A weapon which doesn't really seem to fit him as a character.
But, I suppose they didn't really have that much to choose from.

that's why I assume that if he does start using a shotgun it'd be more out of trying to balance squadmates than anything else.

Can't you give any squadmate any gun in ME3?

I was under the impression that was just Shepard but you could be right
Still, seeing Kaidan with a shotgun is a bit odd

Maybe it is, I can't remember exactly. I only recall hearing something along those lines.

The devs have said that squad mates have 2 guns to use, like ME2.

I thought it was strange the lack of biotic training talk or being a biotic in general. You would think that is something they would talk about. Yet all you have is one mention of Biotic Shep is more powerful than a L2. I just see that being something biotics would chat about. The writers should of put a little more into that. You would think they would bond a little more due to having to go thru training and how biotics are viewed. *shrugs*

Yeah, I don't see Kaidan as a shotgun type of person, he's not an in your face kind of fighter. I really hope the writers stay true to his character and don't change him too much. Granted, we don't know what he's been doing for the last couple of years and what extra training he might have had, but I can't see his core personality changing.

I also hope they drop the whole Kaidan/Ash cookie cutter thing they had happening in ME2.

For kids, i imagine Shepard would want to adopt, think about all the orphans in the world, especially after the reaper invasion? And also especially if she was Earthborn. I think she might adopt 1 kid.

There's always the option to help out Shepherds, Conrad Verner's charity (if you paragon and don't get him killed).

If Conrad Verner is not in ME3 I just might not get it.

That's a lie, but I hope he'll show up.

As far as I remember ME2, all the shotgun squaddies have suicidal inclinations - they try to get as close to enemy as possible while only Grunt is able to do it and survive.

But if Kaidan will have abilities similar to Miranda in ME2, giving him far more suiting for personality sniper rifle will make him overpowered as hell. And Kaidan with assault rifle will give strong "Kaishley" feeling.

Edit: very nice picture. I assume it's wallpaper?

maybe the Shotgun was just for show?

You're my new favourite person for coming up with that.

On another note, i am actually glad they waited until now to make Kaidan bisexual for John Shep. I dunno why, i feel it would have felt odd in the first and second game if they had put it in. With it just emerging in the 3rd game, it's kinda of a i-had-gay-feelings-for-you-for-ages-but-was-in-denial-but-now-i-feel-ready-to-come-out type of deal, and i dunno, i think that's cuter

Well, he isn't officially a s/s romance yet, so far it's just speculation. All they've said is that there will be s/s romances but haven't announced who. I'm hoping that they don't go the DA2 route and that they only make the new characters bi, but I think it's a forlorn hope.

*delurking*

Been a while since I posted, I've been busy gaming. After reading this thread I craved KOTOR...so I replayed 'em. Then jumped straight to Dragon Age...which I had never played. Finished it last night. Oh. My. God!

I loved it! I had seen that pic of Alistair, Kaidan and Carth (somone post for me plsssss?) And wondered what the fuss was about. *swoons* I'm in love. And it got me thinking about ME3....I hope they make Kaidan more accessible to us, like Alistair was. I wanna kiss him whenever I want to, and say "time for bed honey" all that jazz.

I now have high standards for my interaction with Kaidan in march....kissing, cuddling, marriage, the whole nine freakin yards.

Sheps didn't go to BAaT because it was already shut down. According to the wiki timeline, Shep's biotics aren't even discovered until he/she is 17. That part of the timeline is based off the ME1 codex entry for Shep, I believe. (Working on my origin fic, teehee!)

I had not noticed that Kaidan is carrying a shotgun in that image until it was mentioned on here. I think it was just done for looks. It would look strange to have one of the two big dudes carrying a small pistol. The pistol is still totally awesome though. My vanguard uses it as much as she uses her shotgun. And Ugh! It still bothers me that Jack goes running off all suicidal with her shotgun unless I remember to order her behind cover. She is not half as badass as my vanguard and my Shep knows to keep behind cover sometimes.

Kaidan with a sniper rifle... Dreamy! But I'm okay with him keeping the pistol and smg.

Personally, I'm in the "wants everybody to be bi" camp in theory, but in practice, I know it's not very feasible in the last part of a trilogy.  I don't think, for instance, that Ashley would wait till the last minute to make her feelings known, if she's interested in someone...but I can see it for Kaidan.  I'm not even planning to do a m/m version of the Kaidan romance, if it's available, but I feel that the writers could pull it off for him in a way that's not ham-handed, if they make the effort.

Anyway, everybody knows that it's easier to confess to romantic feelings to FemShep, since she's a total maneater-sexual-harrasser-vixen (I KID).

Yes, they didn't say anything about who. But our very own Raphael Sbarge let it slip that BioWare told him there will be s/s Kaidan romance. Of course nothing's 100% confirmed till it actually makes to the shipped version in the game and there's microscopic chance Raphael could've been drunk and imagined things, but based on what we know, chances are high Kaidan is bi.

every squadmate decides to be a ****** and switch to a weapon they don't use in ME1 at some point

Looks like Kaidan might be going shotgun in ME3 if his picture means anything.

This is why I hated weapons in ME2.  My Sentinel Shep was so very happy with her pistol in ME1, and then thermal clips come along and force her to use weapons she's not trained in. She got so sick of it that she basically abandoned guns completely and just used her biotics.

So maybe on Horizon and in the ME3 picture,  Kaidan just ran out of thermal clips for his pistol.

@Case If you can equip it in ME2, you are trained in it. I never really have a problem running out of thermal clips, except maybe on Insanity when you have to really fill an enemy full of lead to topple them. The pistol and the SMG (which the Sentinel is trained in) have different effects on enemies depending on whether they're shielded, have a barrier, or armor. SMG may take an entire clip to whittle down armor while the pistol can tear it up in just a few shots. Of course, at higher levels, gun choice doesn't matter too much, but it still can make a difference when you're low on clips. :) It's fun to be tactical. Switching between weapons was the only way my Vanguard made it through Overlord on Insanity.

I like the thought of Kaidan running out of thermal clips and switching to a shotgun, though. Made me lol.

I think the problem in ME1 was that they'd switch weapons after cut scenes and sometimes at the start of a battle. I just got in the habit of checking them once in a while.
