How long will it take Shep and Kaidan until they can't keep their hands off one another?!?! Any guesses?

I've heard something about that consequences of cheating will bite Shepard in the ass closer to final of game... I hope this doesn't mean "lazily progressing romance with sudden sex before final mission".

However, my femSheps who romancing Kaidan aren't going to rush things - Alyson is rather cautious because she doesn't know how two (three?) years and SpeCTRe status changed Kaidan and if she has any right to get hands on him, Mona, as always, sure that the problem will fix itself in next days... or nights, and Ingrid prefers to concentrate on mission and very clumsy when speaking not aggressively. My only lady who likes to press things... romances Jacob (at least that voice is in character for her).

And for games - Skyrim. of course. How much I miss open spaces and loneliness of TES series...

Question for everyone: What was the very first game you played start to finish that turned you into a devoted gamer?

My Answer:
I played many games when I was a kid, but didn't really catch gaming
fever until I was an adult. When purchasing xbox games for my boys a
number of years ago, I picked up a Lord of the Rings game called The Third Age.
Since I've always loved LOTR, I decided to give it a try one day. I
played it from beginning to end, and from then on I have been hopelessly
addicted to RPG style games and especially to ones that have romance.

I think I was born a game addict. If only you see how much time my mom spends at Plants vs. Zombies. But the first game which really caught me was Age of Mythology.:)

Same. I love to steal and I love dragons.  When my character leveled so high in Oblivion, I enchanted a set of armor in 125% chameleon and even when I stole while not in sneak, nobody could see me.  It was funny going though Oblivion gates and killing stuff while totally invisible.

@sugaafoot, I love the Fable series too. I was going to replay Fable3 a few months ago, but one of my kids seems to have lost it. I'm sad panda because I know it won't turn up until I buy another copy. Damn Murphy and his irritating law.

@LadyofRivendell :o How I missed hearing about that game, I have no idea, but thank you for telling me. I will definitely  be getting it. Hooray, another game to fill the time until March!  Also, yes Sean Bean is Martin. He is a dream to me. I still read fanfic that saves Boromir. I was tempted to write one, but I'm still stuck writing Haldir. <3

@jeweledleah My hubby played the Indiana Jones games...they made him yell at the tv...alot!

Final Fantasy II on the SNES (which is actually FFIV, long story). I played NES games like Mario, Bart vs. the Space Mutants, Little Mermaid, the first Final Fantasy, and things like that, but FFIV is the one that got me really hooked on RPGs, especially JRPGs.

The past few years I've been favoring WRPGs more (Final Fantasy has gone downhill, Shadow Hearts was cancelled, Tales games take too long to come out and we never get all of them, BUT they're releasing a new Suikoden game, yay!), especially Bioware's games. I played KOTOR2 in college, which prompted me to play KOTOR, but I never really started playing Bioware's games until this year.  The husband got the DAO: Ultimate Edition and DA2 Signature Edition this year; I played those until he said I was addicted, so I asked him if he had Mass Effect 1 & 2 (which he did), so I played those until it drove him nuts. Then I got a new computer and bought Jade Empire off of Steam, along with KOTOR, and re-installed KOTOR2, and I've been basically cycling through those. (except JE, I love it, but I need a new gaming controller).

I'm addicted. I could play video games all day, every day. :D

Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy, somewhat.

Saw that come out while renewing my Star Wars love.  Thought it was cute, so played it.  After finishing most of it, I wondered what other Star Wars games there were.  On one message board I frequent, I saw KOTOR mentioned favorably, so gave that a try.  Well, you know what they say about "try".  ;)  Played KOTOR for months on end (missed the romance the first playthough after not completing Carth's sidequest), and still play though it once a year or so.  I credit BioWare for helping me be an informed PC user: with each game of theirs I bought, I learned more about PCs and upgrading/changing/tweaking.

The truth is, I never fully completed Lego SW.  Did all the sections, but didn't fully complete all objectives.

War in the North is looking somewhat promising, but I don't think any LotR RPG will come close to a Bioware or Bethesda game (sadly). Ah, I can still wish that BW got the rights to LotR, though  If you ever do write that, I'd love to read it (although Aragorn is my favorite :P) Actually, I don't think I've ever seen your fanfiction page. Do you post fics online?

Sad to hear about your Fable 3 disc as well. Despite all its complaints, I loved Fable 3. ^_^ I never actually played the original Fable, although I've heard it's much better than the second or third.

Edit: Derp. I see that nice shiny link that says "My Fan Fiction" in your signature.

@Chylise I really need to try the FF games, I know there's at least one out on xbox. I like some JRPG's too. Lost Odyssey was fun.

@Pax We love Lego Star Wars in our house too. My 2nd son is a huge Star Wars fan and has played it a dozen times...as well as KOTOR 1 and 2.

We have a little of every type of gamer in my family. A couple of my kids are PC snobs and try to educate me as to how superior computer gaming is to console gaming. Little do they realize that I would have to take over THEIR computer to play since my stinks LOL. =D

EDIT: @LadyofRivendell Just be warned, all my fiction is exceedingly M-rated. Read at your own risk.

Can't remember. Been gaming since 1995 and had been trying to beat whatever I owned. First game I actually beat at the age of 8 was a Power Rangers game (MMPR: The Movie for the Genesis). Been the "Weekend gaming warrior" since then. Sadly, retirement is coming after ME3, just because there's no other noteworthy game after this other than maybe BioShock Infinite, True Crime: Hong Kong (Square Enix picked up the property, but won't have the True Crime name), and PROBABLY Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Bekkael, why no Mass Effect fics? I'm loving the Hawke/Anders fic I'm reading now, I'm sure you could write Shep/Kaidan well, too!
Also, I've seen a lot of sporting for Cullen/Hawke, was there something I missed between the two while playing the game?

Oh no, that's FInal Fantasy 13. *shudders* I wouldn't recommend playing that one first. My favorites are 1, 4, 6, and Tactics. I enjoyed 10 and 10-2, but only for the awesome gameplay/job system, the storyline is severly lacking.  7 and 10 seem to be the most popular. Also, don't do 11 or 14, those are MMOs.

I would love to write some Shenko, but I would have to do a lot more research into ME lore and read more codex etc to learn the world better. I never realized how much research was involved in fanficcing until I started to write it. My LOTR story alone cost me untold hours in research and I still haven't finished that story.

As to Cullen, no you didn't miss anything really. He's part of the mage origin in DA:O and you can flirt with him a bit. His voice just seems softer when he talks to Hawke in DA2 (and he also voices Anders in DAA), and his character matured so much that I and other Cullen fans concocted a Hawke/Cullen romance in our minds. :P Many still prefer to imagine him with the mage Warden, but I have fun writing him with Hawke. I have vague hopes of him becoming a companion in a future DA game, based on how they handled his character in DA2.

@Chylise, I guess I will just have to hold off on the FF games then. I hate buying a game and then disliking it. *stares accusingly at KUF: Circle of Doom* :?

Research? Like what? I'm just curious, as I write fanfics in my off time (or during college history lectures ) but I've never really done any formal research for them.

As for FF games, I'd recommend 5, 6, 7, 9, and (yes, I'm saying it) 12. 5, 6, 7, and 9 all have the best characters and settings, IMO, but 12 has great gameplay, leveling, and an open-world-y feel.

:D Thank you. I really would like to do some. I may just need a good writing prompt to get my writing juices flowing. I don't know. I'm just afraid I'll do a bad job, and I don't want to put out something crappy. No disrespect to other hobby writers, but I've read some really awful Mass Effect stuff, and I'd hate to add to the pile. (None of the writers from here, but random FFN stories I stumbled on of poor quality and very OOC Kaidan....just to clarify)

Probably my biggest block is that Kaidan is such a "inside-his-own-head" type of character, that I think he could be tricky to write well if you're not inside his head with him. Also, there's the issue of fleshing out who your Shepard is and what kind of character she would be with Kaidan. Anyway, I'm rambling here. All that to say: thanks, and if I write any Shenko, I'll let you guys know. :P

Well, using LOTR as an example - I felt I needed to have at least a rudimentary knowledge of the world/locations/races/character backstories to do any type of justice to even an AU story like I'm writing, so I read everything I could about Haldir and elves. Then, there's naming original characters, researching Sindarin and Quenya so elvish names make sense, making decisions about marriage/joining and death/fading in elvish society based on my interpretation.... So, yeah, research is a big part of writing for me. I write with a dictionary of elvish webpage up, an English dictionary, (because there's nothing worse than using the wrong word), and a map of Middle-earth.

For Mass Effect, unless I was just writing a little romantic one-shot, I would need to know quest details I was writing around, like names of people and locations, and would probably reference the ME wiki alot LOL. Maybe I'm a research freak? :P I just think in storytelling, there's some strength in the details. Shutting up now! :pinched:

EDIT: That link is funny, but I need something sexy or fluffy and romantic to come up with anything. :wizard: I write a in a very predictably boring narrow niche.

What you do is have them upgrade it for you.  They can research what goes into it, what is needed.  It would be a great learning experience for them.  If you happen to get a better computer out of it, all the better.  :)

That's a great idea in theory, but since the oldest isn't quite 17 and nobody but my hubby works...yeah, hubby doesn't want to put any more money into either of the desktops at present. The kids use them for school and they're good enough for that. I'm happy with my 360 for now. When some of my kids leave home, we'll probably look to upgrading. ^_^

Question for everyone: What was the very first game you played start to finish that turned you into a devoted gamer?

I've always been a gamer since the day my dad bought Commodore 64 (I was maybe one or two at that time) and when I couldn't play games on the computer yet, I'd watch either my dad or my sister play games and I was all "oooh" and the games that my dad bought were always AD&D rpgs :P

My own first game for C64 was TMNT (Konami USA's former name: Ulta games) but I could never beat it because the games in those days were STUPID HARD.

The first game I really finished would be FF8 for PC, funnily enough. I've had played other games over the years, AD&D (but could never beat the final boss and there were too damn many games under that brand), Blizzard's Warcraft I & II, Bioware (oh you guys).

I'm a PC gamer first, console gamer second. (My consoles are PS3 and Wii as of right now.)

I got into Mass Effect when one of my friends gave me a Steam copy for Christmas last year and I didn't get around to it until Jan/Feb (I think) and I was like WELL GOSH DARN WHY HAVEN'T I PLAYED THIS EARLIER. (I've already known about the game because my boyfriend has the 360 copies of ME and ME2.) Then while in middle of Mass Effect, my boyfriend stealthy got me a copy of ME2  as a surprise gift. XD;;;

After beating both ME games, I decided to go back and finish KOTOR because I was stuck at the pod races (for some reason, the game declined to mention that I needed the space bar to win the darn races!) then I got more Bioware games dumped on me for my birthday. (Jade Empire and Dragon Age)

tl;dr: Always been a gamer and that won't change. <3

Ah, Pokemon. My first video game ever was Yellow, back when I was four. I actually learned to read from that game. My first read words ever were, "Hello, and welcome to the world of Pokemon." I still remember that night, I'm so proud :crying:

The story should use love triangles as a plot device!

I can actualy see how that would work O_O

I think the strangest crossover I remember from the generator is: Your challenge is to write crossover fanfiction combining Lord of the Rings and My Little Pony. The story should use being drafted by the NFL as a plot device! I also ran in to a crossover that said: Your challenge is to write corssover fanfiction combining Mass Effect and Bioshock. The story should use the first day of high school as a plot device! That one had me laughing for a while, too.
I actually wrote some of these back a few years ago.

What turned me into a gamer was a combination of Pokemon Sapphire and Elder Scrolls Oblivion when I was in 11th grade. I remember I tried Pokemon as a joke because I had always thought I was too cool for such childish things back when I was a kid. Now I'm 21 and not ashamed of my Pokemon addiction. How things change.

Random, but Kaidan related: I tried out Mass Effect in January because I was obsessed with Dragon Age and I kept hearing how awesome BioWare's other game was. I never got past my Spectre induction, I was horrible at it and didn't feel interested enough to work at it until I got better. Near the end of June I decided to give it another shot and beat it in a week.

I wasn't all that impressed with Kaidan at first but went ahead and romanced him just because he was there. I did, however fall in love with Garrus because I think he's absolutely adorable. I decided to make another playthrough where I'd romance Kaidan again because I didn't do any sidequests or anything the 1st time through, then I'd make a canon Shepard that I'd keep single for Garrus. In my 2nd Kaidan romance I fell so in love with his character that when I got to my canon playthrough I had to romance him again and she stayed loyal to him in ME2.
*Please don't think I'm slighting Garrus or his romance because I still love that turian, he's just that Shep's bromance.
