I could make a comment about Mac Walters writing here or I can be nice...

*scratches head* Yeah, that's just odd.

Miranda/Jacob/whoever: Okay Shepard, you blew up a bunch of Batarians and now you need to stand trail on Earth. So get in the brig. No, you're not allowed to stay in your quarters until we get there, that would make sense!

Shepard: Lolwut.

Well, not to mention in at least one of my Shep's cases, I can't imagine Garrus standing for it.  Unless they lock his ass up right next to her.

I mean, Avery would go voluntarily.  The only way Meghan would go was if she believed she might be indoctrinated.  But yeah... I look forward to seeing how THAT plays out.

Look forward to your satire on that.

Kaidan: Shepard?  You let them lock you in your own brig?
Shepard:  Shut up, Kaidan and get me out of here.
Kaidan: Not until you tell me if you're Revan or not... oh, wait, wrong game.

My feeling is you first meet the VS when they rescue you. I would love to meet them before hand. But if Vega is guarding Shepard, that means you would meet him before the trail. There are alot of possiblities. In the demo, I think Anderson speaks to VS before the Normandy comes so they are on the ship in advance or in the vicinity. So Kaidan could be at the trail watching but maybe not been able to talk to Shepard.

So many possiblities. That it why I probably will leave the thread a month before release, I dont want to ruin it for myself! Posted Image

Even though My Shepard gave herself in willingly, I suppose they have to restrain her/place her in a temp proson such as the brig incase she changes her mind or for the Batarians to make it look like they are being serious?

You make a good point there...and it actually has as much potential for drama as being behind bars. Kaidan watching, but you're not sure whose side he is on. After all, as Horizon proved, he isn't the same person he was before Shepard died.

Good observation, Sia. It's days after Arrival and Shep is in the brig...where's the rest of the ME2 crew? Not exactly Kaidan related, but interesting.

Okay, Shepard locked in the brig makes no sense on so many levels I can't even begin to think about it.

Fire's right... there's a brig... and who of the crew, who's assests she just saved by the way, is going to lock her in there?

Kaidan is not going to just let her out though... He's a Alliance Spectre... The Spectre might, but the Alliance won't.

I think the whole locked up thing is just for show to appease the Batarians and Shepard came voluntarily (they may take this one out of the players' hands though and it just happens or is implied to have happen etc.)
even as a renegade I can't see my Shepard fighting Alliance peeps or the VSpectre (which may be why they made the VS a Spectre in the first place, because Shepard vs Spectre usually ends bad for the presumed badasses of the galaxy)

I hope the first convo we have with Vega is when Shep is locked up and just trying to talk and Vega probably blocks him in the "don't talk to prisoners" thing

though that's all speculation ... is it march yet?
pretty please ...
can't they just leak the damn intro/trail already >_<

EDIT:

while Conviction is set days after Arrival, do we know if that is also true for the vague image of Shepard in chains?
I mean they knew that at some point Shepard would have to answer for what happened during Arrival, if Shepard was already in custody why would Anderson fly to Omega and get Vega to give him more training, wouldn't they just take someone else who is available?
also, wasn't it said that ME3 takes place months after ME2 'ends', I haven't had time to start a new PT since Arrival was released, so I don't know when it unlocks exactly ...

Exactly, Night. That's just ridiculous. Locked up on Earth? OK, yes. In the Normandy's brig?

Uh.... what?

I also want to believe that there are more sleeping quarters on the ship, because otherwise my Shepard would really be embarrassed by how huge her cabin is, while everyone else but Miranda is hot racking.

the only explanation I can come up with is that its for show. at least for some Shepards (unless they are going to force it... again). leave the crew somewhere where its safe (which is why we have to go back and pick them all up again). and Vega wouldn't exactly be guarding shepard but rather get to know each other, for both their sakes? sounded like Anderson wanted to bring Vega back into the fold. As for Kaidan? when you get on the Normandy in Demo, Ash says Welcome back commander. I think that means that they have already had a chance to chat. add to that a pic of Ash and Shepard sitting in some sort of vehicle? I'm wondering if there's going to be some sort of skycar drive to the trial, where you get to touch base and maybe set the mood for how your relationship with Kaidan (or Ash) will progress from then on?

LOL,
in regards to the bathroom, I have to blame DAO for knowing it exists
when playing ME2 after some DAO it takes me a while to get used to the controls and I end up running into walls ... and all of a sudden I stood in Shepard's bathroom XD

erm yeah ... no Kaida there *sad face*
^
I had to make it Kaidan related somehow, right?!

Arrival unlocks the minute you answer your mail after Horizon.  Since I prefer to play it after the SM, I have to pretend Rachel (the Friend -- oh, hell, I didn't do that on purpose I swear.) got Hackett's message then, and not immediately after getting yelled at by Kaidan.

Good point, my only problem is I can't see Anderson in charge of the Normandy...which is clearly where they are at the end of the comic, Cerberus paint and all...without Shep being in the brig.
The politics of the trial and the events surrounding it can be handled really well...or by Mac Walters. And that's my last bit of snark at him today. Promise.

Don't You think, that Kaidan ( or Ashley) can be just a Spectre, who was send to take Rogue Spectre ( Shepard) down?
Shepard was made a Spectre in ME1 becouse of Saren, maybe now, VS is a Spectre becouse of Shepard.
That's a reason why Kaidan/Ashley could be on Normandy ( in comics with Vega, Shepard was imprisoned on Normandy)

The "vehicle" picture with Ash and Shepard appears to be later in the demo, during liftoff watching the carnage.  The "chair" actually appears to be Shepard's gun.

Shepard-in-Chains may be Vega's imagination.  At the same time, it may simply be a catch-all for all Shepards (the willing will go for show, the unwilling will... not so much).  It also looks like DudeShep to me.  :P

... if there's a brig on the Normandy, why the heck did Legion go in the AI Core?

And finally, I partially suspected the reunion to be pre-trial, but either silent (meeting face to face followed by a fade to black) or off screen.  Thus the "Welcome back, Commander!"  But then a lot could still change before the game goes to print.  *shrug?*

And now I have this image of Grunt holding a camcorder to show the Batarians that Shepard stayed in the brig the entire time.  You make my brain see weird things Criz.

Like others have said, I just don't see it. If Shepard is going to the trial voluntarily, does he/she really need to be locked up in the brig? Why would any of the ME2 crew stand for that? (Especially the Cerberus people?)

Well,

SPECULATIVE ME3 SPOILERS

you're not a rogue Spectre if you've turned yourself in for trial, are you?  You're cooperating with the Alliance, as far as we've seen.  Also, since after the trial, the VS greets you as soon as you get back to the Normandy, I think that they're trying to help Shepard from the beginning.

So, y'all are telling me that dlc and novels and comics of the ME universe aren't just extra missions and such? The new characters and plots have a high importance to the canon? Because if that's what you're saying, that sucks for me. I just don't have the extra money to get any of them just yet. Now I'm worried I won't understand what the hell is going on in ME3.

Just answer me one question: Who is Vega?

I don't want to buy any of the novels, don't have money for the DLC, don't really care about the comics, so I just wiki all that info.

Vega is the new male squadmate you get in ME3.

I just had another look at the comic and yeah, that is the Normandy there in the end, and on second look it seemed like Shepard was supposed to sit there on the Normandy, where Vega passes by and he probably assumes that the N7 he can't clearly see all chained up is a Commander and concludes it's Shepard

the whole going back to training still doesn't make much sense to me and it's throwing me off that the "days after Arrival" note clearly gives it a time setting
unless Arrival canonically takes place after the SM as the bridging DLC and Shepard spends the time between ME2 and ME3 locked up
which could also be the time when the VS comes over for visits and you can eplain stuff ...
and of course they're in the better position because you HAVE to listen to them, while they can just leave <_<

Arrival and LotSB will have taken place whether you played them or not, IIRC.  You'll probably get a short scene or dialogue summarizing the events.  Shepard's decisions actually have no impact on the outcome of those missions.

Also, if Shepard is locked up for a long time and the VS comes over ... I now can't get rid of the mental image of Kaidan bringing Shep some cookies Kaidan's mom made ...
if she tells Kaidan to bring a sweater to Noveria while he has armor to protect him from such environments, she'd also bake cookies for Shepard in prison ... [/end headcanon]

Okay but at the end of Arrival, isn't Shepard told to dust off her dress blues, so if she agrees to go, why would she be in the brig?

I would assume that they only get a quick hello before trial... or else...

Kaidan: Hi Shepard, long time.
Shepard: Where are the clasp on that new armor....
Kaidan:  Shepard, don't you think you can wait until the trial is over?
Shepard : *opening catch*  Ah, here it is, oh and it looks like you're really happy to see me. :P
Kaidan:  Shepard....

;)
