same VA. (I know I'm missing out on hearing his voice ;_; )

I actually have no hate towards any of the characters in the ME universe. I agree Udina is an annoying pain in the ass but I don't wish to kill him off, same with the Turian councilor. I would like to punch them both in the face though for stabbing me in the back after dying though lol

She's sitting there going on and on, gushing about Garrus.  I mean, that's ok, that's her LI, I can respect that.  But I request, if not demand, the same respect when it comes to my choice of LI, who not only do I like because he's my LI, but because there is not viable reason to hate him.  I don't care who's doing the talking.  <_<

Another Crabcat Indsustries member was also sitting in for the stream, who was a Kaidan 'loyalist'.  Holly would not let that girl rest.  I wanted them to fight or something.  I'm rather immature.

Ah. Sad that anyone would get out of the way to riducule one's favorite. If I don't like a character, I just ignore them. It's too bothersome to go out my way just to do that. Different strokes for different folks, right?

Anyway, no matter what I'll continue to root for this character. Right now, Kaidan seems to be the underdog of the cast. I'll do my best to keep positive.

I won't judge Casey Hudson since I really don't know the guy, but yeah...I really don't have much demands (besides the possible m/m option) except that I really hope he and the rest of the devs will give Kaidan justice and develop his character and be able to showcase his abilities further as well.

And that he will live through the game. Haha.

Although I'd rather it won't be like force-feeding Kaidan on everyone's throats because even I would think it'd be annoying and unfair - Kaidan deserves to get a share of the same amount of spotlight along with the rest of the cast. I'd rather that this character to grow slowly within and eventually be appreciated.

Ah, Kaidan haters... Creatures repeating "whiner" and shutting up when asked to give a proof quote where he "whines".
It's surprising to see the growth of interest in Ashley and Kaidan these days. And it's very pleasant to see folks I didn't saw in this threads before saying "it's KaidAn" or "he was useful squadmate in ME1, I'm going to take him on missions in ME3". World is moving at the nice direction

Why would she even need to comment in the first place? Am the only one who doesn't dislike any PC? Did anyone defend him, or can say what the comments were?

I'm pretty sure that the Kaidan hate it due to him being a human. We are seen as "boring" probably. I was having this discussion with a guy friend (he saved Kaidan, which surprised me!) is that Kaidan is more "real" then say Garrus. Many people play games to play lives that aren't possible so I am guessing that why would you want to romance someone who could be around in RL when you can romance an alien?

Obviously I have other saves with different LI's but Kaidan is my canon, due to his personality and the fact that he is hot.

Also the Horizon incident didn't help the VS popularity but I hope that ME3 will change all that and people will come saying what a huge mistake they made in disliking him...

Just realised the coincidence - my ex always saved Ashley while Andrey always saved Kaidan
He says something like "despite your wallpaper boy hasn't got that big t... traits... that Miranda has, he deserves to be respected because he always has a very good reason for his actions. Let me know that will happen in ME3"

don't read too much into it, if she doesn't like Kaidan, she's free to say so, don't hate or disrespect her for it, just because her views don't match the theme of this thread 


as for Casey's comment, I think it has often been quoted incorrectly and/or out of context which doesn't help.
This may not even be related to whether or not there are people out there writing pro or anti Kaidan stuff etc. or whether Casey likes the character, this may come purely from the feedback numbers they got from players; e.g. how many romanced him and how many virmired him.
The thing is, in the final version of ME1 you could only romance Kaidan as a femShep and while they're a very vocal group (resulting in a femShep trailer, femShep featured on the ME3 CE case, etcetc.), the numbers suggest that they're only around 17% - 20% of the players depending on which numbers you take.
Which means, from the beginning only ~20% of the games would even have the Kaidan-romance available, now take away those who don't romance anyone or Liara and that's a pretty meager number.
Tied to the whole romance is probably also his chances of being chosen as the VS, because if you've romanced Ashley you probably save her, not Kaidan.

And let's face it, he DOES die often in combat ...
there are others you can add to your squad as 'lockpickers', so you don't need Kaidan, whereas people won't kill Anders because they need a healing mage no matter how much they dislike him.

oh well, here's hope that they still bother to put some effort into it and make him a useful squadmember
