I had every intention of having my renegade originally "move on" in ME2. Except come Horizon, he walked away from her, when he should have done what she said (because she's arrogant enough to believe that every dances to her tune). She stayed "faithful" as she's currently plotting how to get him back under her heel and punish him.

(She renegaded him as well, but I doubt it will carry over.)

The image that came to mind was utterly disturbing, btw.  Dominatrix Shepard, FTW.

Hmm, perhaps something like that. It's a tad more complicated for the actual dynamic since it turns out she can't truly manipulate Kaidan. Was just offering up an idea for how to stay faithful when you intended to move on.

Honestly, I don't like the idea of cheating on Kaidan with Thane. (HONESTLY, I don't like the idea of cheating period. On Kaidan or otherwise) I see Thane being angry at Shepard when he finds out that she was still kind of committed to another man. Garrus would be VERY interesting since Kaidan and Garrus knew each other and where team mates at one time. Jacob would be interesting too, with the whole Alliance/ex-Alliance thing. But if I was going to pick I would say Garrus just because it has that extra dynamic of Garrus knowing about Kaidan and Shepard. Oh the drama!!!

I vote Garrus, too. His romance is very sweet, and makes more sense considering they've known each other for a while. Plus I feel like the ME3 drama would be more fun with him.

However, I don't really get why it's considered cheating. I would think that Shep and Kaidan's relationship was terminated upon her death. He did go out with the doctor, after all (I'm not blaming him or anything, but he did!). So technically, you could say that he cheated on her too, if that's what we're calling cheating. And after she came back, the only contact they had was a disastrous one after which they both walked away furious. So it seems to me that when they reunite in ME3, it would be more a case of getting back together, rather than continuing an already existing relationship, if that makes sense.

I'm not explaining this very well. Basically, it seems like the first relationship ended, then the second relationship happened, then the first relationship happens again, rather than the first relationship still going on while the second one is happening, in which case it would be cheating.

He thought you were dead, so no, his date with the doctor wasn't cheating. Your choice to pursue and sleep with another man while knowing that Kaidan is out there longing to reconcile with Shepard is cheating. Even if you saw your relationship with Kaidan as terminated, I don't think it could've been clearer that Kaidan did not see it that way. He didn't automatically stop loving femShep upon her death. He still very much has feelings for femShep, and he makes that obvious more than once, and when you know full well that he still loves you, to go behind his back and find comfort elsewhere is cheating. Kaidan will see it that way, at least.

Sleeping with another man when you know Kaidan's still alive and in love = cheating

Crap's gonna hit the fan in ME3, I presume, if you chose to cheat. I stayed loyal, and I'm hoping we'll get a reward for that. It doesn't seem fair to either romance IMO to cheat.

Honestly, I think Kaidan will be hurt if Shepard "cheats," but overall I think he'll say that he can't blame her. The message from him leaves the relationship open for that reason...
We've had this discussion before. Some consider it infidelity, others don't, and that's because BioWare left it so up to interpretation.
At first, I looked at pursuing another relationship as cheating, but then people argued their points and I can see the other side now. From my cannonShep's point of view, her heart still belonged to Kaidan 100%, so yes, romancing another or even developing feelings for another would have been infidelity. But, if Shepard was angry at Kaidan for what he said and considered Horizon a break-up, or only romanced Kaidan in ME1 for the sex, and then started to develop feelings for Garrus, Thane, or Jacob, then no, that's not really cheating. Just my opinion!

He makes his feelings clear, both with the I thought I moved on comment and the e-mail that he would like to pick up the relationship again after your done with the collectors. Then you sleep with someone else on your crew. I think to him that would look like, it took me 2 yrs to even be talked into a date, where it didn't take Shep long to sleep with someone else. That is gonna hurt him!

That is why I won't be able to play my Kaidan/Thane triangle first. Thane and Kaidan are gonna get hurt. That will break my heart. I will have to play it once just to see what happens but I'm gonna feel like a jerk during that playthrough.

Thank you, that makes sense. 

To be clear, I don't think that his going out with the doctor is cheating. I was just saying that if it's cheating for you to date someone between your death and choosing to rekindle your relationship, than technically that's what it was, IF you're holding you both to the same standards.

I'm in the 'I consider it cheating' camp if Shepard moved on.  It might have been 2 years for everyone one else but it probably doesn't seem that long for Shepard, who I see as still trying to get her head around the fact that she was 'dead' and lost 2 years, let alone being resurrected.  I consider this the reason why the dialogue on Horizon was so lame, lol.

For me personally none of the ME2 LI's seemed more appealing than Kaidan and quite honestly I thought all the romances for femShep in ME2 were all pretty cheesy. 
We keep hearing about there being 'consequences' if you cheat but there didn't seem to be any repercussions in LotSB if you cheated on Liara, she seemed to accept that Shepard moved on. So it will be interesting to see just how big, or small, these consequences are.

Oh, wow! Finally someone words it well. That is exactly, 110% how I see it as well. It's not that Shep moved on - it's that Shep moved on that fast. She clearly didn't care for him that much if she jumps into bed with someone else within a month or two (really, how long a period was ME2?) while it took him forever to almost get over her.

For any good ME2 (or ME3) romances, I'm going to have to either kill Kaidan off at Virmire or not romance him at all. I couldn't handle breaking his heart again.. I just couldn't.

I managed to do a non-romance Shep purely by the comic I could not play ME1 without romancing Kaidan. I

Also non of the ME2 felt right. My single Shep is waiting for Vega/Joker/or someone else.

First, while BioWare calls it cheating it is cheating ;-P

Second, at least one romance - with Jacob - may be started before Horizon. So Shepard might start to look around even before becoming sure her [ex] lover is alive and well. Who knows how originally all starts of romances were situated in relation to Horizon. Even if Jacob was supposed to be exception, why this exception is possible?

And third, saying "I moved on!" and doing so after the first conflict where the opposite part had all rights to be at least confused speaks a lot about depth of Shepard's feelings.

Wow I just noticed the Kaidan thread is the second longest here in ME3 area. Go Kaidan! Miranda is first but Kaidan having been only a female shep love interest (for now....)and didn't have such a dirty love scene as her, that's pretty damn good! AND the fact he's from the first game and it seems like most prefer the second.
