I totally seeing Kaidan getting drunk, maybe not in a bar but hanging out with close friends (Shepard) then yes. He strikes me as a cocktail kind of guy. Bourbon, vodka, etc.

I don't see Kaidan getting drunk either. just becasue he's in a military doesn't mean he automatically has to get drunk to have a good time. but aside from personality and the fact that he feels that he always needs to be in control, his L2 implants also create another issue. headaches. he has issues with loud noises and bright lights. he tends to keep to himself to minimize his headaches.

I could see him possibly sipping on something in company of close friends, but I don't see him actively getting buzzed, let alone drunk. too much risk of losing control of his biotics, too much risk of causing and/or aggravating his migraines.

I think he's capable of having fun without having to get intoxicated and I honestly don't get the idea that in order to be a manly man, you must enjoy drinking with buddies, or something.

Kaidan doesn't get drunk! He's too self-controlled. He'd probably have allow himself to have a drink or two, but he would be aware of his limits and stop well before he became inebriated.

Yeah, I think after Vyrnuus, he just doesn't want to be in a place where he might lose control.  A slight buzz is probably all he'll allow for.

@meonlyred:  lol, that pic might change my mind...

My reply:

Oh, and thanks for the link, TeenZombie! *yoinks the KOTOR mod >_<*

Yeah, I don't think he'd really bother with drinking all that much -- more of maybe social thing. I don't think he'd be the kind of person to get drunk out of grief.

Yes, there was, but couldn't begin to know how to find it. It went to wherever old tweets go...Twitter heaven?

For me, this is interesting because I'm curious as to what exactly he's been up to the past 2 years. And actually, what he's been doing the time when Shep was flying around kicking Collector booty.

I'd love to see some updated info in the Lair when we hit it in ME3. A full dossier on Kaidan would be so delicious!

P.S. I just know Kaidan was spying on Shepard the whole ME2 time. With the contacts he must have now? Well, I don't know, but I strongly suspect Kaidan hunted down every scrap of info he could get on your activities during ME2.

Besides, wasn't he supposed to still be investigating "Cerberus"?...nudge, nudge--wink,wink.

I would think with his biotics, it would be hard to maintain a mild buzz, speedy metabolism and all. But yeah I don't think Kaidan is really a drinker.

I think I see Kaidan as a light imbiber too; and if he ever did get drunk, he'd be giggly and funny as hell.

Besides, based on what he says in ME1 at Flux: "Gambling up above, drinks and dancing down below. Good place to blow off steam." Something like that, I might have gotten the quote backwards... Anyway, I don't think he would mind cutting loose with friends once in a while.

Remember, some "friends" also talk him into going out for drinks with the doctor on the Citadel. He must have a few buddies trying to help him out.

I also love the little banter between him and Ash when you walk into Chora's Den. Kaidan: "It's got quite the, uh, view."

Humm..

I didn't mean to pull out man/ woman comment. It was poorly worded. I know some women in my region who can drink some men under the table, but that doesn't make them more manly 8). I just figured as uptight as Kaidan is, he has to do something to unwind? Maybe that is a better question? What do you think he does to relax then?

I did, infact, lapse in thought about his unstable biotics. It would be very dangerous for him to lose control. And the headaches would be most unfortunate.

My angle with the comment was more of a character development question. It would be nice if he "came out" (Haha) of his hesitations and reservations. We know he is always careful.. but do you think we will see him loose it in ME3?

Btw and side topic: When you mentioned losing control of the biotics.. for some reason I thought of Jean Grey and the Phoenix. And I was sad and mad at the same time. If he were to become uncontrollable and we had to kill him, would be pissed.

Aileo brought up a good point here too. All you who want to settle down with Kaidan... could you imagine how much you will spend in groceries!!

I would be very wary of Kaidan "losing control" in ME3. Kaidan's control in the first place was why I liked him, and it is a defining part of his character. I understand that it's often something desired in his romance - where he would be a little more aggressive or risk taking, but too much and they will be missing the point.

Well that is actually my point. How us fan's would see it done. I am pretty sure this thread isn't all about swooning and questionable photos... or maybe it is?

I am trying to steer it back to see how some people would like to see his character grow? Him losing it by starting out cold to Shepard.. then "crying" and love finally? Or maybe shouting match and make-up sex?

I was only trying to be productive

Hmm... as for what he would do to unwind-- probably tinkering with gadgets (at least that's from what I'm guessing based off of him being at that spot in ME1) ... maybe some reading?

As for Kaidan losing control, biotics-wise-- I don't think that'll happen again (or at least he'll try his damnest to make sure it won't repeat.) ... we've seen the emotional bit. x_x I like to think that he very rarely ever loses control and that it has to take a lot to push him over the brink.

ETA: Of course, if his parents are in the city where the Reapers invade... that's not going to go over very well. (Was this confirmed for sure? I just know that they have a retirement property there!)

I'd like to think that he would keep gaining more confidence in his ability to use his biotics without having to hold back ALL the time (he already started in ME1). I think... he might be cautiously civil with Shepard at first, trying to gauge where he stands with her/him. I could see him losing some of that self control if Shepard pushes him too hard then reigning it back in swiftly. crying... not sure... probably not in front of Shepard, though holding back tears and emotions stiffly - yeah. I
m hoping to see his sense of humor showing up more often, I hope he will voice his opinions more freely. but I also think he'd be more weary, cynical, less idealistic. I hope it doesn't mean that he'd start thinking that cutting corners is a good idea, but I can see him possibly being somewhat more ruthless, more accustomed to loss and dealing with it.

oh yes, unwinding :P  reading for sure.  he used to love reading as a child, I think he still reads.  I'm wondering if he might have started reading poetry as well, thanks to Ash.  and for some reason, I can totaly see him playing video games, galaxy of fantasy especialy.

Oh I hope so. This comment right here is why the first time at Virmir he didn't eat the nuke 8).

See, I do think he is going to be more cold just from his photo. It is somewhat an icy glance. I don't know, just maybe me.

And I wonder if Bioware will play its card again, where we can "Harden" our crewmembers... especially Kaidan or Garrus. (Although from ME1 to ME2.. if Garrus isn't harden or not by ME3, he has issues)

We could play this game. What kind of drunk do you think Kaidan would be? Or even your Shepard?

Neither.  Although my Shepard wants to see Kaidan drunk for personal reasons, it never happens.

I think that if he did get drunk, he'd probably either get a little silly or be on the quiet side - but I rather think he avoids it.  I don't think he'd be able to maintain a biotic field drunk, either.  "Metabolism" has little to do with drinking tolerances, as far as I've been taught, so I suspect he'd be average in that department, too.

Oooh, maybe he found something that made him think he messed up on Horizon???  Maybe Miranda realized the "Tatical" error TIMmy made with how he was interacting with Shep and led Kaidan to something, anonymously.  :wizard:;)

Edit.

The only thing that could make Kaidan "loose it" is Shep cheating, I think. Not a problem for my SHeps.

So much this! I love to imagine he plays games (and gets thouroughly beaten by a player who has been accused od being a "cheater" several times B)

@Criz: I now what you mean, I hate tight clothing as well = / My haircut isn't really boyish but I too am mistaken for one occasionally. As a little child I was soooo girly, I often think I'm trying to make up for it right now xD

No make up for me either. And I have a (probably completely irrational) hate for the colour pink... Yeah, Phoenix armor I'm looking at you <_<

All he needs to do to be a manly man is catch fish with a spear, while wearing no shirt...and screaming.

Random thought. Kaidain doesn't do casual sex, and I admire this.

I may of asked this on the old thread but do not remember so

In Mass Effect 1, at the final romance scene, if you reject sleeping with Kaidan, does that turn his romance flags off for Mass Effect 2?
Or is it simply an... alternative path for the romance?

No, it doesn't unflag anything. You just decide it's not the best time to do the deed.
