It's a question about Ashley's hair in Mac Walters interview with fans, but there's a Kaidan mention too and it looks like they're putting VS at the pedestal! :o

“AdrenalineTwit: why the change to long hair for Ashley?”

JM: I want to tack on to that, what kind of interaction does the writing team have with the designers. I’m sure when you guys are writing you might have something in mind for how a certain character looks or how someone carries themselves so what is the relationship between you and the art team to get a cohesive look?

MW: We work, especially major characters such as followers of villains, we work with Casey the Executive Producer and Derek Watts and whoever the character artist is. What we usually do is supply them with a character’s backstory and history – things that will help give them inspiration. For instance, when we were writing Kasumi we knew that she was going to be Asian so that was part of her profile. We don’t always give that much detail on the character but a lot of times it is a back and forth saying things like, ‘I pictured Zaeed a little older and with more scars.’ They’ll work with us on that. If it’s a major major character like say The Illusive Man, the vision will come from someone like Casey himself. He’s got a specific vision for it and it’s up to him and the artists to sort that out. Then I’ll write for that persona that they’re creating. It’s a fun relationship with the artists because there is a bit of a back and forth. With the minor characters it’s often up to the level designers because they have a face morph system with the ability to create an unlimited number of heads so we’ll say, ‘Yeah this guy is middle aged, he looks like he’s been through a lot’ and they can give us something that looks unique and also fits the bill.

Ashley and Kaidan especially, we didn’t see much of them in ME2, and we really wanted to give the sense that they had grown and their character had preceded forward. We wanted that to be apparent when you see them. When you first meet Ashley in ME1, she’s kind of a grunt. She has the short hair and is in the trenches as a soldier. But now she’s advanced, her rank is higher now and she’s got people reporting to her now and we she should have a slightly more sophisticated look to convey that visually without even having to say anything.

''She's got people reporting to her now'', why does that worry me? Like, you know an excuse to not have the VS around? ¬_¬
Damnit, being a Kaidan fan makes you really cynical, right? :o

That bothers me as well. How much will he actually be around? Now I'm gonna be worried he is going to get killed while I'm not around.:crying:

I think it's just a general thing about her (& Kaidan's) rank. People were reporting to them in ME2 already as well, they were leading the Horizon mission. Don't panic yet, stay positive! :D

I asked about getting more info on BAaT and possibly Kaidan (embarassing stuff) via Hendel, but the question wasn't picked
they did however answer in relation to Kahlee and Gillian
it boils down to trying to get people into ME3 but they 'may not be around' or something, which I read as being pre-occupied with book-stuff or well ... they died in the books
but saying more would be spoiler-ish blabla, the usual *sigh*

by the goddess I know that's how it is, but still, the fan in me cries for more info!
and I'd prefer the Hendel-is-not-going-to-die-in-the-books-before-telling-Shep-stories-about-baat-and-teenage-Kaidan kind of info

Good job Criz! Even though the question wasn't picked :( I asked Mac Walters twice on Twitter about it already but he never responded :(

But what they say makes it look very likely Hendel will appear, can't wait what he will have to say about Kai!

But we have to panic, it's part of our Kaidan fan remit............. :P
And Horizon is precisely WHY we are worried about their rank keeping them away......................... :?;)

I've been worried about that ever since I read a snippet from Jennifer Hale on LiveJournal. I wonder if I can find the link...

Anyways, if I can't, the article was Hale discussing some of her ME3 voice work. She mentioned one part in particular, she had to shout, "Let him go!" and "Let her go!" two times each, one in an angry, threatening voice (I'd assume Renegade) and one in a panicked voice (Paragon probably). Afterwards, she had to shout, "No!" several times as well, once in an angry tone, once in a frantic tone, and once in a defeated tone, which she described as a breathless whisper. The kicker is, she said all of this pertains to the VS, and the tone of voice varies as well if you romanced one of them.
Really wish I could find the link, as I'm looking you'll just have to take it on good faith that I'm not lying.

See, it was at that point where I began panicking about keeping Kaidan alive, and my duct tape idea began to form. I know my duct tape idea will work, I'm telling ya B)

That sounds very much like someone/something has VS :o But I guess that it could involve a choice to save or leave? Like a rescue mission that might mean you can't help someone else or they are taken for the purpose of Shepard running to save them.... iyswim? :crying:

I cannot see Ashley Williams going into combat with her hair down like that.

Don't see a problem - if BioWare want people to report to VS, most of my Shepards will gladly agree to fulfill such task:innocent:

I was more... thrown off balance by "Ashley was kinda grunt and kept her hair short" - first, I strongly doubt "grunt" would make it to Gunnery Chief, considering the reputation of her family; and second, I don't buy that "got more sophisticated"(read: appealing) look equals character growth.

Oh, and that wasn't short hair - it was practical hairstyle on possibly rather long hair:whistle:

True, but it does fit with the much more high-profile/representative position she has now IMO.

True, if she would switch back to practical while fighting Reapers?;)

I'm just worried what "more sophisticated side" of Kaidan will be.

Do you think Kaidan is at the trial? How do you think he ends up on the Normandy during the attack? He has to be around to end up on the Normandy.

Also I was reading the apology Horizion letter from him and when he says, but a lot has changed in the last two years and I can't just put that aside. It's very vague to me. What do you think he is saying? Put what aside? He can't just leave to go off with you? That is how I kind of took it.

Ok Kaidanites I have a question regarding my main Femshep w.Kaidan...

I REALLY wanna replay ME1 with her again... however I hate her ME1 look compared to ME2

Should I

A. Just grit my teeth and replay her original ME1 file?
B. Basically do it over from scratch? Like Teddy 2.0? Same class/profile etc..but a fresh one

Checking Phedon's(sp) known info thread, it seems that Kaiden/Ash are at the trial and help, along with Anderson, to get Shep off earth during the invasion.
