I think Kaidan just barely weaseled past Alistair in the romance department, I love both romances so much. The only thing I dislike about Alistair's is how passive he is, and the circumstances that allow you to be together in the end. Anders would probably be third; he's great when he's not taking about Mages and Templars. Which is... What? 10% of the time?
Never romanced anyone else in DA2 or ME2, and I didn't go through with Zev's romance. I did like Morrigan's, though, while playing as a male character.

I still haven't met Carth yet. KotOR keeps crashing on me when I try to open it, I guess it really doesn't like Windows 7!

So... I have a kind of... odd question. Does Kaidan ever mention if he's a virgin or not in ME1? He doesn't mention any past relationships aside from Ranna (I think I misspelled her name?) and also says he doesn't take relationships lightly. Just my random wonderings.

I got the same problem with my Windows 7 and had to buy the Xbox version. <_<

I agree with Jade on the last part. I always assumed there had been that side to things with Rahna. Brown chicken brown cow. ;)

Why didn't I just buy that instead? Gah.

It works fine on Vista. But yeah. I have KOTOR for the old Xbox too. I think the graphics are better on the computer though.
I love the banter with Carth. That makes up for his angst later for me.

But something I absolutely LOVE about Kaidan is that there's nothing you have to fix for him. There's no mission you have to complete for him. He's a whole person as he is. And he chooses to not only follow Shepard, but to actively support her and help her to stay on track without asking for anything in return.

@Lady, one thing I ALWAYS do with Alistair's romance, hardened him before I invite him to my tent. If you do that then next time you return to camp, Alistair will come to the Warden and ask to sleep with her. I forget all he says but he tells her that he was waiting for it to be perfect but he realized it might never be perfect. He goes on to say that he doesn't want to die without being with her. It is a nice change to see Alistair take charge.

@Jade, I also got the impression that Kaidan had other intimate relationships. He probably could count his lovers on one hand, but Shepard was most definitely not his first.

I didn't even have to harden Alistair for that :P I just kept talking to him and talking to him and talking to him just tiny bit of flirting but no outright invitation (my warden was umm.. female version of alistair in that regard, very shy :P ) until there was an option to say "I like you and not just as a heir to the throne"  next time we were in camp I got him to invite my warden.  the funny part about it is that because it happened so late, I actualy got the rose conversation after the tent :P

and yeah, I got the impression that Kaidan hadsome experience. iactualy think some of it happened during the time when he went away to collect himself, after jump zero (or I may be projecting Sebastian on him O_O)

strange... Kotor seems to work fine for me on Windows7. I have a steam version though, I don't know if it makes a difference.

Cuz the XBox version is buggy as hell and plays funny. :pinched:

I never had a problem with KotOR on Windows 7, but then I put in a new ATI video card and it stopped working for me. People have posted hundreds of fixes to make it work on newer computers. Mine was to install the ATI Catalyst Control Centre (well, my husband did it, he's the tech geek). Now it works fine, except for when it kept crashing right before leaving Taris, which I solved by turning movies off.

Plus if you play on PC you can get the Carth romance mod, and the Dark Side Romance Mod for Carth, and other mods. :wizard:

So, um... do any of y'all read my collaborative fic with Jillyfae and Sapphyreelf?

If so, we've updated it today with a Shenko Chapter.  Persephone Rising: Chapter 31 is now up.

I actually would like to know if y'all do read it.  We haven't been advertising here since it seemed to be futile.  If some do read it, and like our notices of updates, we'll keep linking it here.  Otherwise, I hope y'all have subscribed. :wizard:

I know this is really late, but I read it and I am subscribed! It took me a couple chapters to get into it but I love it. I think I spent 2 days during the summer catching up, reading chapter after chapter.
Haven't had time all day to read Ch. 31, but going to go read it now and wait patiently for you to update Loved. ;)

I wish I could compare DA romances to Mass Effect. Sadly, I haven't played it yet. :(  SO EXCITED TO THOUGH.
It seems like there is a good diversity of favorites from DA  here, which is kind of funny considering how we all agree on Kaidan.
I think I prefer Carth's romance over Kaidan's. Just because of the flirting and banter in KOTOR. Plus, it was my first Bioware game. I love Shenko as a couple more though I think, and the locker scene and before-Ilos scene still give me butterflies.

Edit: KOTOR also works fine for me on Windows 7, except that the scenes sometimes minimize the game. But I also have the Steam version.
Played it on xbox first though, and it was buggy I guess, but I just thought that was due to our ancient xbox....

For the past 3 hours I've been trying to make KotOR work. 75% of the time, it crashes after the Lucas Arts logo. 25% of the time I can make it to the main screen, but it freezes, sort of. I can't use the mouse or arrow keys to click "Load Game", so I have to Alt Crtl Del and exit again.
I don't want to disable movies, although I've heard it helps, and I prefer to use my mouse (disabling it is also a fix).
How much will I miss by disabling movies?

Some of the movies are just filler, like your ship taking off/landing. Some of them are story-wise, but it's not too big a deal if you miss them because Bastilia explains them right afterwards. And there's one big one that really shouldn't be missed your first time playing.

I'm currently playing KotOR on my 360 and it's working pretty well considering it's an Xbox original. The sound sometimes jumps or cuts out and a couple times the game has slowed down in battle so bad that I couldn't control my character for awhile (they all just kept using the default attack until it caught back up or finished the fight) but those are the only problems I've encountered. Keep in mind I tend to ignore bugs and such, the game is far from smooth even without the problems I mentioned but it's good enough for me.

I agree with this. He's already come to terms with himself and he accepts and supports Shepard as she is.  He always served as a voice of reason for my Shepard.  That's why when I rationalize what happened on Horizon for her she is mad at first but comes to understand where he is coming from.  She decided that while she's thankful for all of her other ME1 squadmates who automatically trusted her and joined her team in ME2 she would have been disappointed in Kaidan if he had done so as well.  That's because to Joker, Garrus, and the rest of the gang she is Commander Shepard, she always knows what to do to get the job done and they fully trust her to do the right thing.  Kaidan on the other hand knows her more personally, to him she's not just Commander Shepard but a normal person who is just as fallible as everyone else.  She doesn't want Kaidan to blindly follow her but instead to use his own judgment to decide whether what she's doing is right or wrong and act accordingly.  Sure Horizon still hurt her, but she figured he deserved the chance to vent two years worth of grief.

Disabled movies (grudgingly) and now I'm playing! Except...I have no clue what I'm doing. I'm so awful at computer games, and the fact that I'm sitting on my bed using a laptop doesn't help much with the control issues.

About the same here.  The only problems I had with it were weird sound glitches and long loading times (and the latter isn't unusual for the Xbox 360 anyway hhnnnnngghh).

I agree Lulu. And through the whole of ME2, my Kimbri would ask herself what Kaidan would have her do if she had to make a decision. So, in a sense, he still was with her through the game.

Wow LuluMae, that is amazingly insightful.  I may need to adjust my Shepards' thoughts about Horizon a bit (mostly understanding but dreadfully hurt and wondering why he couldn't trust her just for a moment).  You have definitely giving me something to think about.....

@LuluMae - that is how I like to see Kaidan/Horizon as well, you just put it into words much better than I ever could have!

I just did Horizon this morning with my paragon Shep who'll stay loyal to Kaidan and I must admit that after doing ME1 (I went straight to ME2 on PS3 then backtracked and did ME1 recently) I dont hate that scene quite so much. After getting to know the characters better and after seeing how many Cerberus bases, plots and schemes you encounter/destroy in ME1, I would have been disappointed had Kaidan (or Ash) not responded the way they did. They should be suspicious of Shepard and her link to Cerderus and Horizon isn't the time or place to go into that ... they both have their missions and the mission is what matters.

Thanks, here I thought my ramblings on Horizon would be TL;DR.

I figure my Shepard went through stages after Horizon.  First she threw a raging fit, then she holed up in her cabin depressed where she spent a lot of time thinking it over.  Kaidan's questions over whether she was still truly herself and if she was unwittingly being controlled by TIM really hit a nerve with her because she is really uncomfortable with the whole resurrection thing (and as a sole survivor has a special hatred toward Cerberus) so she had already been carrying a lot of the same concerns.  He just validated them in her mind.  She's been distant with everybody, even those she counts as friends, because of it and she'll probably be the same way with Kaidan at first in ME3.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how they work through it in ME3. Kaidan's email made her feel that their relationship isn't hopeless, but she still doesn't feel like she has the right to push him towards it.  He'll have to give her a bit more to work with.

On a slight / vaguely related note.... I saw the pilot episode for a new show called "Once Upon a Time" .... Raphael Sbarge is in it as one of the characters -- a mild mannered soft spoken character similar to Alenko...... it was eerie, the whole time I listened to him it was like Alenko was on screen... yet he wasn't... I closed my eyes and it almost could have been Alenko talking about something in Mass Effect. ^_^

I felt the same way when I was watching it! :P All I kept thinking about at the part was Kaidan and how his ulter ego is the adorbale Jiminy Cricket! I love Raphael Sbarge's voice, he is very mild mannered in the show and very Kaidan like. I guess he is mild manndered in the show because he is suppost to be Henry's (the little boy's) shrink I think, correct me if I am wrong.
Too bad he wasn't on for very long. :(
