But why? Its the future, I imagine almost 200 years from now we will be more open to non-straight relationships. If its okay for a human to have relations with a person who is not even of the same species, I can't imagine same sex being faux pas anymore. Or at least I hope that is the case.

It just seems like reconing him after them talking about having something for Rahna and seeing the difference between what he says and how he acts towards male vs female Shepard.

Yeah, I agree somewhat, but his attraction to Rahna doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't like men either.

I don't know if things have changed that much though. I mean, there aren't any references to s/s male relationships in the game, that I know of. All the strippers in the clubs are women. The way Garrus says "cross-species intercourse," and some of the human crewmembers reactions to aliens in general makes it seem like it's not a norm...
Except with Liara, but that's different because all Asari are "female," and humanoid. :/
I don't know, to me it seems like BioWare just kept all current social conventions.

Why assume he is bi at all? That is how this discussion got started. We were wondering where that idea even came from. Why is he seen as gay and not, for example, Garrus?

The way I see it, why not? It's just a game, after all. An abnormally epic and well-written and fangasm-worthy game, but a game nonetheless. Making all the romanceable characters bisexual will allow the player more freedom to do what they want without having to go out of their way to mod everything. If what they want is to romance Kaidan as a dude, why not let them have that option? No harm done; it's not like the people who don't want to do it will be forced to. Same goes for Garrus and everyone else, but this is a Kaidan thread, so.

I dont think being gay/bi would be why he's hesitant. I think he would be hesitant, because thats his character, doesnt want to overstep his bounds. He wouldnt show interest unless he thought maybe there was a chance.

On the note of "should he be gay/bi/straight in ME3" note, I'd like  to chime in. I used to be pretty set on the "if he obviously wasn't gunning for male Shep in 1, why would he in 3" crowd, but after some thought...who cares? Maybe he wasn't sure if Shepard reciprocated, or maybe he didn't realize just how much male Shepard meant to him before they were torn apart? Who's to say? And, frankly, it wouldn't affect my game either way...since I will pretty much never play a male Shepard, ever. DA2 really opened my eyes to the player-sexual vs set sexualities thing. At first, I thought it was great that you had characters with obvious inclinations, but when I finished playing DA2, I realized that I was far more satisfied with the fact that I could play nothing but femHawke and still romance everyone. So, I suppose that's me waving my "please to let everyone bump hai uglies with Kaidan in ME3" flag.

In short, romances for all! Especially Kaidan! <3

And on another Kaidan note, I was playing through ME2 with screenshots every second, and I stumbled across this gem. If you don't pay attention to the facial animations, I actually think the voice actor did all right. Either way, this anomaly of a screenshot fell into my folder and I about melted. It's so sweet.

Please don't get me wrong I have no problem with that. Bioware needs to have more options for gay and lesbian. I only have two problems with Kaidan being gay, how much hate will Kaidan be dragged through because he might be bi in ME3? And how will they keep it from cutting the FemShep loyalist romance short?

I get sick to my stomach thinking about seeing someone say "See I told you guys he was gay, I'm going to keep him alive at Virmire just so I can kill him again." I love this character and it pisses me off to see this unexplained level of hate. Making him bi will give him more fans but it will also give him many more haters.

Kaidan is not a popular character, unfortunately. He is also sharing his ME3 existences with another character who is in more than 3 times as many playthroughs he is in. I have little faith that Bioware will put forth the effort to make sure ME1 romances will have unique dialogue compared to new romances in ME3. Call me selfish but I'm more willing to see a new male romance instead of sacrifice a satisfying conclusion I have been waiting 6 years for.

I can definitely understand your worries there, and I'm kind of with you on it, meonly. If it were only possible to have a "everyone gets a Kaidan chance" option with the stipulation that loyalist femShep romances would get shafted in some way, I would be with you 125%. It's by far my favorite pairing/idea, and the thought of it getting pushed to the side is saddening.

On the "if he's bi, people will hate him more" argument...well, honestly? ME3 is the end of Shepard's (and I would assume Kaidan's) story. Who cares if they hate him at the end? Ignorance is ignorance, and they're going to find something to hate about him (or whatever m/m LI is available) regardless. It'd add wood to the bonfire, yes...but when the bonfire is getting doused with water in an hour, who cares? (I'm not very good with analogies, apologies.)

Gah, I talk/type too much! Anyway. Point is, I understand and on one level sympathize with your reasons completely. They make sense. I personally just kind of shrug and go "meh, let them hate." Well, unless my LI gets shafted because of another LI. That stuff makes me go angry-face.

...Yeah, LOTSB and Liara. I'm looking at you. <_<

Thanks for understanding and not just flaming me because I disagree. I've always been more then just a little afraid to make my option known for fear of making enemies. I understand your argument completely too. If his popularity rivaled Garrus or Tali, I would be beyond gun ho about both male and female Shepard romance for him. I would lead the Kaidan romance parade: baton, funny hat, and everything.

Anyways, don't get me started on LotSB. Maybe there was no dossier on the VS because Bioware wants to keep what they were doing super secret. But why not have some information on the...er.. un-VS(?). Or when Liara asks Shepard what she is fighting for why couldn't she say 'I'm fighting for my Kai-bear, even if he is so far away from me.' Makes me more then just a little disappointed that the only way to get anyone to mention Kaidan is to say the 'my best-friend doesn't believe me' line.

Why did I always like the most unpopular characters in video games? Why?!

I highly, highly doubt that the imported romance will be identical to the new romance. Bioware may have shafted the VS in ME2, but they're not *THAT* mean.

I sure hope so

I also share your view (regarding the romance handling), I don't always agree with other people etc but then it's just an opinion and I'm not gonna flame them for it :wizard: We Kaidanites have to stick together.

Well, call me selfish, but as a Kaidan fan and a same-sex romance fan who has been waiting six years to even be included, I'd definitely like Kaidan to be a bisexual option because I'd like a romance that even comes close to the trilogy experience.

I mean, yes, you've been waiting and waiting for a conclusion to your romance with Kaidan (and, to be honest, I am too, because I do have one femShep, who I made because I wanted to romance Kaidan so badly) and I understand that, but I'd much rather have Kaidan finally become available for romance than a brand-new love-interest.

Of course, I'll take what I can get--I'll romance James Vega so hard if he is bisexual. But like the Talimancers and the Garrusmancers, I'd much rather pretend that Kaidan and manShep have been building up two games worth of sexual tension, even if they couldn't express it to one another. That would make my homosexual male romance worth the wait, while "Oh hey James Vega, thank goodness you're here, I've been waiting for the one other gay man in the entire universe to finally cross my path" would be considerably less so.

Flame you?! Nooooooooo! The Faithful (as I've come to jokingly call my friend and I - diehard Kaidan fans) must stick together! We're already outnumbered, and turning on each other won't help!

*checks to the right for her +5 Paragon points* ^_^

But seriously, nah. No flaming. In fact, here! Have a sweet smiling Kaidan picture, because he's why we're all really here (regardless of gender preferences)!!

I get what you are saying Kawaii and its a shame that there was no gay romances from the beginning. Considering there was a lesbian romances with Liara and FemShep. And then again with Kelly. More than a little unfair if you ask me, but than Bioware might have been afraid that they would come under fire for it.

@Meesherbeans, you're telling me we're out numbered. I had no clue about the hate, until I started hanging out more in the forums. My friend who is one of the biggest Kaidan fanboys I've ever seen was also shocked when I showed him the hater comments.

this so very much
except I don't want to make claims as to romancing Vega just yet, I need to see more of his personality
going after Vega if Kaidan is not bi just seems like blowing steam and would be unfair towards Vega; plus when thinking about mShep/Kaidan I can see the relationship of two equals, with mShep/Vega (at this moment with what little we know about Vega) it seems more like two Alphas wrestling for top position

I do really feel bad for all the guys who wanted to romance Kaidan and all the girls who wanted to romance Ashley. That should of been a option from the beginning or at least have 2 bisexual characters..one guy and one girl like DA:O. So everyone has a option if they couldn't have their VS.

After playing ME1 and ME2 I want to get a very good ending to the relationship I've been waiting for. I would be pissed to get the exact same reaction as someone new just starting to play ME3 who is romancing Kaidan. I want some sort of pay off for playing all 3 games. However, those who have been waiting for their chance FINALLY to romance either VS. I think they deserve their own payoff for waiting as well and also playing all 3 games. I think everyone deserves some sort of ending that would make them feel satisfied. Will everyone be satisfied? I doubt it and I think BW is trying to do just that.

'stay civil, mineralica!'

Personally I don't like the Liara's questioning lines at all - especially about Jacob (drinks and dances with Jacob? What? Definitely drinks and dances are all I need during Reapers invasion) and Thane (don't remember word to word, but "spend a little time was left to Thane with him"? Thanks for reminding).

It seems like BioWare follows the "when it rains it pours" - either no info at all (ahem, no news about VS during all ME2 period) or everything simultaneously (Kaidan at "screenshot", Ashley's appearance at demo shortly after and CE pic). So apparently we weren't allowed to have our little reassurance that VS are remembered at ME2... hopefully, to be amazed how great their role in ME3 will be. Yes, here I am, optimistic to the end.
