@Batteries - yeah, I think most of us did, lol. Unfortunately there is still a lot of hate for Kaidan and Ash though. But I think a lot of people who generally lurk have come out of the woodwork in support of them with ME3 coming closer and the fact that the VS plays an important role.

70%, really? I can see some people choosing to do that, but that many? Wow. Does that take into account how many people actually played the first game, though? The Genesis comic shouldn't be used for those statistics.
That's assuming they're true, of course. One of my English professors always said to use statistics in an essay if you're trying to persuade, even if you just make them up, you'll sound smarter. I didn't buy that...

I'm quoting here from the July 2011 PC Gamer mag that had an article on ME3. Bear in mind that this was written before the release date got pushed back to March 2012 (article gave a release date of 'Holiday 2011') so some statements may no longer be 100% accurate and should be taken with a huge grain of salt...or maybe thousands of little ones, preferable around a margarita glass:
"Your romance options get interesting as well: there will be no new love interests in ME3, so who you can sleep with depends on your existing relationships. If you coupled up in ME and your squeeze is still alive, they're guaranteed to be a member of your crew. If you weren't faithful to them in ME2 - and 70 percent of players weren't - that's going to come to a head at the worst possible time: the end of the world."
I kinda wonder where they got that 70% figure - gamer poll perhaps?

It definitely plays a role. Had the achievement been also obtainable by staying loyal to your previous LI from ME1, I'm sure the proportions would be different. Or if there was 'single Shep' achievement, like there was Bachelor achievement in Fallout New VegasMageTarot wrote...
I've always wondered if players kinda felt forced into persuing a romance in ME2 just to get the achievement.

I just didn't think the ME2 romances available for femShep were as good as the Kaidan romance. Kaidan's romance seemed to start with respect and friendship, it felt like a slower build up to those in ME2 which I found too cheesy for my tastes. (says the person whose fics are the ultimate in cheese, lmao). My Sheploo stayed single in ME1 (mainly because I didn't particularly like Liara or Ash) but ended up with MIri in ME2, not for any particular reason though, apart from the fact that I like her, lol.
