I agree that Kaidan is paragon-leaning. Although I sometimes wonder why he didn't become like Jack. While Cerberus experimentation must have been worse than Conatix, I think it just shows how different personalities respond to harsh circumstances.

I think Kaidan is very much by the book but I don't think he'd stand by if his commanding officer did something that he truly disagreed with. Once he gets to know Shepard and comes to respect and/or love her/him Kaidan would say something if he disagreed strongly with it. He doesn't just follow Shepard blindly and tells Shepard when they 'stole' the Normandy that he wouldn't be there if he didn't think it was the right thing, not to mention his actions/words on Horizon (sorry for using the 'H' word, lol).

No one character, no matter how paragon or renegade are they, is complaining much. Wrex isn't objecting much against sparing rachni queen, Jack is pissed off when you keep CB (Collectors base) but doesn't go for your throat, etc. Guess it will change in ME3, as developers promise indicates.

About "too paragon to go against commanding officer" I'd agree with Collider.

I think its becasue unlike Jack, he had friends in other kids not enemies.  and he was never made to kill his peers, fight them, conditioned to feel high from killing. he also had a good childhood before being taken to BAAt.  I still don't think he would turn out the same as Jack, but who knows how she would turn out in his situation?

He'll disagree when he doesn't like what Shepard is doing (for example, decking Manuel or agreeing with the Terra Firma guy), and he'll argue if you push him. As much as he's a good soldier and follows orders, I could see him disobeying Shepard if he thought it was the right thing to do.

That he tries to see all sides probably allows Renegade!Shep more leeway than anything else.

Excellent point. I think with Jack we got an extreme example.

Off subject a bit...this is my first Renegade playthrough. Is their any possible way to get people to be loyal to you in ME2 and be almost at 100% renegade? I have fallen in love with Renegade.

Yes, but you have to commit to renegade to make sure you have the necessary speech checks.

That's one thing that got me about ME2... the paragon/renegade system wasn't skillpoint based and therefore forced you to pick a specific play type.

I have a question: Why do so many people dislike Kaidan? I don't see it so much around BSN, but on other gaming forums I visit he's practically the most hated character (aside from Jacob). I personally love him, as I'm sure most of the people in this topic do

I have no idea why other people don't like him. What I can say is that a lot of us on here tend to think that it's because Kaidan is a soft-spoken man, and that doesn't resonate with a younger, more headstrong audience. He doesn't go around killing things or talking about killing things and liking it, which seems to be a desirable trait for the game's target audience.

Personally, I appreciate Kaidan's restraint and decorum and wish that more characters would be like him.

Probably because of the whole Carth issue. I really hate people for that because I *want* to hear Kaidan's voice. :| (How funny is it to be a deaf Kaidan fangirl? XD)

There are many reasons for the Kaidan hate :
1.  the Carth syndrome because they were voiced by the same actor and Carth is seen as whiny because he has emotions
2.  Kaidan is a human male, instead of a badass alien, who doesn't have any problems that need fixing which equates to him being boring apparently.
3.  He mentions headaches once in game so therefore he whines about headaches.
4.  He doesn't fall down and kiss Shepard's feet on Horizon
Just to name a few, lol

*sigh* Oh Carth, my favorite of all!
Carth Onasi is the male squadmate/love intrest in Knights of the Old Republic Bioware's excellent Star Wars RPG. (And still my favorite game all-time). He was also voiced acted by Raphael Sbarge, the same actor who did Kaidan.
