Really, though, is beginning a new romance any different than what happened in ME1?

We don't know for sure, but most likely yes. Romancing the characters in ME1 was going along with getting to know them. Sheps that didn't romance Kaidan talked about mostly the same subjects with him and know everything about him except for little bits of info about Kaidan's parents in mShep's case. Beginning a romance after years of friendship/knowing each other in comparsion to being involved from the begininng will naturally have different dynamic. The may be some lines deliberately made similar to the ones in ME1, after all the romance is suppoused to be between the same characters so they should react similary etc, but I would expect it to be different to ME1 romance nonetheless.

So ME2 ended with my maleShep staring at Kaidan's pic on his desk. Wonder if the relationship will pick up from there in ME3 or if I'll have to start over?

The romance will probably continue as if you have a female Shepard who romanced Kaidan... He'll probably call you "ma'am" but... I wonder if the rest of the crew will recognize you as male?

I love how great ME2 was about continuing the MShepxKaidan romance. If I recall correctly, it was completely gender neutral, almost as if Bioware intentionally allowed us to continue the romance Posted Image I hope if Kaidan isn't officially available for man lovin' they at least do the same in ME3.

Edit: Just remembered there was one instance, the email, where he refers to Shep as a woman. Still, it was pretty nice Posted Image

It just happened to be gender neutral. Most of Kaidan's dialogues in ME1 were gender neutral as well. Even if imported GayShep/Kaidan works in ME3, it will just be hacked FemShep romance continuation. They won't record separate ManShep continuation for something that has to be modded first. Besides, since they're doing actual s/s romance with Kaidan in ME3, why would they work on anything else?

As fun as modded ME GayShep/Kaidan playthroughs are, it could never be really sufficient to me since I know it's just cheating and occasional FemShep references only remind me of that. I'm happy we're getting the real deal in ME3 and quite honestly, I like the idea that GayShep/Kaidan romance will be different and have different dynamic than FemShep/Kaidan one.

Kaidan probably had the least gender neutral romance in Mass Effect.

Leaving the one you're not going to rescue with the bomb is AWFUL. Seeing them watch the Normandy leave...

Yeah, I can't play through Virmire anymore. It's going to be even worse when ME3 comes out and I'll want to have an Ash save. SOB.

I've been thinking about Kaidan being a potential s/s romance in ME3

Personally, I just want him left alone and expanded on as he appears to already be- into women.

However,
I think it's great that those men who've been holding out for him may just have their chance but..

I hope that the game recognizes whether your character is a femshep or maleshep and Kaidan responds accordingly if he does become an s/s romance
.
Playing as a femshep, I want him to be 'into women' through his actions and conversations with me, squadmates, and npcs.... I don't want to be having an intimate moment with him only to see him looking longingly at another male later in the game. It'd be awkward to spend 2 games thinking he was into women only to have a 'btw i'm into men' convo or cutscene.

Same as for those playing as a MaleShep, he should be dedicated to you and your manly ways if he's into men.

I'm nervous that they are going to lose the depth of his character and the relationship Shep has with him in the process of making him an S/S romance option.. Anyone else?

I hope that this is true of any same-sex romance. I actually want the characters to recognize that they are in a same-sex relationship. Bioware locked my gayShep in the closet for five years, and once they let him out, I want him to be vocal. So for me, it doesn't matter if who the same-sex love interests are, but if he or she is bisexual, romancing him or her with a man or woman should be distinct experiences.

Playing as a femshep, I want him to be totally straight in his actions and conversations with me, squadmates, and npcs.... I don't want to be having an intimate moment with him only to see him looking flirtateously at another male later in the game.

Same for those playing as a MaleShep, he should be dedicated to you and your manly ways not flirting with the girls aboard and making comments about big breasts..lol

Oh, whoa, hold on now... If Kaidan is bisexual, I think that you should love him anyway. Does he have to be "totally straight" for you to love him? How would his attraction to males take away from his feeling for you femShep?

I doubt that Kaidan, if revealed to be bisexual, would suddenly become a shameless flirt. Kaidan is an old-fashioned monogamist. He's going to stay devoted to your femShep (if she stayed loyal to him) and if he's bisexual, I'm certain that he's going to keep his eyes on my manShep. Kaidan's not the kind of guy to start flirting with everything that moves. Not every bisexual is a depraved bisexual.

I'm nervous that they are going to lose the depth of his character and the relationship Shep has with him in the process of making him an S/S romance option.. Anyone else?

I'm a little worried that the interactions with a bisexual romance-option will be relatively gender-neutral, like most of Shepard's interactions with Liara.... but as a whole, I have faith in Bioware. The subject of Shepard's gender is bound to come up, and they'll definitely make it clear, at least once, that Kaidan is dating a man or a woman.

Sorry if I offended.. Didn't mean to offend any bisexuals out there.

He's old fashioned and his devotion would be deep rooted - that's why I chose to stay loyal.
I guess what i'm trying to get at is in the first 2 games he's shown as being into women and it'd be awkward to have a 'by the way i'm also into men' conversation or cutscene...atleast for me it'd be an awkward moment.

Hey, no hard feelings. Honest.

I don't think that Kaidan will have a "bi the way" moment with femShep. I really, really doubt he'll say, "Oh, dearest femShep, I have missed you so! Have I ever mentioned that I'd love you just as much if you were male?"

If Kaidan's bisexual in ME3, I'm certain that it'll only be mentioned to male Shepards.

I find Kaidan to be one of those people where sex is not a conquest. If he likes you then you are the only person you'll ever know he like. Otherwise you'd never know if he likes men or women. But I have to agree with Alice_dear, in my FemShep romance with him I want to believe that he is completely straight.

:) March 6th can't get here fast enough... Seriously, my Femshep is crying in her quarters, staring at his picture, and having serious Kaidan withdrawals.

Best way to go about it JUST as long as it's not everyone! Though I would like Jack to be a FemShep option.

You know, conversely.... if Kaidan acts "completely straight" around femShep because he's monogamous and doesn't even want to bring up the fact that he's interested in men, Kaidan should also act "completely gay" around manShep, because he's monogamous and doesn't even want to bring up the fact that he's interested in women!

Think about it... manShep has never seen Kaidan flirt with anyone. He's never heard Kaidan mention a girlfriend. Sure, Kaidan mentions Rahna to manShep, but never that he had feelings for her. That part of Kaidan is only revealed to femShep. Kaidan's feelings for Rahna might not even be considered canon if Shepard is male.

Therefore... If Kaidan acts "completely straight" around femShep and makes it clear that he only has eyes for her, then Kaidan should also act "completely gay" around manShep because Kaidan wants to make it clear that he only has eyes for male Shepard!

When FemShep asks him if he loved Rahna he said that there might have been something there. I'm not worried about what he tells ManShep. FemShep is my canon.

That's absolutely legitimate! What Kaidan talked about with your femShep is definitely canon for your save, but what Kaidan talked about with my manShep (or didn't talk about) is canon for my save. It'll be interesting to see if the two "canons" contradict one another in ME3, but I don't think that anything Kaidan says to my manShep will change anything he says to your femShep, and vis-versa. Let's share the Kaidan-love!

The bolded bit is what concerns me the most. I really, really hope the ME team aren't going to steal the DA teams magical 'make everyone bi' wand :wizard:. I have no issues with bisexual characters i just have issues with everyone suddenly being bisexual. To me it cheapens the conversations when they are gender neutral and gives me less reason to want to play through again. To be honest i'd like there to be straight options, one or two bi options and some gay options. It kinda saddens me that neither ME or DA had a gay character, the closest is always bi. Come on bioware, gimme a delicious guy that my female characters can't have, give me a reason to roll a tasty male character!

In my head Kaidan will always be straight, due to how he talks to femshep. I've never played a manshep in ME1 though, so i have no idea how those convos go. If they do decide to suddenly change his sexuality i'd like them to add a minor patch to ME1 and 2 to change his gender specific lines. I hate it when they ignore the past convos (ala anders). Its just lazy in my book. I hope they don't pick Kaidan to be bi because everyone deemed him to be 'whiny' in the first game, so taaa-daa now hes magically slightly more interesting. It will be interesting to see what happens...
