How does one have a "bad" American accent

Prominant? Clearly recognizable? I don't know. I guess it didn't bother him though. I still got the job, even though I couldn't speak much Afrikaans then beyond "Goeie more!" Which means good morning. :P

Wow bad accent:blush: Never heard of that! I've heard of we speak good english and bad english. I've heard people say we have a sexy accent before.

Love the Black Keys, didn't know they were from Ohio though. :P Guided By Voices is from my hometown...

Hey, I'm from Ohio too! Northeastern part. I remember talking to someone in California about going to school there and I can't remember what state she thought I was from but when I said Ohio she was like "yeah I figured somewhere Midwest." I remember thinking, "I didn't know I have an accent!?!?" ../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png I hate it here though

Yay fellow Ohioan! I don't think it's a terrible place, but I am pretty tired of the midwest in general. haha Nobody thinks they have an accent because accents are all relative!

Okay, I feel silly because I had to google this Hadrian's Wall. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png

Coming from Southern California that wasn't in our history books and somewhere that wall never popped up in conversation before. Interesting. I've been to Ireland, France and Italy but I've not made it to the UK yet.

Yeah, in America it's all about America. You don't spend much time on world history in school. And when you do, it's relevant to America. I only know about Roman history because I took Latin in high school and my boyfriend is a classics major. So don't feel bad!

Also, since we're on about accents. I have so many things bookmarked about accents because they fascinate me..
Here you can listen to different accents from English speakers all over the planet.

And this details different accents and dialcts of North America, complete with map.

And to get back on topic...

Fat Kaidan makes me laugh for some reason. Along with Senor Kaidan up there. ^^

Estoy muy feliz de conocerte! Tu es muy guapo. Me gusta tu sombrero mucho. :innocent: I cannot stop laughing at him. He looks like he is giving someone the burrito. He is saying "You want this? . . . ."

As each year (meaning every year I was in school) I spent doing history on the American Revolution and Civil War and everything America did in WWII I'd think I'd be a master at it rather than wince at the subject. /offtopic

SO that Kaidan.
I hope we can totally share our armor. Even mix and match!

I don't really notice the WV accent unless it's recorded.  The first time I heard my voice on a video I freaked out because I had honestly never realized I sounded so "hick" and when our previous governor was interviewed on BBC my reaction to the way his accent sounded compared with the British reporter was

I kind of wish there were more accents in Mass Effect, we really only have Miranda's Aussie accent.  You guys got me all interested in SW:KOTOR and I found out that it worked on XBox 360s so I got it.  I know Kaidan and Carth are both voiced by Sbarge and you can tell clearly in the games that it's the same voice, but for some reason Carth's voice I love more.  I've come to the conclusion that it is because of nostalgia- I just haven't heard enough Kaidan lately so I'm more attached to the voice than I was when I played Mass Effect.

Recently only play KotOR, I think Carth had a lot more dialogue and I ended up loving his voice so much more, being able to hear it more frequently. I hope that's the case in ME3. Some PC's seem to get all the dialogue in ME1/2. :?

More accents in ME? I thought Zaeed speaks differently from the rest of crew, and there's Ken. And majority of Quarians. Though I'm not an expert in accents so may be just wrong.

And about dialogues: recently caught myself replaying DA2:Legacy just to pick another party and hear more banter. I hope BioWare will take hint that fans prefer it when squadmates are chatty? :innocent:

As a fellow American I can sadly attest to this. I know what I do about world history because of the copious hours I've spent plunging into various books as well as Wikipedia and from conversing with friendly folks from other countries on the internet. I really wish they taught us more in primary school though.

That's public school education you refer to though, is it not? As a homeschooled student, I received a good deal of exposure to the history, culture and geography of other countries that I likely would have missed in an Alabama PS. :P

Now, as a homeschool teacher to several of my children, I use an array of social studies and world history texts, as well as doing a thorough sweep of ancient history, which many middle schoolers don't seem to get. I find the history of other countries fascinating. Wish I could travel to visit them all. ^_^

Er, sorry for off topic.

On the note of where we live:

I'm from Canada, actually, right near Bioware, they're like a 3 hour drive from me. When I was up in Edmonton recently I saw a guy who looked just like Vega too... This guy was a cop too XD I think bioware does take random people off the street o.O

Yep, public school. I grew up in New York City until I was eleven and the rest of my education was in Tampa Bay, Florida though, and there is a tremendous difference. Which state you're in definitely has a huge factor on what you or your children are going to get out of public education, I can't stress that enough. I experienced it firsthand and even as a child it blew me away.

That's definitely good that you're teaching those things to your children. They're going to thank you someday for sure. :wizard:

At last time this thread was attempting to find guy Kaidan was modelled after I've heard that Joker was modelled after a guy some dev met in a cafe, so statement about random people in the streets might be very true:P

:o:P I got made fun of the other day for posting the exact same thing on another board. I usually catch on to any innuendo, but someone else (haha! a guy, of course) actually had to point it out to me. I was also referring to MP, not to Kaidan or anything. Although....

lol ... I'm always surprised when people say they find Aussie accents sexy, must be cause I hear it all day every day ... but yes I do agree with the Irish ones!

Eh, you English/Aussie/Irish/Scottish/EveryOtherCountry people are lucky. You can sound sexy by default. Count your lucky stars you are not cursed by the worst accent in the world: American. Blech. <_<

I have to confess to finding a Texan accent VERY sexy....... I like American acccents, don't put yourself down :) I don't find Australian, Scottish or Irish accents sexy (I do like listening to Glaswegians but it isn't sexy and I prefer southern Irish to Northern) I have nothing against them, but they aren't sexy *in my ears* lol... Geordies are sexy (Newcastle, UK) German, Italian and Spanish are also very sexy. We're all different and you think it is not sexy because you hear it all the time, is all... :D
It's all good, wouldn't do for us to be alike :)

And hey that American accent seems to work fine for Raphael.... There's an American voice we all never tire of, right...

Edit: Buggeration. Too busy to find ToP again. Must dash in and out like some sort of Northern ninja.
