Quite frankly, ManShep may just as well have Kaidan in his trailer. He's already on the very first promo pic with Sheploo released (which I was like shocked to see)

I'm sure if I just googled this I could find the answer, but I'm also sure someone here can tell me exactly how to "renegade" Kaidan during ME1.

I'm currently running my main Shep to get her to 60 (finally) and then start a fresh new (loyal) playthrough for ME2, and I figured what the hell might as well try something new w/ my most favorite biotic

Thanks!!!

Any time you get the chance, encourage Kaidan be be more xenophobic. Pretty much pick Renegade options any time the Council comes up, or how awful aliens treat humans. He'll come around to your way of thinking, and be a LOT less eager to sacrifice human lives to save the Destiny Ascension.

I can never bring myself to do that, though... Kaidan is such a good guy that I almost always use him as a moral compass. Any time he's screaming, "No! Don't do that!" I always, always listen to him....

Aaaand I guess that's why I romance Kaidan, and not Garrus. :P

Renegading Kaidan:

In this conversation, around the 4:15 mark.  Take one of the charm/intimidate options.

Thank you both so much!

I have to wince at some of the renegade responses that Shepard makes...can't say I'm too excited to take Kaidan down this path either. I'm just so determined to try and experience every aspect of the game and relationships first hand.

Forgive me sweet, innocent Kaidan!

I did it once with my Xenophobic character. It was interesting to just see another side of Kaidan--just like it was when I played as a mShep.
But no. I didn't really enjoy seeing him that way. I like the nice, sweet, idealistic Kaidan of ME1.

I love renegading Kaidan. Although, my Shepard does it more out of distrust towards the Council than aliens in general.

I don't really like renegade Kaidan either. I like him paragon and political-minded. Something my Shepard is not. ^^

A question: was there a specific "Kaidan" theme music in ME just like all the main characters had in ME2? I'm curious. And do you guys think Kaidan will have his own theme or do you think he will be bunched in with Ashley?

I hope not. I think he deserves his own theme music because he is awesome.

By the way, in viewing his reveal photo for ME3, is he wearing Alliance officer uniform like Anderson's underneath his armor?

I am afraid that, because one of them (Ashley and Kaidan) can die, this will create a Carver/Bethany situation in ME 3. In Dragon Age II, both sibling were amazing (though Carver gets less love than he deserves), but they don't have that much screentime because both of them have to share one character budge.

Considering that they'll probably have to record different lines for a Alive!Kaidan and a Alive!Ashley, do you guys think they'll have less screentime so they won't cost too much?

I think it's just part of his new design, not so much of something he's wearing underneath (even so, thinking of Kaidan in uniform is always just so yummy Image IPB)

If you look at the alternate appearance pack for Miranda in ME2 she has a similiar collar type thing underneath her armor as well, and I really really doubt she'd be wearing an alliance uniform

Oh gosh, I hope not. There's absolutely no reason for Bioware to cut corners with this game. The extra development time, the fact that this is supposed to be an epic, crowning end to a trilogy.... I certainly hope that Bioware will use Ash and Kaidan to their full potential. They're very different characters, and should have developed in different ways over the course of ME2... I hope that we get to see lots and lots of them in ME3, and I have faith that Bioware won't shove them aside because it "costs too much" to give them screentime.

If they get the Carver/Bethany treatment... I will be very disappointed. Please, please don't leave me in the middle of the game, Kaidan. :(

@littlenikki - Thanks. I never bought the alternate appearance pack (even though some of the new designs are cool) so I didn't know about the similar designs. But I like how every character has some sort of color scheme they align themselves in. I mean Garrus has blue, black, and now like a chrome? colors which I find it thumbs-up. Looks like Kaidan will be blue since he is alliance after all. There really wasn't a color palate to any of the characters in ME, but there is now in ME2. I like that. It gives more uniqueness to each characters. I wonder if he'll have more colors than just blue.
I noticed Ashley wears blue and black from GameInformer magazine. I kind of liked her Phoenix armor colors.

@Dhiro - yeah I know what you mean about Carver and Bethany. I was sad that they didn't get the screen time they both deserve equally. But each game is a product and they cost money.
I really hope Kaidan or Ashley display unique lines, but I kind of doubt that since Kaidan is a replacement for Ashley and Ashley for Kaidan. Like I said, money is the limit.
But they are back for the third game, maybe they will get more screen time and have pivotal roles now that they are Spectres and everything. I hope they will play more into the politics and be a liaison for the Alliance because I don't think Alliance will trust Shepard even though Reapers are attacking Earth. After all s/he did worked with Cerberus and/or could be not that much of a xenophobe to put Alliance interest first.

tbh I'm not really too concerned that Kaidan/Ashley will be recieving, or not recieving as it were, any less lines or screentime than any of the other companions. I mean, from all the squadmates so far confirmed more than half of them could be dead in certain playthroughs. I highly doubt Garrus or Tali will be limited to screentime just because they could possibly have perished during the suicide mission, ya know?

Edit: They had to keep the VS alive after ME2 for a reason! And that is not just a desperate grabbing for straws reason either! Image IPB

I think they'll suffer "partial personality merge" - for example, we'll have one mission with Alliance involved (something Grey Box - related, I think) with plenty of screen time for "Second human spectre", where the general plot and situations will be same no matter who survived Virmire and only their actual lines would change depending on personality.
This doesn't create more variables than usual "dead-alive" dilemma, so sounds pretty close to reality, as for me.

Totally agree with this ^^. They've already said Garrus will have more to say, since everyone got so bored of his 'calibrations' everytime they went for a natter, i don't believe they'd have kept the VS alive through ME2 just to have them have one or two specific convos and thats about it (ala bethany/carver).  I suspect with ME3 we'll have a bigger focus on the ME1 squad (except wrex) i just hope whoever they bring over from the ME2 squad doesn't get the 'calibrations' treatment.

I also wish they weren't adding more companions and taking away some of the ME2 squad, i'm sure James Vega is fun in his own way, but i'd much rather trade him in for Kasumi or Mordin.

I wonder if we'd even get a full, permanent squad as we used to in ME1 where you could pretty much recruit everyone about the first hour or so ...
it's always tricky to judge from some line in someone's tweets, but the number and members of your squad available to you may fluctuate throughout the game ...
but I hope we keep Kaidan around for most of it :D

Met Raphael Sbarge at Albuquerque Comic Expo (going on through this Sunday). I was selling some vg fan art (had 2 from Mass Effect) with my original stuff when some of the organizers noticed my Kaidan print and introduced me to Raphael. Very nice guy! :) He actually took the time to sign all of the prints I had on hand, and was great to all the fans he spoke to at the event and his panel.

FYI: He's more than happy to sign screen caps for fans as well (if you want to bring in a print of your ME character hanging with Kaidan, he'll sign it for you). He talked a bit about his vg voice acting work in his panel, I was very impressed with his theatrical background and his explanation of the process he goes through.

Mass Effect 3 Update from him: For those wondering, he has started recording his lines. He's definitely not done yet. A podcaster asked if he was going to be recording lines for m/m romance, and he confirmed it and said he was all for it. (He said voice actors prefer emotional scenes, and not 'screamy' scenes.. like being on a dragon and screaming :P I wasn't sure what that reference was).

Kaidan: Shep, I made you some coffee.
Shepard: Kaidan, you make me feel ... human.
Kaidan: Just returning the favour ...

yeahyeah I know, in the romance scene Shepard is fully dressed again while the LI just wakes up ...
still I gave Kaidan taking care of Shepard more weight than Shepard being the first to be ready

don't ask me where they get matching hoodies, PJs and mugs ...

Whilst this is true I simply meant that *any* new trailer is an exscuse to have more and newer Kaidan shots/footage. And FemShep trailer is hopefully the one that we will be getting next

GASP.  That's so awesome!   I'll have to check out his convention schedule, since I'll be at at least two later this year.

And that ME3 update makes me so happy.  Seriously, folks, let's just all be happy that even more of those who really like Kaidan will be having a chance to experience his romance too.
