But on a slightly different topic, I suppose that's one of the reasons people ship him and Ash? And the fact that they're foils and "opposites attract" and all that jazz.... I honestly think they're too opposite. Does anybody here like him and Ashley together? If so...offer insight please!

Kaidan and Ashley are written in such a way that they come across as good friends as well as comrades-in-arms.  Lovers isn't much of a stretch to me, since such relationships can be best built on friendship, and high tensions can push forward romantic emotions that would otherwise be dormant if they developed at all.  In my case, beyond all that, Ashley is almost identical in personality to the earliest draft of my Shepard (who romanced Kaidan... by accident, no less).

It's hard for me not to see them together, and in fact I ship them harder than I ship Kaidan with Shepard.

(*... deposits $0.02*)

*blinks* I had no idea such a pairing existed. I could see it though. Maybe. If there were no Shepard. :D

Thought just occurred to me. One could rationalize that when on Virmire, since both volunteer to take the more dangerous mission for the other, it was a sign of their love for each other, they would always prefer the other survive instead of theirselves, further adding to the idea that they are especially broken up aboard the Normandy, "Why me, why did I lose him/her?"

Thanks! I just kind of imagine their personalities not being the strongest of magnets, since she seems very lively and outgoing, and he is very reservered. Like....she would rather go out to a club, when he just wants to stay at home and watch vids.  But, I know relationships work out like that all the time, if there is give and take from both sides. So, I understand it better now.
And completely agree about the friendship and high tensions part, but that's why I ship Shenko. :P

Oh, more Kaidan, sort of.

There's also that.  And Kaidan had a hand in getting Ashley on board the Normandy in the first place.

Said it before, but Kaidan fits romantically with any Shepard.  Extraverts and introverts, Paragons, Paragades, Renegons, and Renegades alike.  People embellish their Shepards to be of all sorts of personalities beyond what the game shows.  Because of that, it's hard to say what his type is and you could make an argument for him romancing a large swath of NPCs (especially the other LI's, since they'll also go for various alignments of Shepard).

Kaidan and Ash strike me as a good romantic match, but one that wouldn't ever happen even without Virmire. I think they're both too cautious to enter into a relationship, without prodding by someone. Especially one that could jeopardize their military careers.

Edited and removed because this was already discussed like 3 pages ago and I didn't see it (about the trial/Genesis) D:  Sorry guys, didn't want to make any redundant seeming posts.  :pinched:

Oh, there you go with the reasonable argument! :PHehe. Yeah, I agree. They both strike me as having a bit of the "eldest child/act responsibly" complex. I'm sure they work as a couple in fan fiction, though. A talented writer can talk you into all sorts of things.

Very, very true. I need to get my cannonShep and Kaidan's relationship out of the back of my mind when thinking about other Kaidan pairings. Look at things with a blank slate. Because I really can see other Shenko pairings.
And I need to remember that Kaidan is very...flexible.

Yeah, I'm just terrible with those, aren't I? I see booze being involved

*In bed, the morning after*
Ash: Ugh... I'm never drinking again... *starts to open eyes* Nope. Calling a do-over on today. *rolls over in bed*
Kaidan: Your hand's in my face.
Ash: Oh, no. Sh*t. Who? *opens eyes* ****.
Kaidan: Yeah.

*later*
Kaidan: Williams, can we talk?
Ash: Sure, LT, whatya need?
Kaidan: We need to talk about last night.
Ash: Oh. Right. Last night... well, I... Lord, strike me down now.
Kaidan: Look, Ash, let's be honest. Last night never would have happened if we were sober.
Ash: Agreed.
Kaidan: But I don't think it would've happened if we didn't feel something, either.
Ash: LT, I-
Kaidan: Before you say anything, let me finish. If you want to chalk this up to the drinks, that's fine with me. It was a stupid mistake between friends. We'll laugh about it in a while. But if you want this to mean something, if you want to give this a try, I'm willing.
Ash: I... I think I'd like that... Kaidan.

I thought people got the idea when Chris L'Etoile (Ashley's writer) said on the old Bioware forums that the plan was that Ashley and Kaidan would pair off if you didn't romance either. It was cut because they lacked time to do it.

It's still kind of implied something might be going on between the two of them. If you romance Kaidan and ask Ashley if she is interested in Kaidan, she quickly denies it. But if you play a FemShep and don't romance Kaidan and ask if Ash is interested in Kaidan, she will refuse to answer. She will remind you that you aren't allowed to ask that and that she is not required to answer. Why would she say that unless something was going on?

I prefer not to think that Kaidan and Ashley had a thing for one another... The fanart and the mods are pretty, and I don't deny that the pairing has a certain appeal, but the thought of it breaks my headcanon so many ways that it causes physical pain.

I always got more of a brother/sister vibe from them. She mentioned his cuteness once in the beginning, and we didn't hear more about it.

Yay, new thread title!

About Ashley/Kaidan... I always found "order me to kiss a turian, and I'll do it" (or something about that. The talk about her readiness to do what ordered to do) to be extremely suspicious (Ummm... it's nothing that one turian stands several metres against you?), so if I pair Ashley, it will be Garrus. Ashley/Kaidan looks more like "bros" - not in brother/sister category, but in shooting bad guys and then getting some beer on CItadel.

Ashley and Kaidan together break my heart :( because it can never happen. I too tend to get more of a best buds vibe from them, but who knows... it could have grown into more. heck some of my Shepards would play matchmaker gleefully if that was an option. but you can only keep one of them. :(

I agree with KawaiiKatie and silver1881, it just doesn't *happen* in my head... And I love them both... but they are very different and I actually see Kaidan with someone out of the Alliance if not with Shepard, iyswim? He would go for someone like a doctor or a caring profession, like a Florence Nightingale type (think more Chakwas than Michel, not actually Chakwas, but like her) someone on the front line still without being in the forces... Someone knee deep in blood and danger in the name of doing the right thing..
Just IMO........... (which I am entitled to and isn't attempting to influence anyone else's opinion, lol...) *is aware of how things get out of hand here* ;)

Exactly. All Kaidan does say is that he prefers adventurous women. Ashley certainly fits that bill.

Everybody's entitled to their own "headcanon" when there's not a lot of information ingame, so don't worry about it.  I think we can't really make assumptions, other than obviously liking Shepard, and finding Liara (and we can assume other asari) attractive, he hasn't disclosed a particular "type" he prefers, ingame.

To me, the idea that Ashley is quite a bit like FemShep, and thus Kaidan would be attracted to her, makes sense.  I'm sad that they couldn't put the Kaidan/Ashley getting together thing into ME1, especially if that idea was already in the works when they came up with Virmire, it could have been even more tragic.

I get the brother/sister vibe from Kaidan and Ashley too. If I was going to match Kaidan with someone besides Shepard I would say Miranda for her driven nature. She is kind of like a renegade Shepard in some ways. Or Kasumi, mostly because they both share that snarky sense of humor. But if I was going to truly pick someone for him to settle down with I would pick someone not part of the crew. Mostly because of his 'keep to himself' attitude. Shepard seems to be a special case that he took a chance on, where normally he would have kept his head down and done his job. Outside of the crew, I can see him with someone at the head of their field: a top doctor at a hospital, a director of colonial affairs, a head scientist at a research company, etc. In the end someone intelligent driven but also can stay home and raise the rugrats while he goes out and saves the galaxy. Kaidan strikes me as the type who would want marriage and kids, if he could. Though I do have the feeling that he would defer to what Shepard ends up wanting.

Hello, Kaidan thread :) I was reading a thread about Ashley's catsuit etc, etc, etc. And I was wondering if anyone here thinks that Kaidan looks, ah, better with heavy armour.

You'd think I'd like him more with a tight light armour, but the heavy one has it's own... appeal. So to speak.
