on another note: at the end of ME1 when you send your squaddies to make sure Saren's dead ... did Kaidan ever shoot Saren?
I lost count of my playthroughs, but I think I never had Kaidan shoot him no matter the combination, first or second selected squadmember and regardless of who you pick aside from Kaidan ...

No.  Kaidan's at the bottom of the list there.  (Maybe if you hacked to have only Kaidan, but I've not thought of it before, thus not tried it, thus not sure how that'd play out.)

Interesting... Does that mean Ash is on the bottom of the list too? Just curious if they take the character's personality into account when it comes to stuff like this - more aggressive/trigger-happy characters higher up in the list - or if they happened to lump Kaidan and Ashley together again.

Who's a sexy soldier? That's right you are!
Ahem....

Heee love this. <3 And from Sakuna, no less! I've seen a lot of her Dragon Age artwork before; glad to see that love carrying over to Mass Effect as well!

actually I have a screenshot of Ashley shooting Saren ... I got one for all squaddies except Kaidan
hence the question

also when you rescue Liara and confront the krogan, there's one moment during the conversation when some debris falls down on the team, but only Kaidan seems to react to it as far as I recall.
I think it also depends on the dialog option you choose ...

As far as I remember from a discussion about it, the "Shoot Saren" list is (First to Kaidan): Ashley, Wrex, Tali, Garrus, Liara, Kaidan. From my experience, Kaidan doesn't shoot and Liara, Garrus, and Wrex will all shoot.

And it doesn't take into account Renegade/Paragon, Kaidan/Ashley.

Kaidan, unless renegaded, is always the most paragon squadmate. Ashley is somewhere at the top of the renegade scale - along with Wrex and Garrus - I think Wrex is the most renegade. he will advocate to save the council over Liara if not renegaded and I'm not sure if he shoots Saren even if renegaded. never renegaded him myself, so not 100% sure.

also - interesting fact. I'm not sure if Liara also feels it, I'll have to load up the nearest save and check, when I have a chance, but if you talk to him near conduit on a Citadel - he will comment that he feels the humm, that makes his teeth ache. everyone else just comments on the looks, but he senses the dark energy emanating from it.

So, the only why to get Kaidan to shoot Saren is to have Tali with you? I'm a bit confused. I swear I saw an ending where Kaidan shots with Liara. Made me think it also depends on your LI. But I can totally be wrong and I can't find that youtube video right now to prove or disprove my point.

My understanding is that whichever squadmate is more renegade will be the one to shoot him.

And I have a question for you all.  Is the fact that Kaidan is a spectre considered a spoiler?

As far as I know, Kaidan never shoots Saren, ever.  If someone managed to trigger it otherwise, I'd be interested to know.

There was a thread about this in the ME1 story section a while back, though.  Someone claimed to have Tali shoot over Wrex, which I didn't remember... I don't know whether it's Kaidan/Ashley specific and randomized in the middle, either.  It seems like it'd be either all random or all fixed... although I suppose it could be random but weighted?

I haven't gone through enough playthroughs (yet) to be of much help with the who-shoots-Saren deal, but the one time I had Garrus and Kaidan with me it was Garrus who dealt the bullet, if that helps narrow it down. It's good (and unsurprising lol) to know that Ashley's higher up in the tier with regards to that, though.

Yeah, I think so. It's shiny new ME3 info that hasn't been touched on explicitly in the earlier two games.

I like Kaidan because what you see is what you get.

I play MShep, and I must say I laughed really hard whenever Shepard walked up to the man in ME1. That was some incredible sexual tension between the two men. Even if I dislike homosexual romance, I love it when there's a giant derpy moment like that. One of the many, many reasons I always pick Kaidan over Ashley on Virmire.

If looks could remove clothing...

Yeah, I know what you mean. There seems to be alot of unspoken sexual tension with most characters and Shepard. He/ She is an exceptionally sexy human, apparently.  :)

Plus Kaidan is just that damn hot.

Maybe Kaidan doesn't shoot from this simple reason that he stands on your right side? If you could pick Ashley with him there, he maybe could perform that animation. But usually he's always "on the far left side of the list".

Hmm, the Saren shooting thing reminds me...do you think Kaidan will still be the most "paragon" squadmate in ME3? It would be in keeping with his character as we knew it, but then again, three years have passed, and he may have changed somewhat.

I do also worry that the writers will try to "toughen him up", because of all the complaints that he was too wimpy and whiny in ME1. I honestly think it was mostly because he was a human, and a human male on top of that. If Human Male Party Members are not badass like Zaeed, they are considered wimpy and whiny by a portion of players automatically. Changing Kaidan to try to appeal to them would displease me...

I think that Horizon shows that Kaidan has been toughened up. And so does the fact that he's now a spectre. 2 years of mourning and almost dying on the Normandy also helped with that. He's not the same idealistic guy anymore.
But no. I don't want him to be changed into someone like Zaeed. Only immature gindergamers think that guy's the pinnacle of coolness *rolls eyes*
I would, however, like to see Kaidan get an awesome action intro where he kicks butt with his biotics. He could use one.

And shameless plug:
I've finally updated my R&R Shenko fic. So chapter 15 is now up.

I wouldn't mind seeing him with a tougher edge, like the difference between Hardened and Unhardened Alistair off of DA:O. Same person but more willing to make a stand. Maybe yell "You bastard" at Udina a few more times. I also wouldn't mind seeing him punch someone to say, defend Shepard's honor. But that is just me.

I see them renegading him slightly just because I don't think there is an import flag showing that you renegaded or kept him paragon for the romance in me1. A mix between the two would solve that and not make the writers have to have 2 different lines of dialogue for almost every scene. It can also be explained away that Shepard's death affected him, hardening him or softening him up depending on how he acted at the end of you me1 playthrough.

However, I don't want to see him lose his quirky dry humor, I greatly miss his quick clever comebacks between him and Ashley and Shepard. That is what I loved most about him. This might be kind of weird, I would like to see him with a headache, that is something MaleShep and non-romantic-Shep got to see and romantic did not.

I liked Alistair, but he's still so much boy.  Kaidan is ALL man.  ;)

Hey guys... I'm new to this thread but have always been a Kaidan fan since ME1. Just scan through all 40 pages.. good god. I love all the images posted here. <3

Any who, my question is, if you turn Kaidan more "pro-humanity" in ME1, do you hope for this to play a part in Me3? I do. ;<

I'd hope that renegade!Kaidan would stick, but other than that, I don't really want to see a more edgy Kaidan.  One of the things I liked about Kaidan was that he's plenty tough, he just didn't wear it on his sleeve.

Which is a nice change from all the, "I'm overcompensating for something. FEAR MY BADASS!" type alpha male heroes out there.  -_-
