@jeweledleah

Hey, you're entitled to view Kaidan as a one-hundred-percent, never-had-a-gay-thought-in-his-life straight male, but like a lot of things in Mass Effect (and Bioware games in general) his feeling towards manShep can be opened to interpretation. Those of us who speculate and gush over the possibility of bisexual Kaidan in ME3 aren't any "better" or "worse" fans than you are. Same-sex supporters, non-same-sex supporters, we all have varying levels of enthusiasm, but "gushing" or the refusal to "gush" doesn't make one a "bad fan." We just have DIFFERENT ways of expressing our admiration of Kaidan.

'Cause that's what we're all here for, right? The love of Kaidan? Excited fan, muted fan, femShep, manShep... we're all FANS, and we should all be welcome on this thread.

There will definitely be a conversation about "Why now? We've known each other for so long. Why did we wait until the Reapers were at our doorstep to finally say how we feel for one another?"

I mean, come on. That's bound to happen. I doubt that Kaidan-romance will be restricted to femSheps who romanced him back in ME1, or femSheps who used the pre-game comic to establish and existing relationship with him. There's bound to be people who go into ME3 single.

So, if Bioware is going to go there anyway, why not go there with manShep? The dialogue could easily be stretched to accomidate manShep. Would that be my preferred means of implementing same-sex content? No. But from Bioware's perspective, that would be a good way to get the most out of their reasources, and I could easily see them doing so.

It couldn't be really just copy+pasted from FemShep dialogue. "Why now?" wouldn't work in the situation when Kaidan assumed Shep was straight for the past two games. Sure, many lines could prolly be easily reused, but they would have to ackowledge the fact Kaidan wouldn't say anything to ManShep in ME1 either way since he thought Shep was straight.

Question. Is it possible in FemShep playthrough to talk heavily with Kaidan and never activate the romance, never be forced to turn him down, never flag "you've made it clear to Kaidan you ain't interested"?

And then copy-paste everything from the Kaidan for S/S Romance group and the Fight for the Love group. ;)

1. in my signature, I have 2 links to posts made by 2 of the ME1 writers. one of them is Patrick Weeks. they deal with the whole "Kaidan was meant to be bisexual" issue as well as the hidden dialogue.

I have to agree with you, I was never really sure Kaidan/Ashley were ever meant to be romantic for same sex Shepard since the dialogue was only recorded on Meer's and Hale's side. In romantic dialogue Kaidan always refers to Shepard as a woman. And after hearing that male ManHawke has all of LadyHawke's dialogue too I'm was pretty much for sure that the same thing happened.

"And its down to 25 mutineers, why to go Team Milky Way" That almost makes me want to Renegade him, almost.

To be honest... I wasn't too comfortable with the possibility of Kaidan being an S/S option. My main reason being that it might be too out of the blue for him to suddenly swing both ways especially after having several references to him liking women. BUT after giving it a lot more thought, I realized that it's not really that far a stretch to find out that he's bi; if anything it says something about how flexible his views are/have become about the world. If S/S does push through it'll be an opportunity for us to see a side of Kaidan that we haven't touched on (lol) before. And who doesn't want moar Kaidan?

So, yeah. Long story short: don't hold back on the Kaidan loving! Male or female, s'all good to me! :wizard:

While the 'Kaidan's-head-photoshoped-into-a-human-body' pictures scare the crap out of me... I don't really care for the other ones. I'm all for M/M Kaidan, so meh.

When are you not?

Yup, it says the idea was abandonded to due time constraints. Also, you do know Patrick was just a junior writer on ME1, came very late in the project and only worked on a dozen or so side quests?

2. whenever people mention sexual tension with Kaidan - I want to slap them silly. there IS NO SEXUAL TENSION in that "walk up to Kaidan" scene.

Many people saw it, even some straight guys. Is it me or is this "there's no sexual tenstion!!!111jewel111" only your own view on it (just as everyone else's)?

Hell - he barely talks to maleshep, you are missing at least 2 conversations and a lot of details.

Untrue. You're missing romance-specific dialogues obviously and one dialogue after Eden Prime. As ManShep he tells you everything about BAaT, his headaches, his opinions on missions, Vyrnnus etc. The only detail you don't know about him is his parents which isn't even important compared to his BAaT story, exposure etc.

3. Horizon was a badly lazily written piece of s**t, stop bringing up ONE line from it as your proof.

But it's there and part of the story and up to interpretation just as any other scene, just as well written ones.

4. the whole bull about Kaidan being sooo gay because he's nice, has good hair, is soft spoken, whatever else reasons come up with that are based on anything BUT actual sexual orientation? stereotyping much? do you really want to support those stereotypes and biggots perpetuating them? whether they add in bisexuality to Kaidan or not, whether they open him up to new romance or not - how he was portrayed in ME1 has NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS SEXUALITY. well except for things he actually confirms, like being monogamous and taking relationships seriously.

Who. The. Hell. Talks about this in this thread? Or in the FFTL one? No one. It's only some immature straight guys that laugh at him being gay for the stuff you mentioned. You're just making up things now.

Depends on how you mean.  As far as I know, there's a chance to shut down the romance before it starts (... two, actually, in the same conversation) and you can miss the Citadel conversation for a nice, clean platonic friendship.

That's pretty much what I was going for. FemSheps who try to start a completely new relationship with Kaidan in ME3 will have a lot in common with gay manSheps, so with minimal effort, Bioware could easily include Kaidan as a bisexual option.

Good question... I've no idea! This makes me wonder if femSheps who go into ME3 single will be able to activate a romance with Kaidan at all, if she previously turned him down... It's something to think about!

I think this has become a Gay Kaidan only thread and other opinions aren't allowed. I am very offended by the 'het is ew' and if that is what this thread has become...no point in me even reading it any more.

you know, I'll be fine with s/s relationship with Kaidan. my personal preference is that no new romances are allowed with old characters, period, but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting THAt, so I'll be fine with more options to more people.

as for why now? because he wasn't into maleshep at the time? is it such a hard thing to accept? gay people are not attracted to all the other gay people all the time. straight people are not attracted to all the other straight people all the time. relationships happen when you are friends or even acquaintances with someone and you never see them romantically and then something happens later on, could by something as small as them simply telling you that they are atracted (Shepard telling Kaidan or whoever) and interest grows from that.

there is simply NO evidence on ME1 of attraction and considering how "well" Kaidan manages to hide his attraction to femshep, regardless of whether she's interested or not (and plenty weren't interested at all, just being nice, so that excuse about how he didn't think he had a chance? doesn't cut it) - I'd say that's evidence enough regardless of orientation that Kaidan was NOT attracted at the time. and giving him a secret crush ala Tali - character derailment.

nothing about Kaidan suggests that he could never be atracted to men. that much is true. but claiming that he was crushing on maleshep in ME1 and saying that this would be good writing? RIIIIGHT.

and what Jaer said?  yeah, it certainly starting to get the vibe

Absolutely feel free to post your Kaidan/femShep material. In fact, I think we had some about three pages back, and no one went "OMG HET IS SO EWWW!"

Now, if you want to post a biography of your femShep and how sparkly awesome and unique she is, there are better places to post. But Kaidan/manShep is a legitimate way to support Kaidan, as is Kaidan/femShep, and it should all be welcome here.

For what it's worth, I haven't gotten that vibe from reading that thread and all of my Shepards have been hetero thus far, male and female.  It just so happens that a lot of the current posters are more interested in mShep/Kaidan, possibly because most of the older Kaidan fans with FemSheps are trying to avoid the spoiler section of the forums.

Dhiro you should know better. The sexuality of fictional virtual characters relating to a romance subplot that encompasses perhaps ten minutes of measurable content in an action RPG is deadly serious business over which one's opinions are no joking mater.

Agreed.

I will most likely never see any m/m content, so it does not affect me, but I know what it's like to enjoy a character, want to romance them, and not be able to.  And as long as the writing is good, I will be happy with whatever the writers come up with.  There was a time I wasn't even sure we'd get Kaidan back as a team mate in ME3.  If making him more appealing to other players means that he'll get more screen time and a better role, heck yeah, I'm all for that.

I'm actually having problem finding a context in what it wasn't funny. That said, I'm sorry that my joke made you unfortable. I won't make it again.
