@Kyakan: For all the sh*t they get on this forum, Bioware does a lot of things well. The thing they do best is people. Ernest Hemingway (my favorite author) once said, "When writing a novel a writer should create living people; people not characters. A character is a caricature." Bioware gets that, and creates incredible people. They can make you care for a NPC like no other developer.

Read Diraemythos and Helenovision comments going off on the dude who said this: "How could you want to stay with Kaiden? Seriously after he dissed you like that, I would like to kick the VS out of the Normandy at the first stop. Otherwise Incredibly awesome picture."meonlyred wrote...

Its priceless and made my day. I love how vocal and angry Kaidan fans are. I have to shake my head at the people who comment on other's fanart saying "I hate Kaiden but this is nice." Why the hell can't they leave the "I hate Kaidan" part out and just say "Hey this is nice."

@moonmythology: That is phenomenal. Seriously, that's fantastic.
@Graceyn: I'd start with The Sun Also Rises. It was his first novel, one of my favorites. It's pretty short, too, so you can read it and get a feel for whether or not you like his writing. Not everyone does. (kind of a nerd)

And to keep this on topic...
@Red
Well Shepard wouldn't take crap from anyone about her man. And we speak on behalf of Shepard.
You and Heleno and Dirae made us proud.
Part of Heleno's comment:
Also, Kaidan doesn't cause Shep's vag to chafe/some major allergic reaction every time they f*ck, and you know, she needs to be at full mobility to stop the Reapers and all. I suppose that's an ok reason to stay with him.

To clarify myself, I don't have anything against Garrus, him as an LI, or people who choose to romance him. I know my comments on Shoko's piece kind of seemed to suggest that, but it was really a mix of whoever made that first comment about "I didn't know people liked Kaidan I hate the VS I want them both dead and off my ship I am awesome", and then I read someone saying something about Garrus, and I don't know, my brain just kind of mashed everything together, and I'll admit, it went a bit off topic. I went ahead and typed what I felt t that moment without thinking about it, and then hit send, and it was over.
I guess if I hold anything against Garrus, it's the seemingly immature fangirls, and again that is not all of them, I have a few friends who are die-hard Shakarian, and I totally respect them for that. It probably helps though, that they have a mutual respect for my love of Shenko. It's just you can't go a day on dA without seeing a pro Garrus/Shep pic that goes out of it's way to diss Kaidan somehow, or the artist will make sure to mention how they "dumped lame, whiny, weak, human Kaidan as soon as I got back from Horizon, and now am tapping that hot Turian ass". :I And I think most of you get what I'm saying. It's just that you see enough of that, you get sick of it, you end up getting kind of defensive about it. I'm not gonna lie, Kaidan is a very special character to me. My first and favorite BioWare romance, but I also really like his depth, personality, and backstory as a stand-alone character. And I always stand up for what I like/believe in/etc.
All in all, I think that all romances have enjoyable aspects, and it's awesome that there are so many choices, for so many different types of players. But, even though it seems like I'm a little borderline anti-Garrus, all LIs deserve respect, even if you don't partcularly like them. I know that sounds ridiculously ideal, and it's the internet, and it's never going to happen, but it's how I feel about it. And yeah, I have my favorites, but I really try not to go out of my way to make anyone feel bad about their choices. I mean, that is what these games are built around, CHOICES. And that's why they are so enjoyable, imo, because you can customize the experience to your liking, and there is always something new, if you so choose to go for a different experience.

Maybe it's just because I am not attracted to Garrus' personality type, so I would never go for the romance to begin with, I don't know.

Haha, thanks. I just felt like it was worth mentioning all of that before someone was like "Oh, well, she was talking negatively about Garrus, and expects respect for Kaidan!". Just to clear things up, really.

I want to preface this by saying that I'm not pointing at any one person or group of people when I say this.
If your reaction to Virmire is "boo, it would've been awesome if character x died," then you're missing the point. The whole point of the Mass Effect series, what makes it truly revolutionary, is that sometimes choices are unpleasant. Sometimes there isn't a good choice, or a right choice. I realize that they're just pixels, but you should never want someone dead, especially a teammate. Maybe it's just because my life experiences have given me a unique outlook on things like this, but consigning someone to death should never be easy, should never be joyful.
Just my two cents.
